Northern oblasts

Kyiv Oblast

First Lady Olena Zelenska held a meeting with the winner of the 2018 Nobel Peace Prize, Iraqi human rights defender Nadia Murad, who arrived in Ukraine at the invitation of the President’s wife. They visited Borodianka together and discussed the importance of documenting the war crimes committed by the aggressor country in order to punish russian war criminals.

Zhytomyr Oblast

In Zhytomyr, the families of four fallen heroes were presented with Orders for Courage, 3rd Class. These are private Vasyl Honcharuk – a serviceman with the 95th Detached Airborne Assault Brigade of the Airborne Assault Forces, Soldier Roman Boyko – a serviceman with the air assault company of the 13th Detached Battalion of the Airborne Assault Forces, senior soldier Ruslan Moshkivskyi – the commander of the anti-tank unit of the fire support company of the 13th Detached Airborne Battalion, and soldier Viacheslav Chyhasov – senior gunner of the airborne assault detachment.

The city authorities of Zhytomyr presented gifts to the children of fallen Ukrainian defenders on the occasion of the Heroes’ Day. A hoodie, a silver pendant and a thermos with the emblem of the military branch and unit where their fathers served will remind them of their loved ones. This tradition was introduced in 2014.

The Zhytomyr rescuers received a 20 kW diesel-fueled generator from benefactors. The generator will provide power to the fire and rescue unit in case of emergency power outages in the raion. The humanitarian aid came from the Commonwealth of Ukraine Charitable Foundation.

Chernihiv Oblast

In the evening of May 22, russian troops shelled the border areas of the Chernihiv Oblast. There were no reports of casualties among the local population or damage to civilian infrastructure.

On May 23, russian troops again shelled the border of Chernihiv region. The Snovsk community came under fire. There were no reports of casualties among the local population or damage to civilian infrastructure.

Repair works of the destroyed bridge over the Desna River are underway in the Chernihiv Oblast. The surviving part of the bridge, where there is damage, will also be repaired. The work has already begun.

Sumy Oblast

During the day on May 22, the Bilopillia, Myropillia, Yunakivka, Nova Sloboda, and Velyka Pysarivka communities came under fire from russia. One person was wounded, a private house and a car were damaged.

In the villages of the Velyka Pysarivka community in the Sumy Oblast, a regular social bus service was temporarily stopped due to the shelling by russia. The shelling continued throughout the night and morning.

On the morning of May 23, the russian military shelled the border areas of the Sumy Oblast 6 times, there were 29 explosions. The Velyka Pysarivka and Shalyhyne came under fire. According to preliminary information, there were no casualties among the local population or damage to civilian infrastructure.

Due to the shelling by russia, 6 settlements of the Bilopillia Raion (717 consumers) and 9 settlements of the Velyka Pysarivka Raion(1,123 consumers) were de-energized in the Sumy Oblast. As a result of the night shelling of the Sumy Raion, four settlements (602 consumers) remained without power supply. This was reported by JSC Sumyoblenergo.

Eastern regions

Kharkiv Oblast

Over the past day, the enemy massively shelled the settlements in the Kharkiv, Kupiansk, Izium, and Chuhuiv raions with tube artillery, MLRS and missile weapons.

The shelling of Kupiansk with multiple rocket launchers damaged at least 14 private residential buildings and outbuildings, and caused fires. Two women, aged 76 and 53, and a 35-year-old civilian man were wounded. All the victims were hospitalized.

The enemy fired two 2 S-300 missiles at the area of the village of Viazove, Kharkiv Raion. Both missiles hit an open area in the field. There were no casualties or damage.

Mine clearance is underway. Over the past day, pyrotechnic units of the State Emergency Service inspected 9.8 hectares of territory and defused 59 explosive devices.

Donetsk Oblast

Over the past day, the russian army shelled 12 towns and villages of the Donetsk Oblast. The police documented 35 war crimes committed by the aggressor country.

In just 24 hours, russians killed 1 resident of the Donetsk Oblast and wounded 5 more people.

Since the beginning of the full-scale war, russian weapons have taken the lives of 1,529 civilians of the Donetsk Oblast and wounded 3,573 others. The number of casualties in Mariupol and Volnovakha is currently unknown.

Kramatorsk and Kramatorsk Raion

One house was damaged in the village of Mykolaivka, Kostiantynivka community.

In the Lysychansk sector, 2 houses were destroyed in Verkhniokamianske and 1 in Zvanivka, and 2 more houses were damaged in Torske of the Lyman community.

Pokrovsk and Pokrovsk Raion

In the Avdiivka sector, the enemy conducted unsuccessful offensives in the areas of Novokalynove, Severne, Vodiane, and Pervomaiske. At least two people were wounded as a result of an air strike on Avdiivka. The city was shelled 15 times. Today, more than 1,700 people still remain in the city, although there are opportunities and means for evacuation.

