Northern oblasts
Kyiv
Nine more Berkut officers will be tried in connection with the shootings of protesters on February 20, 2014, on Instytutska Street in Kyiv. The case will be considered in absentia, as the accused have been granted citizenship of the russian federation, where they are currently hiding.
An exhibition dedicated to the tenth anniversary of the Revolution of Dignity was opened in the capital. Personal belongings and stories of people from the Heavenly Hundred are on display. The exhibition will be open from January 17 to February 25 in the Museum of the History of Kyiv.
A streetcar service is planned to be launched from Kyiv to Bucha. This tram line will connect Kyiv, Bucha, Hostomel, and Blystavytsia. It is supposed to reduce the load of minibuses on the route and improve traffic on this section of the road.
Kyiv Oblast
Today it thundered heavily in the Bucha Raion as sappers eliminated explosive objects.
In the Kyiv Oblast, 61 Administrative Services Centers (ASC) provide services to veterans. During 2023, ASCs provided about 7 thousand services to veterans, members of their families, and families of those killed in the war.
Zhytomyr Oblast

In Zviahel, a court passed a verdict on the rector of a church accused of collaboration: the priest was deprived of the right to hold office.
A team of volunteers from Zhytomyr makes customized drones in their spare time after office hours. These drones have three types of radio communication, can carry payloads, work with two cameras, and can be personalized to meet the specific needs of military units.
In Zhytomyr, a waiting list is being prepared to provide housing to IDP families whose members are currently serving in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The list will also include Zhytomyr residents who lost their social housing as a result of shelling by the russian army.
Chernihiv Oblast
The russian military fired mortars at the border territory of the Chernihiv Oblast: the Novhorod-Siversk community came under fire.
In the border areas of the Chernihiv Oblast, they want to restrict traffic on the road where a russian subversive reconnaissance group shot a civilian.
In the Novhorod-Siversk Raion, all the people have left four villages located at the border with russia. These villages are Leonivka, Muravyi, Krasnyi Khutir, and Buchky.
In the Chernihiv Oblast, school fairs and fundraisers were held in Bobrovytsia Secondary School No. 1, which made it possible to raise UAH 211,000 to help the Armed Forces of Ukraine. With this money, they bought a DJI Mavic 3 Thermal quadcopter and medicines for the military at the front line.
Sumy Oblast
During the day, the Russian military shelled the territory of the Sumy Oblast 17 times. A total of 101 explosions were recorded. 7 communities came under fire.
At night, the russian army fired 2 times at the Seredyna-Buda community. Three mortar shell explosions were recorded.
Eastern oblasts
Kharkiv Oblast
In the evening of January 16, russia launched missile attacks on Kharkiv. According to preliminary reports, they used S-300 missiles. 19 residential buildings and 14 cars were damaged. The hospital opposite the building where the hit occurred was also damaged. Two floors of the medical facility caught fire. 14 out of 17 wounded were hospitalized, one person is in serious condition.
In Kharkiv, there are houses where heating and electricity were cut off as a result of russian missile strikes.
Donetsk Oblast
On January 16, the russian occupation forces shelled Avdiivka, Hostre, and Nova Poltavka in the Donetsk Oblast seven times. 12 civilian buildings and facilities were damaged. There were no civilian casualties or injuries in the oblast.
Today, at about 3 p.m., russian troops attacked Malyi Burluk in the Kharkiv Oblast with an aerial bomb, injuring two children. A 10-year-old boy lost his leg and was hospitalized. At the time of the attack, the children were out running in the street.
The russian army once again shelled the frontline thermal power plant and damaged the plant’s equipment. No one was killed or injured. Currently, power engineers are eliminating the consequences of the shelling.
The Ukrainian military repelled 89 attacks by the russian occupation forces in the Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts. Most of the fighting took place in the Avdiivka sector.
Illegal mines in the occupied part of Donbas are causing dehydration in the region. Currently, there are about a thousand illegal mines in the temporarily occupied territories of the Luhansk and Donetsk oblasts. In 2023, 64 people died in illegal mines and diggings in the occupied Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
Kramatorsk and Kramatorsk Raion
The occupiers hit the settlement of Nova Poltava with a Smerch multiple launch rocket system. Two private houses, a kindergarten, and a store were damaged.
