Northern Oblasts

Kyiv

A ceremony of raising the Ukrainian flag was held in Kyiv today. It was attended by President Zelenskyi, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Zaluzhnyi and other officials.

The third Summit of the Crimean Platform began in Kyiv. It is attended by representatives of 63 countries. This year, the attention of the participants is devoted to the restoration of the territorial integrity of Ukraine as a key element of ensuring the security of the Black Sea-Baltic region, the economic recovery of the peninsula, the humanitarian situation and the protection of human rights.

Minister of Defense of the Netherlands Kaisa Ollongren visited the exhibition of russian equipment, weapons and equipment organized by the Armed Forces of Ukraine along the Khreschatyk River.

Different types of drones, cruise missiles, mines, electronic warfare devices, ammunition and more are presented.

The University named after Shevchenko restored the original windows, which were destroyed last year in October due to the arrival of a russian missile.

In Kyiv, the old names of the metro stations “Lev Tolstoy Square” and “Druzhby Narodov” are being replaced. Previously, they were renamed “Square of Ukrainian Heroes” and “Zvirynetska”, respectively.

The photo exhibition “Defenders of Independence” opened at the Central Railway Station. There are more than 100 works of leading Ukrainian photographers about the first days of the russian invasion.

Kyiv Oblast

Today, in the Vyshgorod raion, the destruction of explosive objects was carried out.

The head of Kyiv OMA Ruslan Kravchenko took part in the ceremony of raising the State Flag of Ukraine in Buch. The ceremonial flag raising was held near the memorial to the defenders of the Bucha territorial community.

The President of Portugal, Marcel Rebel de Souzi, visited Bucha. Prosecutor General Andriy Kostin showed the President of Portugal, Marcel Rebelo de Souza, the city that has become a symbol of russia’s barbaric aggression – Bucha. The Prosecutor General thanked Portugal for its contribution to the reconstruction of Ukraine, as well as for political, financial, military and humanitarian assistance. He noted that today Bucha is recovering thanks to the support of international partners.

Zhytomyr Oblast

Volunteers presented 16 Bichon puppies in Zhytomyr to the children of soldiers who died for Ukraine.

Chernihiv Oblast

During the past day, the russians fired mortars, barrel artillery and grenade launchers at the Semenivka community on the border of Chernihiv Oblast.

The city government of Chernihiv plans to allocate 40 million hryvnias for the restoration of damaged buildings and school No. 3, which were hit by a russian missile strike on August 19.

Sumy Oblast

During the day, August 22, 115 explosions were recorded in Sumy Oblast as a result of russian shelling in seven border communities.

On the morning of August 23, in Romny, Sumy Oblast, a russian drone of the “Shahed” type hit an educational institution, the building of the institution was completely destroyed. 4 people died. Also, 4 local residents who were passing by the educational institution at the time of the shooting were injured. From August 23 to 25, a three-day mourning period was announced in the Roma community.

On August 23, the russians shelled Seredino-Buda in the Sumy Oblast, the russian army attacked the branch of “Svesky Forestry” of the State Enterprise “Forests of Ukraine”. A mobile crane was completely destroyed and three cars were damaged, the windows were broken and the roof of the branch’s hangar was mutilated.

Eastern Oblasts

Kharkiv Oblast

Yesterday evening, the enemy launched an attack with two missiles (previously S-300) on the village of Chkalivske, Chuguyiv raion. It was recorded that two rockets hit near the administration building, which houses the cultural center, cafe, village council and sports hall. The building is damaged.

During the past day, the enemy fired artillery, mortars and other weapons at populated areas of Izyum, Chuguyiv and Kupyansk raions.

5 private houses were damaged as a result of shelling from the “Uragan” SAM in the village of Shiykivka, Izyum raion. A 65-year-old woman was injured and hospitalized in a moderate condition.

In the village of Cherneshchyna, Izyum raion, private houses were damaged.

In the village of Novosergiivka of the Izyum raion and Glushkivka of the Kupyansk raion, fires broke out in the fields due to enemy shelling.

Demining works are ongoing. Pyrotechnicians of the State Emergency Service inspected more than 7.5 hectares of territory and neutralized 57 explosive objects in a day.

Donetsk Oblast

In total, during the past day, the russian army shelled 11 towns and villages of the Donetsk Oblast.

On August 22, shelling by the russian army in Donetsk Oblast killed three people and injured four others.

In the temporarily occupied territories of the Donetsk Oblast, the russians in the occupied universities could not recruit a sufficient number of students, so they canceled the exams, made education free and promised an exchange program to the russian.

Kramatorsk and Kramatorsk Raion

Kramatorsk celebrated the National Flag Day of Ukraine. The city’s leadership, employees of the Kramatorsk City Military Administration and Kramatorsk City Council, together with representatives of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, celebrated the Day of the National Flag of Ukraine. The solemn event took place at the monument to the outstanding son of the Ukrainian people, poet, and thinker Taras Shevchenko. The celebrations were held in compliance with all martial law requirements and without inviting guests.

