42About us: The Active Community Initiative, launched by activists of the Respublika Institute after the Euromaidan (2014), focused on activating and involving Ukrainians in the decision-making process. The goal for 2025 is to activate and involve at least 1% of citizens in decision-making and promoting reforms in Ukraine on a systematic basis for the well-being of Ukrainian communities. Today we work in 30 communities in Ukraine.
Ukraine in brief:

In the Volyn and Polissya areas, certain units of the Armed Forces of the republic of belarus continue to carry out tasks to cover the belarusian-Ukrainian border in the Brest and Gomel regions. The threat of missile and air strikes from the territory of the republic of belarus continues.
In the northern direction, in order to restrain the actions of the Defense Forces, in the border areas of Bryansk and Kursk regions, the enemy continues to hold units from the Western Military District. The enemy continues to improve the engineering equipment of the positions and conduct air reconnaissance.
In the Kharkiv direction, the enemy’s main efforts are focused on maintaining the occupied borders and shelling the positions of our troops. It struck air strikes on the settlements of Tymofiyivka and Tsapivka. The supply of weapons, military equipment and material resources from the territory of the Russian Federation continues.
Not far from Rubizhne, the enemy tried unsuccessfully to conduct reconnaissance. Conducted remote mining of the area near the village of Cherkasy Tyshky.
In the Slovyansk direction, the enemy fired on the positions of our units near Dibrivne, Vernopilla, Kurulka, Bohorodychne and Dolyna.
The enemy did not take active action in the Lyman direction. It fired at our units in the areas of Donetsk and Mykolayiv. It struck an air strike near Pryshyb and a missile strike in the village of Mayaki.
In the Siverodonetsk direction, the occupiers are carrying out shelling in the areas of the settlements of Lysychansk, Borivske, Bila Hora and Ustynivka. Air strikes were carried out near Bila Hora, Myrna Dolyna and a rocket attack near Verkhnyokamyanka.
In order to correct the fire in the area of Siverodonetsk, the enemy conducts round-the-clock air reconnaissance with the use of UAVs “Orlan-10”. Fighting continues for full control of the city.
Our units repulsed the assault in the area of Toshkivka. The enemy has retreated and is regrouping.
In the Bakhmut direction, the occupiers are firing on the positions of our troops in the areas of the settlements of Mykolaivka, Bilohorivka, Yakovlivka and Pokrovske. Missile strikes were recorded near Zaitseve and New York.
The enemy is storming in the direction of Orikhove – Hirske, fighting continues.
Our defenders successfully repulsed the assault in the directions of Orikhove – Zolote and Pervomaisk – Zolote.
In order to expose the fire positions of the defense forces by assault groups, the invaders are trying to conduct reconnaissance in the direction of Nyrkove – Mykolayivka, the fighting continues. Our soldiers stopped the attempt to advance in the direction of Vrubivka – Mykolayivka with accurate fire. The enemy retreated.
The enemy did not take active action in the Avdiivka, Kurakhiv, Novopavliv and Zaporizhzhia areas. It fired missiles at the settlements of Myrolyubivka and Hrodivka.
In the South Buh direction, the occupiers are focusing their efforts on maintaining their former positions.
In the Mykolayiv direction, the enemy fired on the units of the Defense Forces with barrel and jet artillery in the areas of the settlements of Pravdyne, Posad-Pokrovske and Blahodatne. It conducted air reconnaissance of the positions of our troops with the use of UAVs in the area of the settlement of Tavriyske.
In the Kryvyi Rih direction, the enemy fired artillery and rocket-propelled grenade launchers into the areas of Chervonyi Yar and Kobzartsi.
Northern Oblast
Kyiv
Activist Roman Ratushny said goodbye in Kyiv. He died while performing a combat mission near Izyum.
Kyiv Oblast
The air alarm lasted during the day.
Demining continues in Kyiv region. A total of 43,315 explosive devices have been detected and neutralized since the beginning of the works.
The first modular house in the private sector was installed in Moschun. The house is equipped with the necessary furniture and appliances for a comfortable stay, all the necessary communications are provided. The work was carried out jointly with the Gostomel village military administration and the international organization Rotary. An outpatient clinic of general practice and family medicine was opened in the village of Putrivka, Glevakhiv community. It is home to more than 2,300 people, many elderly people, internally displaced persons.
