Ukraine in Brief:

The 52nd day of the Ukrainian people’s heroic struggle against the russian military invasion goes on.

Russian occupation troops are most active in the east of Ukraine. There have been no aggressive actions of the enemy in the north of Ukraine.

The enemy focusses its primary efforts on regrouping and enhancing its forces and continues a partial siege of Kharkiv and its artillery shelling.

Enemy’s primary efforts in Izyum are focused on holding the already taken lines and established bounds. The stepping-up of the enemy’s activity towards Izyum and Barvinkove to breach into the rear of Joint Forces units in the area of Slovyansk cannot be excluded.

In Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts, the enemy tries to retain the captured territories. It is focussing its main effort to take under control Popasna and Rubizhne and establish the full control of Mariupol. It further measures to restore battle capacity, restock munition supplies, and continue shelling most areas.

Ten enemy attacks have been repelled, three tanks, one APV, one specialized equipment, two vehicles, three enemy artillery systems have been destroyed and one more APV captured in the 24 hours on the territory of the Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts.

The enemy navy group in the Azov Sea continues executing its assignment of blocking the Mariupol port and providing fire support in the coastal direction.

Russia’s actions in the Mykolayiv Oblast included measures to restore battle capacity, restocking supplies, and engineering installation of positions in the areas of Liubymivka, Petrivka, and Khreshchenivka, and strengthening its frontline positions.

The enemy is expected to continue combat operations to reach the administrative limits of the Kherson Oblast and renew the offensive.

In the previous 24 hours, the Armed Forces of Ukraine’s Air Force Group engaged seven air targets: one plane, one helicopter, three unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and two cruise missiles.

Northern oblasts

Kyiv

The russian army hit the outskirts of Kyiv’s Darnytsia District last night. The missile strike in the wee hours left one person dead and several wounded. The wounded are receiving medical assistance, the City Mayor informs.

Kyiv Oblast

When retreating from the Kyiv Oblast, the invaders primed vehicles with explosives, trip-wired buildings, left unexploded shells, and land mines on the roads. It leads to residents being killed and maimed.

​​Modular houses have been installed in Borodyanka for the State Emergency Service staff and volunteers clearing debris in the township.

Zhytomyr Oblast

An air raid alert went off. As of today, the public transport working hours in Zhytomyr will be extended by one hour. The Ivan Kocherga Zhytomyr Academic Ukrainian Music and Drama Theatre goes back to live. The rehearsals go in the bomb shelter.

Chernihiv Oblast

Curfew has been reduced in the Sosnytisa community. Chernihiv City Mayor says the Three Sisters monument depicting Ukraine, belarus, and russia on the border near the Senkivka border checkpoint must be taken down.

Some of the public transportation routes will be partially reactivated in Chernihiv as the condition of the roads permits it. The city mayor has an idea of making public transportation toll-free, but it needs to be checked whether the measure will be compensated by the government.

Sumy Oblast

Air raid alerts have been regularly on throughout the day.

Eastern oblasts

Kharkiv Oblast

As a result of a missile strike on Kharkiv on April 16th, one person was killed, and 18 were injured.

Donetsk Oblast

Kramatorsk

The situation remains alarming. No destruction due to russian actions was reported in the city. The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) and the Territorial Defense Forces prepare to meet the enemy and continue training. Utilities are working, and cleaning is underway. The evacuation of the population continues.

Volunteers continue to help citizens by coordinating boarding evacuation buses. Humanitarian aid is distributed. The coordinator of the All-Ukrainian Initiative “Active Community” continues to coordinate the work of the humanitarian center. Today, with the help of the World Central Kitchen, more than 100 food kits have been distributed.

Pokrovsk and Pokrovsky Raion

The enemy is preparing to intensify hostilities in the Avdiivka area and shells the Ocheretyn and Selydiv communities. The AFU repel the enemy. The Territorial Defense Forces patrol the community around the clock. The situation in the community is difficult but under control.

