Northern oblasts
Kyiv
Today, the capital came under another massive missile attack by russia. The enemy launched almost 60 missiles, a dozen “Daggers”, and drones at Kyiv. Seven fires broke out in 6 districts of Kyiv.
In the Solomianskyi district of Kyiv, fires broke out in two multi-story residential buildings. As of 5 p.m., 49 victims were listed, 43 of them hospitalized, and two Kyiv residents died. More than 130 people were evacuated from the high-rise building in the Solomianskyi district. About 20 were unblocked by rescuers. A heating and assistance center for residents of the damaged buildings was set up in a school in the Solomianskyi district. The Red Cross Ukraine and the State Emergency Service are working at the site.
Fires in two car dealerships were extinguished in the Podilskyi district. 29 cars were completely burned down, a gas pipe and a main water supply pipeline were damaged, and a fire broke out on the territory of the market.
Minor fires in two unfinished buildings were put out in the Pecherskyi district.
The consequences of the russian attack in the Darnytskyi district of Kyiv: debris damaged several private houses in Bortnychi. According to preliminary information, there were no casualties.
Not only people but also animals are being rescued in Kyiv after the attack.
As of 5 p.m., electricity supply was restored to 250,000 subscribers in Kyiv who were cut off due to the morning shelling by the russian army.
The SBU dismantled the webcams that broadcast the work of air defense and the locations of Kyiv’s critical infrastructure during the January 2 air attack. These are two robotic online surveillance cameras hacked by russian intelligence services to spy on the Defense Forces in the capital.
Kyiv Oblast
At night, the enemy attacked the Kyiv Oblast with drones. The air defense forces were actively working. In the morning, the terrorists continued a massive missile attack. As a result, the Obukhiv, Boryspil, Bucha, and Fastiv raions were affected. According to preliminary information, two people were killed and 16 wounded, including a child. A number of private houses and more than 60 cars were damaged.
In Vyshneve, 11 apartment buildings and 16 private houses are known to be damaged. More than 700 residents are being provided with the necessary assistance. Places for resettlement of 1,000 people have been prepared. The falling debris caused a fire in an unfinished church, and damaged several businesses, warehouses and one of the regional medical facilities.
A number of communities in the Brovary, Bucha, Fastiv, and Vyshhorod raions experienced problems with power supply.
Today, on January 2, 2024, a baby was born in the shelter of a maternity ward in Boyarka during a missile attack. The newborn boy weighed 3,500 grams.
Zhytomyr Oblast
In Zhytomyr, volunteers of the “Poliski Broniky” initiative have manufactured and delivered 1,300 bulletproof vests to the military at the front for free over the past year and a half.
Two kamikaze drones for the Armed Forces of Ukraine were purchased by representatives of the Union of Afghan War Veterans of the Olevsk Raion. They raised the money for the purchase themselves. Soon the drones will be transferred to the front.
More than 100 Zhytomyr residents took part in the AfterOlivier Run 2024 charity race. During the run, they donated to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Chernihiv Oblast
On January 1, russian troops shelled the border areas of the Chernihiv Oblast with various types of artillery. Explosions thundered in the Semenivka and Horodnia communities.
Almost 15 thousand explosions, more than 300 missiles and aerial bombs, almost eight thousand mortar shelling attacks – this is the general picture of russian bombardments of the Chernihiv Oblast in 2023. This calculation was made by the Department of Civil Protection and Defense Work of the Chernihiv Oblast Military Administration.
Sumy Oblast
At night and in the morning, the russian army carried out seven shelling attacks on the border territories and settlements of the Sumy Oblast. 51 explosions were recorded. Four communities came under shelling.
On January 1, the State Border Guard Service shot down two russian Shahed drones in the Sumy Oblast.
Due to hostilities in the Sumy Oblast, there is no electricity in 58 settlements, of which 13 are partially blacked out. 2,694 consumers have been de-energized.