Zhytomyr Oblast
Representatives of the local Territorial Defense units took part in strengthening the protection of the state border, protection and defense of important objects and communications, ensuring public safety and order in the settlements of Zhytomyr Oblast, guarding the shelters of the population.
People are massively discussing yesterday’s visit to Ukraine of the leaders of Italy and France.
The coordinator of AUI “Active Community” was engaged in volunteer activities and advised active citizens on current issues of community life.
Chernihiv Oblast
Chernihiv “Suspilne” and the “It’s My City” Charitable Foundation are organizing a charity lottery and auction. Two flags 一 Chernihiv and Chernihiv Oblast一 signed by Volodymyr Zelensky became lots. The funds raised will go to the needs of the defenders of Ukraine.
Sumy Oblast
Yesterday, two enemy drones flew into the territory of the Krasnopil community. One of them dropped an explosive device. Another – destroyed the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
In the evening, the russians fired mortars at the community from the territory of russia. 24 attacks were recorded. Subsequently, Russian troops began shelling from the “Grad”. In total – about 80 hits. Damaged the object of civil infrastructure and utility rooms.
Also in the evening the Myropil community suffered. The total number of shell bursts is 40.
Eastern Oblasts
Kharkiv Oblast
At night, russians with MLRS struck at the Kyiv Raion of Kharkiv. The balconies of the 3-storey apartments were on fire in the house. Also hit in one of the municipal enterprises of the city.
Kharkiv residents are returning to the city. Every Friday, the authorities hold trainings for the population. Locals are learning how to behave during the shelling, how to provide medical care.
During the past 24hrs, russian troops have been shelling Tsirkuni, Dergachi, and the Zolochiv community. The village of Fartushne was shelled for the first time at night. The rocket hit the premises of an agricultural enterprise. During the day 3 residents were hospitalized.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine hold the frontiers and gradually move to counter-offensive action. The village of Dmytrivka in the Izium Raion was recently liberated.
Donetsk Oblast
Pokrovsk and Pokrovsk Raion
The occupiers fired on the settlements of Avdiivka and Krasnohorivka, the village of Ocheretyne, and the village of Zhelanne. Avdiyivka suffered the most – russian troops struck five blows at the housing sector and the coke plant. Criminal proceedings have been instituted under Article 438 (violation of the laws or customs of war) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
Soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are defending their native land. Representatives of the local Territorial Defense units are patrolling the Pokrovsky community.
The past day in the Intercession community was restless. One of the settlements of the community came under fire. According to the State Emergency Service, the shooting took place at about 1 am, injuring a 62-year-old man. He was hospitalized in the surgical department of the Pokrovsky Clinical Hospital for Intensive Care. Information on damage and destruction is established.
As a result of the fighting, the power lines were damaged, as a result of which the Karlovy Vary filter station was de-energized at 3 am today and the water supply to the consumers of the Pokrovsky community was cut off. Water supply in full will be carried out after the restoration of electricity supply and technological processes of the Karlovy Vary filtering station.
Mariupol
The city lacks drinking water. People are forced to collect technical water from puddles where pipes break.
The occupiers plunder Mariupol. The russians stole a fountain and skating rink from the Theater Square. Now these objects will decorate the city in russia.
Luhansk Oblast
The situation is difficult, but under control.
The Russians are storming Severodonetsk from several directions. There is significant damage in the surrounding villages, as the russians are destroying everything in their path. Fighting continues in Severodonetsk, and the russians tried unsuccessfully to storm outside the city.
Time and time again, they fire on the area near all the bridges, which are no longer suitable for movement. They opened fire on Synetsky and Pavlohrad near Severodonetsk. The next destruction on “Azot” – now in the territory of transport shop. Twice massively shelled residential neighborhoods near the former Donsoda plant in Lysychansk. 13 houses were destroyed in Hirsky, another 14 – in Vrubivka.
The enemy also fired at Meteolkine, Ustynivka, Mykolayivka, Belogorivka, Voronovo, Zolote and Troitske with artillery and multiple rocket launchers.
Lysychansk under heavy shelling. However, humanitarian goods are being delivered to the city every day and a covert evacuation is being carried out.