The last day was restless. The enemy fired on the settlements of the occupied territories. Private houses, a kindergarten building, and a farm were damaged. Information on the dead and wounded are being clarified. There is a special commission that records the damage caused to residents. Necessary building materials have been prepared to eliminate problematic issues temporarily.

As a result of the shelling in the Pokrovsk community, a fire broke out in a private nonresidential building, which was completely destroyed. A pyrotechnic team worked during the day. One application for explosive devices has been processed.

Public utilities of the Pokrovsk community work in a regular mode. There is water, light, and gas. Another batch of charitable aid for medical institutions has arrived. Among the problematic points is the lack of specialists and fuel.

In the Pokrovsk Raion, two people were injured in russian shelling. Namely, in Avdiivka. One of the wounded is a child.

Bakhmut

On April 14th, shells hit a non-ferrous metal processing plant. Photos are spreading on the Internet, but there is no official information about this.

On April 6th, it was reported that the Head of the Bakhmut community had left the city and handed over control of the town to the Ukrainian military. But this information turned out to be fake. The mayor remains at his workplace. According to him, today, the situation in the city is stable and under control. Evacuation columns have been organized for everyone to get to safer areas. Vulnerable groups and families with children are provided with humanitarian aid: food, hygiene products, and medicines. Issues of providing citizens with vital medicines are being resolved. In Bakhmut, with the joint help of the community members, 50 turnstiles, walkie-talkies, dugout film, scotch tape, work gloves, 100 liters of diesel fuel, and other valuable items were purchased and sent to the front line.

The regional coordinator of AUI “Active Community” helped pack clothes for internally displaced persons (IDPs) at the volunteer headquarters.

Volnovakha

Russian occupation troops launched an airstrike on the village of Velyka Novosilka and a missile strike on the town of Selidovo. The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) are fighting on the outskirts of Kurakhovo. Territorial Defense Forces enter the battle. Local authorities ask everyone to leave the city. The situation in the city is critical, and there is no water and no promises to deliver it. Many residents return home because they do not have housing and money to pay rent.

Luhansk Oblast

The occupiers fired on the Lysychansk refinery, and the fire is currently being extinguished. As a result of the shelling of Lysychansk, one volunteer died, and his wife was taken to the intensive care unit.

Southern oblasts

Zaporizhzhia Oblast

The situation in the Oblast remains tense. During the air alarm in one of the districts of Zaporizhzhia, an incident happened. According to the preliminary reports, air defense systems have taken down two hostile missiles, the debris from which fell in the residential quarter. The explosion blew away windows in the houses. The scale of destruction and quantity of injured are not yet known. According to the preliminary reports, a 29-year-old woman was injured with shattered glass and was taken to the hospital. According to doctors, there is no threat to her life. One private house and a car parked nearby were damaged. Details of the incident are being checked.

Central oblasts

Dnipropetrovsk Oblast

At 3 a.m., the explosions were heart. According to the Head of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast State Administration, an abandoned poultry farm outside the city was destroyed. Next to the poultry house, there was a tank with ammonium. The tank remained intact.

The enemy fired at Kryvyi Rih Raion with “Grad” in the morning. Two residential buildings were destroyed. There are no casualties.

The Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Military Administration delivered product sets to 8 thousand families of IDPs in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast communities. The schools of Dnipro have started receiving applications for the first grades for the 2022-2023 academic year.

In Kamyanske, the farewell ceremony for Serhiy Vorobyov, the deceased participant of the Revolution of Dignity, took place. He was fighting in the volunteer battalion “ODCH Carpathian Sich”.

Dnipro musicians arranged a street concert in the city center. On the European Square, the Music Academy brass band named after Hlinka was performing. They were playing, among others, the Ukrainian revolutionary songs. Musicians wanted to lift the spirits of the city residents in such a way.

