Kyiv
A new name appeared on the Alley of Courage in Kyiv – Charles Michel, the President of the European Council. The Alley of Courage on Constitution Square in Kyiv was opened on the initiative of the President on the occasion of the 31st anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence. It features the names of political leaders and other representatives of partner countries who have been helping Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the country by the russian federation.
Kyiv ranked first in Ukraine in terms of the number of streets renamed during the de-russification process. Transparency International Ukraine published the results of the capital in comparison with other cities.
Kyiv Oblast
Today, in the Bucha Raion, units of the State Emergency Service took care of eliminating explosive ordnance.
A generator and a mobile installation for its transportation arrived from the Alytus District of Lithuania, which has twin relations with the Irpin community. According to Irpin Mayor, Oleksandr Markushyn, this equipment will be used to quickly connect the community’s critical infrastructure during power outages.
Irpin has received €500,000 from its sister city Cascais to complete the construction and restoration of the “Vinochok” kindergarten damaged as a result of the hostilities.

Zhytomyr Oblast
Mykola Petrenko, a resident of the Korosten community, was killed in action fighting for Ukraine.
Today, on January 20, the country honors the defenders of the Donetsk airport who defended the strategic facility from russian terrorists for 242 days in 2014-15. “We were ready to face the enemy coming literally from everywhere” – a cyborg from the Zhytomyr 95th Brigade described how he and his comrades defended the Donetsk airport. It was the enemy who called them cyborgs for their invincibility and resilience, and that’s how they went down in the history of modern Ukraine. And they are still in the ranks, still fighting for the future of Ukraine. The man is currently fighting in the anti-tank unit of the 95th Brigade. His service in the unit began with the first wave of mobilization in 2014 and continues to this day. As the paratrooper says, he wants to celebrate the victory.
Volodymyr Shyrma, Deputy Chairman of the Oblast Council, presented the Zhytomyr Oblast Council’s “Honor and Glory of the Zhytomyr Oblast” award to Volodymyr Durava, a volunteer and CEO of the Polish-Ukrainian ITM Industry Group, for his significant contribution to the development of the educational and scientific sectors of the oblast, popularization of information technologies in the oblast, active charity activity, and high civic awareness.
A working meeting with the Representative Office of the Norwegian Refugee Council in Ukraine was held in Zhytomyr. During the meeting, a wide range of issues were discussed, including the restoration of educational institutions, the provision of assistance with materials for the restoration of private houses by providing vouchers for the purpose of restoring damaged housing, as well as the state of affairs regarding the provision of comprehensive assistance to internally displaced persons in the oblast.
Chernihiv Oblast
Today, Nizhyn and Pryluky said goodbye to Valeriy Kachan and Ihor Nahornyi, defenders of Ukraine who were killed in battle with the russians.
Sumy Oblast
Last night, russian military shelled the Krasnopillia community with mortars, and also dropped explosives from a drone on the border areas of the oblast.
The UAIM Charitable Foundation provided the Sumy Oblast with 215 generators of various capacities: 73 generators for health care facilities, and 142 for educational institutions, “Points of Invincibility”, and administrative facilities.
Eastern oblasts
Kharkiv Oblast
Yesterday, the enemy continued to attack the border settlements of the oblast. The occupiers shelled Tymofiivka, Veterynarne, Strilecha, Starytsia, Vovchansk, Vilcha, Dvorichna, Kupiansk, and other localities with mortars, artillery and multiple rocket launchers.
About 20 enemy artillery hits were recorded in Tymofiivka, Bohodukhiv Raion. Four private houses were damaged.
In Vovchansk, Chuhuiv Raion, two nine-story buildings came under shelling: the windows and roof were smashed. Besides, 10 private houses, garages, and outbuildings were damaged.
In the Kupiansk Raion, Kupiansk and Dvorichna were shelled. 5 private houses, outbuildings and cars were damaged. The occupiers also fired at the premises of the boarding school with S-300 missile systems.