Eastern regions
Kharkiv Oblast
53 people were injured in the morning Russian attack on Kharkiv on January 2. Of these, six were children. Two adults are in extremely serious condition. One person was killed.
As of 5 p.m., the number of houses damaged as a result of the morning shelling of Kharkiv is 55, more than 2,000 windows in apartments and 685 in public areas were smashed. Three roofs were also damaged. Heating was restored in three out of eight affected buildings. Three houses remain without electricity. Some have no gas supply.
The police will guard the damaged houses in the center of Kharkiv around the clock to prevent looting.
Fragments of Iskander-M missiles were found at the sites of two hits in the Shevchenkivskyi district of Kharkiv.
Donetsk Oblast
Russian troops shelled settlements of the Donetsk Oblast 26 times. They attacked with guided aerial bombs, Kh-69 missiles, fired with Grad multiple launch rocket systems, anti-aircraft guns and artillery. 17 residential buildings, an agricultural firm, a dispensary and a power line were destroyed and damaged by shelling.
On the first day of the year, three people were killed and three more residents were injured due to the russian shelling in the Donetsk Oblast.
Pokrovsk and Pokrovsk Raion
On the morning of January 2, russian troops shelled the hospital in Avdiivka. There were no dead or injured among the doctors. And on January 1, the enemy carried out 16 airstrikes on the city, two women were injured. One of them was evacuated to the Myrnohrad hospital in serious condition. The other injured person is in Avdiivka hospital.
One person was injured due to shelling in Krasnohorivka, the Mariinka community.
Bakhmut and Bakhmut Raion
Two people died as a result of shelling in the Chasovyi Yar community. The russian army hit private houses with artillery.
Luhansk Oblast
The doctors of the Rubizhne city hospital, which resumed work after the occupation of the city in Kharkiv, began to provide rehabilitation services to the soldiers. Doctors of the branch also visit the soldiers in the front-line area.
Southern Oblasts
Mykolaiv Oblast
The russian army attacked the Mykolaiv Oblast with kamikaze drones during the day. A fire broke out due to the falling debris. Also, two communities came under artillery fire.
On January 2, 2024, troops of the Kherson anti-aircraft missile brigade shot down two Kalibr cruise missiles in the Mykolaiv Oblast.
Zaporizhzhia Oblast
The occupiers shelled 25 settlements of the Zaporizhzhia Oblast, and 153 hits were recorded. 16 reports were received about the destruction of residential buildings and infrastructure facilities. There were no casualties.
Odesa Oblast
The russian army took a submarine to the Black Sea instead of one of the frigates. Currently, there are two surface and one underwater missile carriers with a total reserve of about 20 Kalibr missiles on combat duty.
One of the injured as a result of the russian attack on Odesa on New Year’s Eve is in serious condition in the city hospital. A 32-year-old woman has burns on 30% of her body surface.
Kherson Oblast
The russian army shelled the Kherson Oblast 87 times over the past day. A critical infrastructure facility in Kherson was hit. One person died, four were injured.
Last day, the russian military attacked the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the left bank of the Kherson Oblast 18 times, but suffered losses and returned to their positions.
At night, air defense units shot down one Shahed drone over the Kherson Oblast.
Today, the russian army shelled the settlement of Bilozerka. A woman was injured. As a result of the attack, the electricity supply in the settlement was cut off.
Today, the russian army dropped four guided aerial bombs on populated areas of the Beryslav Raion. Beryslav was attacked by drones. They hit one of the administrative buildings. There were no casualties or injuries. Also during the day, the russian military shelled Kherson. One of the industrial enterprises was attacked, and a fire broke out.
Soldiers of the Kherson anti-aircraft missile brigade destroyed two Kh-101/Kh-555/Kh-5 cruise missiles and three russian Shahed drones.
In the Kherson Oblast, during the week, explosives deminers demined almost 310 hectares of territory and more than seven kilometers of power lines. 159 explosive objects were also neutralized.
