9Northern Oblast
Kyiv
Craftswomen from all regions of Ukraine and countries of the world, where there are active Ukrainian communities, together create the Unity Towel [Rushnik Yednannia]. Kyiv embroidered its part and passed the baton to Bukovyna. Unity Towel [Rushnik Yednannia] got its start from Ternopil Oblast. Kyiv became the 22nd participant of the project. The length of the towel is 12.5 m.
Chernihiv Oblast
Yesterday, russian troops attacked 4 communities in the bordering Chernihiv Oblast with mortars and artillery.
This morning, russian troops launched three “Iskander” missile strikes on the center of Chernihiv. As of 5:00 p.m., 16 people are known to have died, 61 people are injured, including three children. The district hospital, the central building of Chernihiv Polytechnic and 16 residential buildings were damaged.
April 18 in Chernihiv was declared a Day of Mourning for those who died as a result of today’s rocket attack.
Sumy Oblast
During the day, the russian military carried out 35 shellings of the Sumy Oblast, 218 explosions were recorded. In particular, russian troops carried out an airstrike on the territory of the Yampil community of Shostka raion. A 29-year-old man was injured.
The army of russia attacked the city of Bilopillya with rocket salvo systems on the night of April 17. 5 explosions were recorded. A man was injured, and private houses were also damaged.
Eastern Oblasts
Kharkiv Oblast
At midnight on April 17, the russians shelled the border Kozacha Lopan. A car trailer and household items were seized. People were not injured.
Late in the evening, the russians hit Borova with an anti-aircraft gun – the courthouse, as well as a pension fund, a library, and private houses were damaged. In Zolochiv, two private houses were damaged as a result of an airstrike.
In the Kharkiv Oblast, the energy industry introduced additional electricity restrictions to eliminate the consequences of the accident, Oblenergo reported. There are hourly shutdown schedules in the region.
In 2024, the russians used more than 300 guided aerial bombs to strike the Kharkiv region. This year, the russian forces shelled the region more than a thousand times: during this time, at least 60 missile strikes, 11 airstrikes and 32 drone strikes were carried out on Kharkiv.
Donetsk Oblast
One person was killed by russian shelling on April 16 in Donetsk Oblast. In total, since the beginning of the invasion, not counting the victims in Mariupol and Volnovakha, the russian military killed 1,923 people, and 4,805 were injured.
On the morning of April 17, the Defense Forces repelled about 60 attacks in Donetsk Oblast, Luhansk Oblast, and Zaporizhzhia.
Kramatorsk and Kramatorsk Raion
The occupation forces attacked Lyman with aerial bombs and FPV drones, damaging houses, a hospital, an administrative building, and a shop. There were no casualties.
Bakhmut and Bakhmut Raion
Yesterday, the occupation forces dropped a cluster bomb on the village of New York. It did not detonate.
One of the fiercest battles is taking place near Chasovyi Yar. The Armed Forces are holding the line, but the russians are still hoping to surround the town.
Southern Oblasts
Mykolaiv Oblast
On the night of April 17, the russian army shelled the city of Ochakiv and the water area of the Ochakiv community. A residential building was damaged. No one was killed or injured.
Zaporizhzhia Oblast
The russian army shelled eight towns and villages in Zaporizhzhia Oblast 216 times during the day on April 16.
Odesa Oblast
In the morning, the russian army attacked Odesa Oblast with ballistic missiles, and the region’s infrastructure was hit. No information on injuries was received.
UNESCO plans to include almost the entire central part of Odesa, approximately 600 hectares, within the borders of Staroportofrankivska Street, in the historic center of Odesa, and the Odesa port will be in the buffer zone of the World Heritage site.
Kherson Oblast
Over the past 24 hours, russian troops fired 10 times at the settlements of the Kherson community. Five people were wounded. Two multi-storey buildings, 11 private houses, a shop, a pharmacy, and a bakery were damaged. The building of a telecommunications company, port infrastructure and a pig farm were also hit.
In the morning, the russian military dropped explosives from a drone on a 29-year-old man in Zmiyivka, Kherson Oblast. He was injured in the arm.
Two more families with children were returned from the temporarily occupied territories of Kherson Oblast to the government-controlled territory. One family has two brothers aged 12 and 16, deprived of parental care, and the other has a three-year-old girl.
Kherson Oblast received 41 pieces of heavy machinery under the United Nations Development Program in Ukraine, with financial support from the Government of Japan and the EU – excavators, loaders, dump trucks and bulldozers. The equipment will be used to clear debris, transport and collect solid waste in communities affected by the explosion of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station by russian troops.
Central Oblasts
Dnipropetrovsk Oblast
On the morning of April 17, russian troops shelled Nikopol with artillery. A 63-year-old woman was wounded.
A gymnasium, 2 private houses, and a power line were damaged.
At night, russian troops sent drones to the town. They also attacked the Myrove community with artillery. Air defense forces destroyed a russian drone in the sky over Pavlohrad raion of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast.
Western Oblasts
Rivne Oblast
On April 17, the fourth evacuation train from Donetsk Oblast arrived in Rivne. It brought 24 IDPs to the Oblast, including five children and two people with disabilities.