Numerous enemy attacks in the Maryinka sector were repelled in the vicinity of the town of Maryinka. The nearby village of Pobeda also came under hostile fire. Shelling attacks on Maryinka, Maksymilianivka, and Heorhiivka were recorded. The enemy also shelled the Kurakhove community with Uragan MLRS, causing no casualties.

American pilot and volunteer Mark Lindquist arrived in Pokrovsk. He came to launch a humanitarian podcast about the history of the people of Ukraine, entitled “Everything Ukraine”. Besides, he plans to raise 1 million dollars online for the needs of Ukraine.

The Pokrovsk territorial community has once again received humanitarian aid from the Proliska NGO. Three trucks arrived there carrying sleeping sets and hygiene kits, bed linen, kitchen utensils and other items.

Bakhmut and Bakhmut Oblast

Mariupol

France is ready to join the “Mariupol Reborn” city revival plan. Yesterday, the russian aviation once again dropped bombs on Beryslav. As a result of airstrikes and shelling in the city, a granary, a gas station, the territory of an enterprise, residential buildings and farm buildings were damaged. In total, on May 22, the russian army attacked six communities of the Beryslav Raion. One person was injured.

On the night of May 23, the russian military once again struck Kherson and Antonivka. In addition, the russian army shelled the island and coastal areas. There are no dead or injured.

Today, the russian military fired on a brigade of energy workers that went to repair a high-voltage line in the Bilozerka community. There are no injured.

During the day, Ukrainian aviators carried out eight strikes on russian military concentration areas and two anti-aircraft missile complexes. Four Kh-101/Kh-555 air-launched cruise missiles and a russian Mi-24 attack helicopter, 23 Shahed attack drones and nine reconnaissance drones were destroyed.

Rockets and gunners struck four control points, three areas of concentration of weapons and military equipment, four ammunition depots, 11 artillery pieces, a radar station and three electronic warfare stations of the russian army.

The German company handed over two 250 kVA transformers to the Kherson Vodokanal. They will allow the enterprise to work without interruption in the conditions of constant attacks by russian troops on the objects of the city’s civil infrastructure.

Central oblasts

Dnipropetrovsk Oblast

The enemy has hit the Nikopol Raion twice with heavy artillery. Shells flew to the communities of Marganets and Chervonohryhorivka. People were not injured.

In the intervals between the battles, in close proximity to the enemy, the paratroopers of the 25th Separate Sicheslav Airborne Brigade were awarded. The commander of the military unit, Lt. Col. Yevhen Lasiychuk, presented the well-deserved awards to the soldiers.

Since the beginning of May, Ukrainian air defense has destroyed 43 drones and 19 cruise missiles over the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast.

Victory Alley appeared in Heroes’ Square in Dnipro. Adults (mostly war participants) and children planted sakura. The event was dedicated to the Ukrainian Day of Heroes.

A charity fair was held in Dnipro to raise funds for the Armed Forces. The event was attended by 40 local entrepreneurs and craftsmen who put their products on sale. The raised money will be used to purchase a car for the 67th brigade.

Cherkasy Oblast

The Security Service of Ukraine caught a russian spy “red handed” in Cherkasy. He collected data on the locations and movements of the Ukrainian military and air defense systems. It is known that the suspect came under the guise of an IDP from the occupied Kherson Oblast. An agent of the aggressor state was detained while filming objects in Cherkasy. He is currently being held in custody.

Today, for the first time, a police bicycle patrol went on duty in Cherkasy. It will patrol the recreation areas.

Kirovohrad Oblast

It is planned to create additional sub-divisions of fire technicians in the Kirovohrad Oblast, which will work on demining Ukraine. Until 2014, there were 3 fire-technical units in combat readiness. Currently, there are 6 such departments working in the oblast – that’s 32 people. It is planned to create additional subdivisions consisting of 47 people.

Plastic bottle caps will be collected in Oleksandria to help the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This is how locals joined the All-Ukrainian mega collection within the framework of the “Plastic Saves Life” campaign. The goal is to collect 3 million plastic caps as soon as possible and buy drones for defenders.

Poltava Oblast

In Poltava, a petition was created for the daily honoring of the Ukrainian military. Its author demands that every morning at 8:50, 10 minutes before the national moment of silence, photos of all the fallen heroes of the city and raions of the Poltava Oblast be broadcast on the screen near the Kotliarevskyi cinema.

Chernivtsi Oblast

“Your blood can fight” – the blood donation month has started in Uzhhorod. Blood from the oblast transfusion station is sent to medical institutions of the city and oblast, and for the wounded to the front line.

The social photo exhibition “Happiness” by photo artist Catherine Kish will be held in Uzhhorod.