This week, the Kharkiv Oblast Humanitarian Center received 17 truckloads of international aid from the United Nations. Part of it has already been distributed to the de-occupied territories. Mattresses, bed linen, solar lamps, tableware, hygiene products, and other household items will be delivered to residents of communities where the humanitarian situation is currently the most difficult.
Donetsk Oblast
In the Donetsk sector, the Kurakhove community was shelled throughout the day: a house in Kurakhove was damaged, and also some hits were recorded in Hirnyk and neighboring villages. In the morning, Avdiivka survived two massive artillery attacks, no one was injured.
In the Horlivka sector, one person was killed in Bakhmut and another one was wounded in Ivanivske of the Bakhmut community. Chasiv Yar was shelled at night: four houses and a kindergarten were damaged. The situation in the Soledar community is tense: Rozdolivka, Fedorivka, Vasiukivka, Paraskoviivka, and the outskirts of Soledar are under fire.
In the Lysychansk sector, two people were killed in Drobysheve. Also in this community, 4 houses were damaged in Zakitne, and Lyman, Torske, and Zarichne were shelled. A number of hits thundered in Siversk, fortunately there were no casualties.
Over the past day, the units of the Defense Forces repelled the attacks of the occupiers in the areas of the settlements of Novoselivka and Bilohorivka in the Luhansk Oblast; Verkhniokamianske, Krasnopolivka, Soledar, Krasna Hora, Paraskoviivka, Bakhmut, Ivanivske, Dyliivka, Vodiane, Maryinka, Pobeda, and Novosilka in the Donetsk Oblast, and Mala Tokmachka and Stepove in the Zaporizhzhia Oblast.
On January 19, the russians killed 4 civilians of the Donetsk Oblast: 2 in Drobysheve, 1 in Bakhmut, and 1 in Maksymilianivka. 3 more people in the oblast were wounded.
Currently, it is impossible to establish the exact number of victims in Mariupol and Volnovakha.
Pokrovsk and Pokrovsk Raion
Russian troops directed three S-300 missiles at the Pokrovsk Raion. Two of them hit the residential sector of the city of Bilozerske. As a result, 6 multi-story buildings and a school were destroyed. One missile hit the city of Selydove, 2 private homes were damaged. According to preliminary information, civilians were not injured.
Avdiivka withstood the greatest number of shellings – seventeen. The russians destroyed the city with “Grad” multiple launch rocket systems and artillery. There was no information on casualties and damage.
In Myirnograd community (Pokrovsk Raion) is in mourning: Illia Holovin died in the battle for the Motherland. This tragic news shook the community. Myrnograd City Military Administration, in deep sorrow, expresses the condolences to the family, relatives and friends of the deceased.
The hospital of the Novohrodivka community (Pokrovsk Raion) received medical aspirators from an American charitable organization.
The Hrodivka community (Pokrovsk Raion) continues to live in difficult wartime conditions.
Bakhmut and Bakhmut Raion
The enemy is concentrating its main efforts on conducting an offensive in the Bakhmut and Avdiivka directions.
In the Bakhmut direction, the settlements of Verkhnokamianske, Vyimka, Bilohorivka, Soledar, Krasna Hora, Bakhmut, Klishchiivka, Bila Hora, Kurdyumivka and Maiorsk (Donetsk Oblast) were damaged by shelling.
Volnovakha and Volnovakha Raion
In the Volnovakha direction, Vuhledar and Bohoiavlenka (Vuhledar community) and Vesele (Komar community) were under enemy fire. There were no casualties.
Kramatorsk and Kramatorsk Raion
Russia continues to shell civilian objects. Today, they hit a kindergarten, a school and a preventive clinic. 8 apartment buildings were damaged. It is reported beforehand that there were no casualties. Communal services promptly eliminate the consequences of shelling. Special equipment is involved.