The russians launched air strikes in the Sirotyn and Borivsky Raions. Ukrainian soldiers successfully repulsed the assault near Sirotyn and Metolkin. The occupier withdrew to the previously occupied positions. As well as near the Mountain.
Rescuers from Luhansk Oblast delivered 32 tons of water to residents of the region on June 17 and distributed 3 tons of humanitarian aid.
Southern Oblasts
Zaporizhzhia Oblast
In the Zaporizhzhia Oblast, an increase in the number of enemy forces in the direction of Huliaipole is recorded. In the area of Kinsky Rozdory, russian invaders built new fortifications. There are about 34 units of equipment.
In addition, an increase in the number of columns of enemy equipment was recorded during the day. On the highway E-105, Melitopol – Vasylivka and in the opposite direction, during the day there was a systematic movement of a significant number of trucks “KAMAZ” (10-20 units per hour).
A case of desertion of 60 russian servicemen was recorded in Mykhailivka.
During the day, the occupiers fired on the settlements of Temyrivka, Kamyanske, Huliaipilske and Novodanylivka from BM-21 “Grad” multiple rocket launchers. The settlement of Zaliznychne was hit twice a day by B-27 “Uragan” multiple rocket launchers. The settlements of Novopil and Huliaipilske came under tank fire. In addition, the enemy carried out remote mining of POM-2 cluster mines in Novopil.
During the day, Ukrainian defenders in the Zaporizhia direction destroyed a tank, infantry fighting vehicle, armored personnel carrier, multiple rocket launcher BM-21 “Grad”, a car “Ural”, two mortars M120 and MT-12 “Rapira”. Also, one enemy observation post was destroyed.
Kherson Oblast
An explosion took place on Senyavin Street in Kherson. The explosive device, which was attached to a tree, detonated on the car. The driver survived. The russian military announced a terrorist attack by Ukrainian guerrillas, as reported by “Suslpilne” media correspondents.
Mykolaiv Oblast
Volodymyr Zelenskyi arrived to Mykolaiv Oblast. A meeting was held to raise important issues of the region. Also the President visited ambulance hospital in Mykolaiv and talked to doctors.

The executive committee of the Mykolaiv City Council made the decision on a ban on use of the russian language in establishments of general secondary education since September 1, 2022.
During the day on June 17 the russian troops fired at the settlements of the Mykolaiv Oblast. Buildings in communities of Bashtanka and Mykolaiv Raions were damaged. As a result of attacks in Mykolaiv and the oblast there were six fires.
Odesa Oblast
Two enemy missiles were shot down over Odesa Oblast at night.
The danger of millile strikes remains. The Armed Forces of Ukraine conduct training. The air defense works. Representatives of the local Territorial Defense unit equip fortifications to defend the oblast.
People are quite united and active, they volunteer and take part in charity events.
In the Odessa Oblast, counterintelligence officers of the Security Service of Ukraine detained a russian agent who was correcting missile strikes on the bridge across the Dniester estuary.
Along the coast, the detection of sea mines, carried away by storm and drifting to shore, is possible, according to the operational command “South”.
The coordinator of the AUI “Active Community” provided advice to internally displaced persons on employment.
Central Oblasts
Dnipropetrovsk Oblast
A volunteer hub for young people from the Luhansk Oblast operates in Dnipro.
Kirovohrad Oblast
An air alert was sounded – there was a threat of a missile strike.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine guarded the oblast’s borders and military facilities. The fighters of local Territorial Defense unit conducted tactical exercises. The situation in the community was calm and under control.
For the past three months, blasting workers from the Kirovohrad Oblast have been clearing the Kyiv Oblast of mines and shells left over from fighting and liberating the occupied territories from the russian forces. Explosives technicians inspected the former locations of units of the russian armed forces. They found mines and homemade devices based on hand grenades and neutralized them. Ammunition from damaged military equipment that did not explode was also neutralized. In total, it is 7.5 thousand explosive devices.
The coordinator of the AUI “Active Community” worked at the Humanitarian Center named after St. Nicholas the Wonderworker. He assisted the IDPs in obtaining food kits and informed them about the main events that can be attended by adults and children during the weekend in Kropyvnytskyi and the Oblast.
Vinnytsia Oblast
Khmilnyk and Khmilnyk Raion
Air defense notices were heard all day. The past day in Khmilnyk community was relatively calm.
