NORTHERN OBLASTS
Kyiv
The UNITED24 ambassador, astronaut Scott Kelly, and filmmaker Doug Liman arrived in the capital of Ukraine. They came to signify their support for Ukrainians.
On Heroes’ Day, the annual bicycle race “Honoring the memory of Ukraine’s defenders” finished in Kyiv. It started on May 15 in Uzhhorod. Veterans cycled more than 1000 km, traveling through seven oblasts in memory of their comrades-in-arms. The money raised during the bike ride will be used to fund projects for physical rehabilitation of soldiers.
Zhytomyr Oblast
Today, in the oblast, the air defense forces shot down an enemy reconnaissance UAV.
Chernihiv Oblast
On May 22, russian troops shelled three border communities in the Chernihiv Oblast with mortars and tube artillery. Ukrainian servicemen recorded 19 explosions.
On the border with the oblast, russian military are mining their territories and re-building fortifications.
Sumy Oblast
Over the course of the day, russian troops bombarded the Sumy Oblast with various types of weapons.
At night and in the morning of May 23, russian military shelled the Sumy Oblast four times, including 16 mortar strikes.
Russian subversive reconnaissance groups are increasing their activity in the Sumy Oblast. The goal of these groups is to find the disposition of Ukrainian units and learn how the defense is organized in order to carry out attacks in the future.
EASTERN OBLASTS
Kharkiv Oblast
This morning the enemy launched more than 10 missile attacks on Kharkiv. As of 4 p.m., reports indicate that 17 people were wounded and seven people were killed. Several missiles hit the Vivat printing house, where more than 50 employees were working at the time of the attack. At least five of them were killed. DNA tests will be conducted to identify three of the victims, and two were identified based on their clothing. According to preliminary reports, the russian federation used S-300 or S-400 missiles.
Also in the morning, russia dropped a guided aerial bomb on the village of Zolochiv. Two women were wounded, 10 houses were damaged, outbuildings and power lines were destroyed or damaged.
In addition, the russians shelled Liubotyn: two people are known to have been wounded as a result of the shelling, they were provided with medical assistance.
The russian army attacked the railway infrastructure in the oblast. Six railroad workers sustained injuries. Railroad facilities in Kharkiv and the oblast were hit.
The enemy also targeted Derhachi where five people were wounded. Private houses and civilian cars were damaged.
As of 10 a.m., four russian assault attempts took place in the Kupiansk sector in the areas of Stelmakhivka and Hrekivka.
In the Kharkiv sector, Ukrainian troops repelled a russian attack in the Murom-Starytsia area.
Donetsk Oblast
On May 22, eleven settlements in the Donetsk Oblast were shelled, 29 civilian objects were destroyed. In total, russian troops shelled populated areas in the Oblast more than 20 times.
One person died, four were injured as a result of shelling by the russian army yesterday. The dead and wounded are residents of Toretsk, Pivnichne, and Lyman.
In total, since the beginning of the invasion, excluding the victims in Mariupol and Volnovakha, 1,968 people have died in the Donetsk Oblast, and 4,913 people have been injured.
Kramatorsk and Kramatorsk Raion
Smerch MLRS was used to hit Kostiantynivka by the russian federation. They hit on the night of May 23, damaging two gas pipelines and private residential buildings.
Pokrovsk and Pokrovsk Raion
In the morning, the russian federation shelled Selidove of the Donetsk Oblast. They attacked with Smerch rocket launchers. The administrative building of an industrial enterprise was damaged. There were no casualties or deaths.
At night, in the Pokrovsk direction, units of the Defense Forces shot down a russian Su-25 attack aircraft.
SOUTHERN OBLASTS
Mykolaiv Oblast
In the morning, air defense forces worked in the Mykolaiv Oblast on reconnaissance UAVs.
Zaporizhzhia Oblast
462 strikes on seven cities and villages of the Zaporizhzhia Oblast were carried out by the russian army during the past day.
Rescuers extinguished the fire of a residential building and a car that started as a result of shelling by the russian army in the village of Omelnyk in the Zaporizhzhia Oblast. There are no casualties or injuries.
A 74-year-old man died due to russian artillery shelling of Mala Tokmachka. The house and nearby structures were destroyed by the blast wave and debris.
The temporarily occupied ZNPP lost its connection to the Zaporizhzhia NPP — Dniprovska power line with a voltage of 750 kV. Currently, it is connected to only one power transmission line “Zaporizhzhia TPP – Ferosplavna” with a voltage of 330 kV. If this line is disconnected, another blackout will occur at the NPP, threatening the development of an accident.
Kherson Oblast
Yesterday, russian troops shelled 17 settlements in the Kherson Oblast, hit the Vysokopillia community with a missile, and carried out airstrikes in the Beryslav and Kherson raions. Two people were injured.
CENTRAL OBLASTS
Dnipropetrovsk Oblast
In the afternoon of May 23, an explosion was heard in Dnipro. The information is being clarified.
Cherkasy Oblast
26 cats and 8 dogs were evacuated to Cherkasy from the front-line zones of the Kharkiv Oblast. They were taken from the outskirts of Vovchansk, from Lyptsi and Cherkaski Tyshky. Most of these animals were taken by the Cherkasy residents to their families or for respite, but ten cats remained and are looking for new families.
Vinnytsia Oblast
In the south-eastern part of the Vinnytsia Oblast, air defense forces worked on reconnaissance UAVs.
WESTERN OBLASTS
Lviv Oblast
As a result of falling debris of a downed russian drone in the Zolochiv Raion on May 20, a fire started in a forestry. It covered almost 1 hectare. Volunteers will plant a new forest at the site of the fire.