Mariupol
Mariupol pastor and head of the “Pilgrim” charitable foundation, Gennadiy Mokhnenko, presented the head of the Catholic Church Pope Francis with a painting depicting the Mariupol Drama Theater, graves and the inscription “Deti” [“Children”, rus.]. It was drawn by Oleksandra Alifirenka. The picture reminds of the terrible crime of the russians, who dropped bombs on the drama theater, where thousands of Mariupol civilians were hiding. Hundreds of people died.
The mayor of Mariupol, Vadym Boichenko, presented a car to the heroic special purpose unit. It will help the military to carry out their assigned tasks.
Luhansk Oblast
The policemen of the Luhansk Oblast delivered chainsaws, small pots and other such necessary household items to servicemen performing combat missions near Nevske.
Southern Oblasts
Mykolaiv Oblast
Yesterday, the enemy carried out artillery strikes on the water area and coastal strip of the Ochakiv community. There are no casualties.
In Mykolaiv, Pervomaisk, Voznesensk and Bashtanka raions, the day and night passed relatively calmly.
Kherson
On the night of January 20, russian troops attacked the city of Kakhovka. In one of the districts, houses were destroyed. The invaders also hit near the city stadium. There were no casualties or injuries, the Kakhovka community authorities reports.
Russian troops shelled nine settlements of Beryslav, Novooleksandrivka, Mylove, Novoraisk and Tiahinka communities in a day. In Havrylivka, a person was injured as a result of shelling. Volodymyr Litvinov, head of Beryslav Raion Military Administration, reported this.
In the Kherson direction, the russian army is on the defensive and continues to fire at peaceful settlements. Last day, the occupiers shelled Kachkarivka, Respublikanets, Tiahinka, Ivanivka, Novotiahinka, Tokarivka, Ingulets, Kherson, Blahovishchenske and Rozlyv.
The russian army hit a high-rise building in the center of Kherson. Houses in the cottage town were destroyed, power lines and gas pipelines were damaged, and there was a fire.
In Kherson, as a result of shelling by russian troops, dozens of apartments and private houses were damaged and destroyed in the city center, Korabel, KhBK [Kherson cotton plant], Zhytloselyshche, Antonivtsi and Komyshany microdistricts. This is reported by the police.
Over the past day, police officers documented 31 violations of the laws and customs of war by the russian military.
In Kherson, one of the cafes prepare hot lunches for the city’s residents every day. Cafe workers started doing this at the beginning of russia full-scale invasion of Ukraine. They plan to feed Kherson residents for free as long as people need help.
During the occupation of the city, Andrii Andriushchenko from Kherson with the pseudonym [“Painter”] went out every morning with his friends and wrote with paint on fences and buildings the message: “Kherson is Ukraine”, “The Armed Forces of Ukraine are nearby”. Andrii and his comrades were arrested by the russian military. The man was in captivity for 47 days, he was accused of “calling for extremism”.
Central Oblasts
Dnipropetrovsk Oblast
48-year-old senior sergeant Oleksandr Podzigun from Kamianske, 51-year-old senior soldier Mykola Saklakovsky from the Kamianske Raion died fighting for Ukraine. Three ultras of the “Kryvbas” football club died near Bakhmut. They are Denys Dronik, Anton Sarnatskyi and Vladyslav Riabukha. 36-year-old Mykhailo Avramenko from Kryvyi Rih was also killed by russian shelling. Eternal glory to the Heroes!
Residents of the oblast created a petition to the President of Ukraine with a request to award the title of Hero of Ukraine posthumously to the graduate of the Department of Political Science of the Dnipro National University, military serviceman Vladyslav Skvortsov. The platoon commander died in the battles for Izium in 2022.
Volodymyr Yezerskyi, the legendary Ukrainian football player, the head coach of the Ukrainian U-16 national football team, the former captain of FC Dnipro and Ruslan Rotany’s assistant at FC Oleksandria, is fighting the russian invaders in Bakhmut. He is currently serving in the Armed Forces under contract.
The Security Service of Ukraine exposed a group of agents of russian intelligence that coordinated missile strikes on Dnipro. During the operation, seven russian agents were detained. According to available data, they gave the russians the coordinates of critical infrastructure facilities, including energy-generating enterprises.