Another consignment of nets for the Armed Forces of Ukraine was sent from the Kozyatyn Railway School, which is located in the Khmilnyk Raion. Since 2014, the school has been cooperating with the public organization “Public Initiatives of Kozyatyn Region”. The organization provides support to servicemen in the combat zone.
The student and pedagogical staff of the school provides volunteer assistance in weaving camouflage nets for military equipment. In total, more than 250 camouflage nets have been woven together.
Village Day was celebrated in Kashperivka (Kozyatyn community, Khmilnyk Raion). This year it was held in a slightly different format, as both football competitions and the concert program were charitable. Not only spectators, but also participants of both football competitions and the concert, at the call of the heart joined in raising funds for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Western oblasts
Ivano-Frankivsk oblast
In general, the situation in the oblast is under control. Police officers are operating in an intensified mode. As in all oblasts of Ukraine, fuel shortage is observed. This week the fare on the transportation routes operated by private carriers became more expensive and reached 10 hryvnias. The fare in public transportation has not changed.
Social soup kitchens continue their work.
The mayor of Ivano-Frankivsk published information that as of June 16, the following amount of money was transferred to the Charitable Foundation “My City of Ivano-Frankivsk”: 5 786 958 hryvnias, 7 246 euros, 4 500 dollars, 5 500 Polish zlotys and 100 pounds. Upon request from the military, these funds are allocated to purchase necessary things: from consumables to ammunition and thermal imagers.
Rivne oblast
The general situation is relatively calm, there were no air alarms.
Soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine patrol the border with Belarus. Representatives of the Territory Defense are patrolling and on duty at checkpoints.
52 825 people is the number of internally displaced people currently living in Rivne oblast.
An abandoned school in Rivne Oblast provides housing for internally displaced persons. Renovation of the former school building was started at the expense of donors. It is planned to provide housing for those who plan to stay in the Rivne oblast permanently.
The coordinators of the AUI “Active Community” were preparing for the next event and communicated with internally displaced citizens.
Khmelnytskyi oblast
Khmelnytskyi
Mayor Oleksandr Simchyshyn said that local authorities would terminate land lease agreements with religious organizations which subordinate to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate, and are located on the territory of Khmelnytskyi Community. Areas that have been permanently used by such churches will be returned to the community.
In the settlement of Stara Sinyava, a street and a lane were named in honor of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhnyy. The corresponding decision was made by the Starosinyavka village council. Earlier, the locations were named after the Soviet military leader and hater of Ukraine Georgiy Zhukov.
As of today, the use of Russian language products in public places is banned in Khmelnytsky. Deputies voted for this decision on June 17th, at the session of the city council. It concerns public places: parks, squares, streets, transport, entertainment establishments, etc. Compliance with the ban will be monitored by the volunteer police and law enforcement officers. The private sphere remains intact.
In Khmelnytsky, a municipal enterprise “Educational and Training Center of the Khmelnytsky City Territorial Community” was established. Its task is to provide constant methodological assistance to teachers on the subject “Defense of the Motherland”. In addition, it is planned to provide models of submachine guns, pistols, stands, and engineering equipment to all schools in the Khmelnytsky community. The center will also be used to train volunteer fighters, public and budget sphere workers and all civilians.
Chernivtsi oblast
The situation in Bukovyna is calm and controlled, and the passage of transportation is safe.
Since the beginning of the full-scale war, almost 50 women from the oblast have expressed a desire to serve in the army. The vast majority of them serve in the military units of Bukovina, mainly in military specialties related to medicine, finance, and communications.
Chernivtsi oblast for the first time took part in a webinar “Ukraine: regional and local initiatives for support and exchange”, which was initiated by the Assembly of European Regions. Bukovyna applied for membership in the Assembly on May 5th, and now the association has invited representatives of the oblast to participate in the webinar. In her speech, the Deputy Head of the Regional Military Administration Iryna Isopenko thanked for the support which Ukraine receives from European partners, and told European colleagues about the assistance Chernivtsi region receives from the EU partner regions, the activities of international organizations, the Humanitarian Staff and about support for internally displaced persons.
In Khotyn, a large-scale project to create a hostel for IDPs has begun. It will be arranged on the basis of a municipal institution. Grants were co-financed for the works. The hostel will have a total of about 70 beds, as well as a kitchen, dining room and bathrooms.