Kirovograd Oblast

Kropyvnytskyy

There was a thread of a missile strike. There were several air alarms. At night, there were missile strikes at the infrastructure objects at Oleksandria airfield, and there were dead and injured. The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) are guarding the frontiers of the Oblast and military objects. Territorial Defense Forces are on duty at checkpoints, and police patrol the city. Oleksandria dressmakers are sewing military equipment in one of the volunteer shops, including camping bags, unloading vests, and plate carriers.

The AUI “Active Community” coordinator helped with the unloading of trucks with sand to fill the children’s sandboxes in the city.

Poltava Oblast

Law enforcement officers checked 1260 vehicles and 2221 suspicious persons in the past few days. 500 people joined the volunteer group named “Volunteer”. Representatives of this group help enforce law and order on the streets and train daily to improve their military preparation.

All-Ukrainian clean-up took place in Poltava, supported by structural units, utility companies, and active members of the Poltava community. The fight against extreme prices increases is ongoing, and the local deputies execute raids to check on shops. The regional clinical hospital named after Sklifosovsky received an ambulance car from Belgium. The students and teachers of vocational schools were exempt from mobilization.

The electricity tariffs will not be increased for households that consume under 250 kW per month.

Vinnytsya Oblast

Zhmerynka

There was a prolonged air alarm at might and three more before noon. The situation in the city remains tense. Planes and helicopters flew very low a few times. The Territorial Defense Forces are patrolling the city and checkpoints. Considering that the city is a railway center, citizens are very scared because shelling of the infrastructure objects became very often. The number of IDPs has increased in the last several days, especially from Donetsk Oblast. People are renting houses are staying in schools.

The coordinator of the “Active Community” was on duty at the school, where registration and housing of IDPs ware taking place.

Western oblasts

Lviv Oblast

During the day, there were two air alarms. In the first case, there was a missile strike threat. In the second case, the enemy struck with missiles from Su-35 aircraft, which took off from the airfield of baranovychi in belarus.

Ukrainian Air Defense Forces worked brilliantly. Units of anti-aircraft missile troops Air Command “West” of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) took down on the territory of Lviv Oblast four-winged missiles.

16 children from the East of Ukraine were evacuated to Lviv Oblast. All of them are injured. Among them are those who were at the train station in Kramatorsk. A family with five children got into an accident when fleeing from Donetsk Oblast. Their 6-year-old daughter died. They evacuated children who were from 9 months to 17 years old. They have different injuries, mainly caused by the debris. They were admitted to medical facilities in the oblast and provided medical help.

Another 2045 people who were forced to leave their homes due to fighting actions were settled in the area. From the beginning of the full-scale invasion of russia, Lviv Oblast sheltered 316000 people.

Lviv Oblast can suffice with food despite many IDPs. All communities in Lviv Oblast are actively forming local food reserves. The sources of funding are local budgets and humanitarian help. Thanks to this, Lviv Oblast will be able to provide themselves with food, as reported by the department of agro-industrial development of Lviv Oblast Military Administration.

The lines are observed at the checkpoints of Rava-Ruska-Grebenne, Krakivets-Korchova, and Shehyni-Medica. It looks like the lines are formed by those who want to use the opportunity to import cars to Ukraine according to the simplified procedure during the martial law period.

The mass tree planting initiative named “The Victory Forest” took place in Lviv Oblast, dedicated to the Day of the Environment. This initiative allowed to plant 50000 trees so far, including oaks and pines, on the territory of 10 forest areas. This charity initiative aims to raise UAH 3 000 000 of charitable contributions to purchase ammunition for Ukrainian defenders. The organizers of this initiative are Lviv Oblast Military Administration, Lviv Regional Administration of Forestry and Hunting, NGO “Gobro.Diy” and the global initiative “Ozelenennya Planety”.

Drohobych

There was another farewell ceremony for the deceased soldier Oleksandr Bandrovskyy. Many people came to honor the memory of the hero.

Rivne Oblast

Rivne

The general situation is relatively quiet, and there was an air raid alert during the day. The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) patrol the border with belarus. Territorial Defense Forces patrol the city and keep watch at checkpoints.