On January 20, near the Dnipropetrovsk regional administration, a flash mob dedicated to the Day of the Unity of Ukraine took place. The participants of the event laid out a symbolic map of Ukraine from blue and yellow elements. And then, holding hands, they showed that the Left Bank and the Right Bank of our country are one. Flash mob is the idea of teachers and students of the Dnipropetrovsk College of Arts and Culture.
Artem Vashkevich, a well-known designer from Kryvyi Rih, designed a sleeve patch for machine gunners from the legendary 93rd Separate Mechanized Brigade “Kholodny Yar”. The patch has already been produced and sent to the command of the combat unit for consideration. Artem Vashkevich said that during the production of the chevron he relied on historical events.
564 entrepreneurs of the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast employed almost 2,500 immigrants.
Kirovohrad Oblast
There was a threat of a missile strike on populated areas and critical infrastructure facilities in the Kirovohrad Oblast.
The Kirovohrad Oblast said goodbye to its defenders. Yevgeniy Lapshin, who died in the war with the russian invaders, was put to rest in Kpopyvnytskyi. Senior soldier Yevheniy Lapshin defended the Kherson region from the russian usurpers. On January 15, near the village of Kostyrka of the Beryslav Raion, during a combat mission, a 53-year-old soldier received extremely severe, life-threatening injuries.
Anatoliy Kozel was put to rest in Haivoron of the Holovanivsk Raion. A senior soldier died on January 7, as a result of enemy fire in the area of the Soledar settlement in the Donetsk Oblast. He was a driver-mechanic of the 2nd self-propelled artillery platoon of the 3rd self-propelled artillery battery of the 2nd self-propelled artillery division.
At the Administrative Service Center in Kropyvnytskyi, employees of the Main Department of the State Emergency Service in the oblast met internally displaced persons. The event was held at the request of the management of the “Mariupol” Immigrants Support Center. And the Rescue Service responded to such an initiative and prepared a program for the participants of the event, full of useful knowledge in the field of life safety.
Regional coordinator Anatoliy Stoyan worked in the humanitarian center, helping IDPs in obtaining food kits, clothes and shoes.
Western oblasts
Rivne Oblast

In the Rivne Oblast, they said goodbye to three defenders. They are Denys Tutuka from Sarny, whose last battle took place near Chervonopopivka in the Luhansk Oblast, Roman Kalashchuk from Rivne, who died on January 4 in the Kreminna Raion of the Luhansk Oblast, and Andrii Kovalyk from the Mlyniv Raion, who died on January 9 while performing a combat mission. He died near the village of Druzhba in the Donetsk Oblast.
In a village of the Rivne Oblast, local residents are making potbelly stoves for the front. They are sent to Bakhmut and Soledar. Defenders are grateful for such aid. The workshop was set up in one of the courtyards of the village of Malynsk. Usually four to six people work here. In total, they have already produced 29 potbelly stoves. 23 of them are already in the military, and six are ready to be sent.
Chernivtsi Oblast
Bukovyna paid last respect to the brave soldiers who gave their lives in the fight for the freedom and independence of Ukraine. The last tribute was paid to the soldiers Yevgeny Nechpai in the city of Novodnistrovsk, Todor Skipor in the village of Kupka, Artur Holodryha in the village of Luzhany.
They teach how to hold weapons and defend Ukraine. Soldiers of the 107th Territorial Defense Brigade in Chernivtsi train cadets from different parts of the country, passing on the experience gained on the front lines.
Employees of budgetary institutions of the Mamalyga territorial community rallied to help the army: they raised money and bought 5 tablets. The equipment cost 50 thousand hryvnias. The tablets were handed over to the Dniester battalion, which maintains the defense in the east of the country. Fighters will be able to use them for military purposes.
Bukovyna is one of the three leaders in arranging shelters in educational institutions. Thus, by the end of 2022, 806 institutions have been provided with shelters: kindergartens (92%), schools (97%), vocational schools and universities (100%).