Central Oblast
Dnipropetrovsk Oblast
Yesterday evening, two Shahed drones were shot down by the Ukrainian military over the Kryvyi Rih Raion. Debris of downed drones damaged power lines. Several hundred families were left without electricity. Today, the energy industry has restored everything.
On the night of January 2, air defense forces shot down eight kamikaze drones in the sky over the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast.
At night, russian troops shelled Nikopol with heavy artillery. There were no casualties or injuries.
830 windows were broken as a result of an attack on a maternity hospital in Dnipro on December 29. The walls and equipment in the wards were also damaged. About half a hundred employees of the maternity hospital and their relatives help clean up after the missile attack.
Two people were injured as a result of shelling in Nikopol in the afternoon of January 2. A 50-year-old man is hospitalized in a moderate condition. Another wounded man, 59 years old, will be treated on an outpatient basis. Private and industrial enterprises, a kindergarten, park infrastructure, and a trade pavilion were damaged.
Three high-rise buildings and 16 private houses were also damaged.
Kirovohrad Oblast
In the Kirovohrad Oblast, an air defense was on duty. In the Kropyvnytskyi Raion, the fragments of the missile hit the yard of one of the houses, creating a four-meter-wide chasm. The walls of the neighboring house were damaged by debris. There were no casualties.
A city basketball competition was held in Oleksandria. The participants of the competition were physical education teachers from various schools of the city. As a result, it was possible to collect more than 34,000 hryvnias to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine. They were sent to the account of the “Turbota” charity fund, which announced a collection of 1,000,000 hryvnias for drones for fighters from Oleksandria.
Cherkasy Oblast
Today, during a massive russian attack in the Cherkasy Oblast, two missiles and seven “Shahed”UAVs were shot down. Previously, there was no destruction, the survey of the territory is ongoing.
Today, the team of the Cherkasy regional organization of the Red Cross Society of Ukraine issued 70 kits to residents whose houses were damaged or destroyed as a result of the russian missile attack the day before. They consist of a sleeping set, dishes and a pack of Coca-Cola.
Poltava Oblast
Last year, the employers of the Poltava Oblast received more than UAH 10 million in compensation from the state for employing internally displaced persons. 318 business entities employed 809 displaced persons.
With the financial support of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, in 2024 complex repair work is planned in three educational institutions, which will make it possible to equip 900 beds for displaced persons. Also within the framework of the partnership, accommodation in the Velyki Budyshcha, Velyka Rublivka, Hoholeve, Novoselivka and Pyriatyn communities will be renovated.
Vinnytsia Oblast
The deceased junior lieutenant from Vinnytsia Valentyn Bahniuk was awarded the Order of Courage, III degree. The 21-year-old defender defended Ukraine from the first days of the full-scale invasion.

People from five villages of the Dzvyniach community in the Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast have been caroling and collecting money for fellow soldiers for more than a week. As of January 2, they collected almost 1 million hryvnias. The collected money will be directed not only to the needs of military personnel, but also to the purchase of drones.
Ternopil Oblast
In Ternopil, volunteers of the “Paratrooper-Cossack Swarm” handed over an ambulance, an anti-drone gun and a quad bike to the military.
Residents of Chortkiv, whose property was damaged by missile attacks in June 2022, will receive compensation from the state budget. Its total amount is one million 585 thousand hryvnias.
The 115th anniversary of the birth of Stepan Bandera was celebrated in Ternopil. This year in the oblast is proposed to be declared the year of the Bandera family. Such a proposal was registered by the deputies of the oblast council.
Zakarpattia Oblast
The First Deputy Chairman of the zakarpattia Oblast Council together with volunteers delivered 12 cars for various units on the front line. Among them are the legendary 93rd Brigade “Kholodny Yar”, Zakarpattia 128th Mountain and Stream Brigade and 67th Brigade “Right Sector”.
People’s amateur vocal ensemble “Strazhanka” of the Solomonovo Village House of Culture collected 10,000 hryvnias, which were donated to the “Strength of the Future of Ukraine” charity organization.