Pokrovsk and Pokrovsk Raion
As of January 16, four more people who died during russian missile attacks on Pokrovsk and Rivne in the Donetsk Oblast on January 6 remain unidentified. 104 body fragments have already been analyzed.
In Hostre, russian shells damaged two private homes and commercial buildings.
Bakhmut and Bakhmut Raion
In the settlement of New York in the Donetsk Oblast, the search and rescue operation at the site of the entrance of an apartment building that was destroyed on January 15 was suspended due to massive shelling. Work will resume after the situation stabilizes. There are probably five people under the ruins.
Southern Oblasts
Mykolaiv Oblast
On January 16, in the Mykolaiv Oblast, russian troops shelled the water area of the Ochakiv community with artillery. There were no casualties.
On the night of January 17, the air defense forces shot down one “Shahed 131/136” drone over the region.
Zaporizhzhia Oblast
Last day, the occupiers made 96 attacks on 18 settlements of the Zaporizhzhia Oblast. 11 reports were received about the destruction of residential buildings and infrastructure facilities. There were no casualties.
In Zaporizhzhia, the car was handed over to the soldiers of the Airmobile Brigade as part of the Airborne Assault Troops of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The funds for its purchase were collected by children at the “With Ukraine in the Heart” charity fair. Schoolchildren drew pictures and organized a holiday auction together with benefactors. Art products were purchased by entrepreneurs, officials, and caring citizens.
Odesa Oblast
During the night attack on the Odesa Oblast, the air defense forces shot down 11 drones on the approach to the coast. The vast majority of drones fell into the water, but several apartment buildings, shops, and private cars of citizens in the Primorskyi district of Odesa were damaged by the debris and the blast wave. So far, three wounded are known. 130 people were evacuated from the damaged building. Four cars burned, eight more were damaged by the blast wave. A gas pipe, two balconies, an apartment on the second floor of a 5-story building, a partially destroyed facade of the building were damaged.
UAH 42 million were allocated from the Odesa budget for the restoration of a high-rise building that was hit by a russian missile on the morning of December 29, 2023. Of them, 35 – for recovery and seven – for liquidation of the consequences of the attack.
Before dawn, the russian army attacked the Odesa Oblast with Onyx missiles. The missiles hit agricultural areas and agricultural enterprises in the Odesa and Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi raions. The empty premises for keeping livestock and collecting hay was destroyed. Neither animals nor people were injured.
In Odesa, an employee of a ship repair plant was sentenced to 15 years in prison. He provided russians with data on energy facilities and the port of Izmail. The man also collected information about the work of the ship repair plant, in particular, he observed the dynamics of ships’ calls to the local port and types of cargo.
Kherson Oblast
As a result of russian shelling in the Kherson Oblast, three people were injured. Last year, the russian army shelled the territory of the oblast 75 times, firing over 350 shells from various types of armor.
At night, the russian army shelled Mykhailivka in the Kherson Oblast. The shell hit a house. There were no dead or wounded.
As a result of today’s shelling of Zmiivka, the Beryslav Raion has built the rector’s huts for the St. Michael’s Church.
The russian army hit the Dniprovskyi district of Kherson several times today. The shelling was followed by power outages. As a result of today’s shelling of Kherson, according to previous data, one person died and two more were injured. As a result, at least one fire was burned.
The russian army hit also Beryslav. There were three wounded: a couple and a man. We were all given medical assistance.
As a result of the russian shelling of Romashkove in the Kherson Oblast, an 81-year-old city resident suffered. She received an explosive injury and a contusion. She received medical help at the hospital.
During the battle, the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the temporarily occupied left bank of the Kherson Oblast defeated six assaults by russian troops.
Ukrainian troops on the left bank of the Kherson Oblast have built a ground artillery reconnaissance station SNAR-10 “Leopard”.
Central oblasts
Dnipropetrovsk Oblast
On the night of January 17, three russian drones were shot down by air defense forces in the Dnipro and Synelnykove raions of the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast.