The Oblast Defense Council has decided to hold Easter services in the Oblast’s temples. 

Citizens are united, and they provide the volunteer centers with financial and non-financial assistance. The city hosts the second charity football tournament, “Cup of the Armed Forces of Ukraine”, in which 32 teams take part. During the game, money is raised to support the AFU.

Residents of one of the communities prepare festive dishes for the defenders on the front line. Thus, in one of the preschool institutions, they make homemade sausages and plan to bake Easter cakes in the community.

Zdolbuniv

The general situation in the community is quiet. There was one air-raid alert during the last day. The AFU control the borders with belarus. Territorial Defense Forces units keep watching at the checkpoints. Representatives of the local authorities continue to support IDPs actively. Local deputies transferred financial aid to the AFU. Residents continue to volunteer. In particular, they weave camouflage nets. A group of volunteers raises funds, buys the required equipment for the AFU in the Czech Republic, and delivers it to the respective battalions.

The coordinator of the All-Ukrainian Initiative “Active Community” is preparing an event for IDPs to be held next week.

Khmelnytskyi Oblast

Khmelnytskyi

A mural was completed in the city of Khmelnytskyi. It features a girl with a sword in her hands and a stork’s wing. For two weeks, a team of artists and architects from Kyiv decorated the building in the city center

Coordinators of the All-Ukrainian Initiative “Active Community” joined the event. “Oh, the Red Viburnum in the Meadow” – under this slogan, a charitable, educational event for internally displaced children was held in the Educational Space of the “Khmelnitskgaz” Regional Gas Distribution Company. Boys and girls drew pictures and painted Easter gingerbread cookies for Ukraine’s defenders. In return, they received gifts from the gas distribution company. Besides, they got acquainted with the profession of a gas worker and heard from professionals the rules for the safe handling of gas in everyday life.

Kamianets-Podilskyi

On the fortress territory, representatives of the Territorial Defense Forces took an oath to serve the people of Ukraine.

The mayor of the city spoke with the mayor of the French sister city of Hautmont, the residents of which are preparing to send another batch of relief supplies to the citizens of Kamianets. The city authorities are working hard to ensure that as many people abroad as possible learn about the city and the war in Ukraine. Communication is maintained with their colleagues, friends, and volunteers from other cities searching for different options for cooperation: in the humanitarian, informational, and financial areas. New sister cities are being involved. The latter include Brantford (Canada) and Hautmont (France).

As part of the patriotic and artistic action “Time has chosen us”, the folklore group “Sviatovyd” of the exemplary orchestra of the AFU played in the Park of Heroes of Euromaidan.

Slavko Polyatynchuk, All-Ukrainian Initiative “Active Community” coordinator, took part in the spring clean-up in the courtyard of the Kost Solukha Central Library within the framework of implementation of the “Ukrainian Garden” project.

Chernivtsi Oblast (Bukovyna)

No active hostilities are taking place in Bukovyna. The Chernivtsi Oblast Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support appealed to individuals, entrepreneurs, heads of institutions, and organizations to provide military units with military equipment: there is currently a need for vans, minibusses, trucks, ambulances, and tank trucks. In Chernivtsi, employees of the trolleybus department collected more than 200 000 hryvnias for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU): about 400 representatives of the company donated their one-day earnings to the defenders.

An entertaining tour was organized and held for 60 pupils of the social and psychological rehabilitation centers of the Mykolaiv Oblast who were evacuated to Bukovyna. The All-Ukrainian Initiative “Active Community” coordinator is busy solving operational tasks related to the functioning of the social kitchen.

Zakarpattia Oblast

The Uzhhorod Public Library hosted an art therapy session, “What is Ukraine for me?”, where the audience received a long-awaited relaxation using their creative talents.

As part of the eco-marathon, yellow and blue flowers were planted in the city.

Registration of residents in the joint project “IT Cluster Zakarpattia” has started.