The russian army also shelled Nikopol and Marganets with artillery. There are no dead or injured.
As a result of the morning attack by a kamikaze drone on the Marganets community in the Dnipropetrovsk region. Two people were injured. A 13-year-old boy is in a serious condition, a 19-year-old boy is in a moderate condition.
Kirovohrad Oblast
On the night of January 17, russian troops attacked Ukraine. One drone was shot down over the Kirovohrad Oblast. On January 16, seven houses were damaged in the Kropyvnytskyi Raion due to a missile attack by the russian army.
In the Kirovohrad Oblast, police explosives officers detonated two aeroballistic missiles. Their remains were found in the fields after the air defense was shot down.
Since January 7, ten villages in the Kirovohrad Oblast have been left without electricity due to the freezing of electric wires and, as a result, the fall of poles.
Vinnytsia Oblast
Up to half a hundred children visited the room of therapeutic toys, which was opened a month ago on the basis of the city’s central library for children and youth. It helps children relieve emotional tension and eliminate the effects of stress.
Western oblasts
Rivne Oblast
In the Rivne hospital for war veterans, a department was opened in which people are taught to move around in wheelchairs. Almost 200 means of transportation, including electric steering, were purchased at the joint cost of the regional budget and the World Health Organization.
The director of the Rivne Drama Theater, Volodymyr Petriv, handed over the regional award, which was awarded to him in the field of theatrical art, to the needs of the Azov brigade. The award was presented to him on January 17, it is about 25 thousand hryvnias.
Volyn Oblast
Volunteer children from Rozhyshche sung in order to fundraise for trucks for the military. With the money collected by the “Banderivtsi” children’s collective, they bought two cars, and another one was bought by a local entrepreneur. Each car cost approximately 100 thousand hryvnias. The trucks will go to the 110th territorial defense brigade near Avdiivka and to the 14th separate mechanized brigade in the Kupiansk direction.
Khmelnytskyi Oblast
In one of the Khmelnytskyi hostels, renovation work is being completed. Internally displaced persons are planned to be resettled here. These are mostly elderly people, mothers with children, disabled people. The funds for the repair were allocated by the European Union.
Chernivtsi Oblast
Major Stepan Chyzhevsky, a soldier from Chernivtsi, was awarded the “Steel Cross”. And a resident of the Livyntsi territorial community, senior lieutenant of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine Ivan Chuntul received the Medal of Honor from the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Valery Zaluzhny “For the assistance of the troops”. In addition, Serhiy Deineko from Bukovyna was awarded a branded firearm and the Honorary Badge of the Head of the State Border Service of Ukraine “For Courage in Guarding the State Border”.
Deputy chiefs of the Chernivtsi regional military administration met with the president of the Ukrainian-Austrian Association Alfred Praus. The goal is to establish cooperation, as well as the development and improvement of Bukovyna. In particular, those present discussed investments for the implementation of projects in the fields of renewable energy, agro-industrial complex and logistics.
Territorial communities of Bukovyna received humanitarian aid worth over UAH 1 million from the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). These are play sets for children’s development.
Daria Duzhych, a little girl from Chernivtsi, gave the money she collected for the New Year holidays to buy a drone. Relatives say that the girl dreamed of making her own contribution to victory. The chairman of the Chernivtsi Regional Council personally thanked Daria for his contribution to the support of the army.
Zakarpattia Oblast
Restoring the physical and mental health of defenders is one of the main topics during the meeting of the head of Zakarpattia with representatives of the international Project “Direct Aid for Ukraine”. The head of Oblast Military Administration presented the “4.5.0 Recovery Center” project to international partners and offered to join its implementation. The International Project “Direct Aid for Ukraine” is a team of volunteers from the USA, France, Hungary, Ireland and other countries who unite people and resources to help Ukraine overcome the consequences of the armed aggression of the russian federation.
Matvii Kupar, a seven-year-old resident of the city of Vynohradiv, donated 2,000 hryvnias for the Armed Forces. The guy noted that the purpose of the funds is a contribution to the purchase of a drone or a car for the military.