The exhibition “Unity for the Future” opened at the train station in Kramatorsk. The collection of photographs was first presented in Uzhhorod on the day of the launch of the “Unity Train” in February 2023. This year, the train traveled from Uzhhorod to Kramatorsk, carrying words of support for our soldiers in the east, and in 2022, from Rakhiv to Mariupol, the longest route we dream of repeating. Subsequently, the exhibition traveled to train stations in Chernivtsi, Ivano-Frankivsk, Vinnytsia, Odesa, Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia, and Sloviansk. The exhibition reminds us of what really unites our nation: railroad tracks and an iron will to win.

Pokrovsk and Pokrovsk Raion

In the Avdiivka sector, our defenders successfully repelled attacks by russian troops near Avdiivka. The settlements of Novokalynove, Stepove, Avdiivka, Tonenke, and Umanske in the Donetsk Oblast came under artillery fire.

In the Maryinka sector, Ukrainian defense forces continue to hold back the russian offensive in the area of Maryinka, Donetsk Oblast. The localities of Maryinka, Pobeda, Yelyzavetivka, Novomykhailivka, Katerynivka, Antonivka in the Donetsk Oblast came under artillery fire.

Bakhmut and Bakhmut Raion

In the Bakhmut sector, the enemy launched an air strike near Ivanivske in the Donetsk Oblast. More than 15 localities suffered from enemy artillery shelling, including Minkivka, Bohdanivka, Ivanivske, and Dyliiivka in Donetsk Oblast.

Luhansk Oblast

The invaders are in a hurry to force passportization of the elderly. To strengthen the measures, representatives of the occupation administration of Markivka Raion are personally visiting homes and conducting propaganda talks with pensioners. They promise to help with food after receiving russian-type documents. When this argument does not work, they threaten that these people will not be allowed to see a doctor without a russian passport.

The register of debtors for utilities is growing in Novopskov region. At first, people were cut off from electricity for small debts. Later, the gas company took over. Those who exceeded the annual limit have to pay almost twice as much for each cubic meter consumed. If the excess is even greater, the price triples. The residents of the community under occupation are already receiving the corresponding receipts with debts.

Southern Oblasts

Mykolaiv Oblast

Yesterday, on August 22, hostile artillery shelling was recorded along the coastline of the Kutsurub community. There were no casualties.

Also yesterday, on August 22, and this morning, on August 23, the enemy delivered artillery strikes on the waters of the Ochakiv community. There were no casualties.

On the night of August 22, the enemy shelled the city of Ochakiv. As a result of the shelling, the roof of the church caught fire, which was promptly extinguished by units of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Mykolaiv Oblast. There were no casualties.

This morning, the city of Ochakiv was again subjected to enemy artillery shelling. As a result of the shelling, dry grass caught fire. A household gas pipeline, the roof and ceiling of a two-story residential building, and the roof of a one-story residential building were also damaged. The details and consequences of the damage are being clarified. According to preliminary information, there were no casualties.

In Mykolaiv, Pervomaisk, Voznesensk, and Bashtanka Raions, the day and night were relatively calm.

Zaporizhzhia Oblast

Over the past day, russians fired 97 times at towns and villages in Zaporizhzhia Oblast.

The IAEA experts, who are on the territory of the temporarily seized Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, reported that between August 14 and 21, they recorded several explosions and shooting. The IAEA also reported that in the coming days, experts at the ZNPP are expecting access to the roofs of reactor buildings 1, 2, 5 and 6.

Odesa Oblast

During the night, the enemy carried out another attack on civilian infrastructure. The russians attacked Odesa Oblast with attack drones from the eastern coast of the Azov Sea. The enemy hit grain storage facilities and a production and transshipment complex in the Danube area. A fire broke out in the warehouses and was quickly localized. Firefighters continue to work. There were no civilian casualties.

Kherson Oblast

On August 22, about 300 hectares of the protected steppe of Askania-Nova burned down in the “Velykyi Chapelskyi Pid” area in Kherson Oblast. According to the ministry, the fire was caused by the russian occupiers.

On the morning of August 23, russians struck the Korabelnyi Raion of Kherson. A guided aerial bomb hit a kindergarten building. The blast wave hit nearby apartment buildings. Houses, shops, power lines, and a gas pipeline were damaged. Six people were wounded in the shelling.

On August 22, on the eve of Ukraine’s Independence Day, an exhibition of works by Dmytro Olifirenko, a volunteer and artist from Antonivka, Kherson Oblast, opened at the Museum of Shipbuilding and Fleet. The man creates works from the fragments of russian missiles and shells.

Central Oblasts

Dnipropetrovsk Oblast

Russian invaders shelled the Nikopol raion of the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast twice. They targeted a residential building and a private enterprise. Local residents were not injured.

The «MARTIN-club» public organization, together with the International Rescue Committee, created four day centers for children of different ages in Dnipro. Coaches, psychologists, consultants, play and trauma therapists, doctors, lawyers, social workers and teachers work with children. Parents are also helped.

The «Color of Childhood» holiday was organized for 60 children of military personnel in Slobozhanske. Children enjoyed sweets, played games and received gifts.

Dnipropetrovsk Oblast farmers sent 300 tons of grain to the de-occupied Kherson Oblast.

In Dnipro, at the House of Arts, the photo exhibition «Live, Ukraine!» was opened. It is timed to the Independence Day of Ukraine. Three dozen photos by different authors record what Ukraine is experiencing during the war.

Kirovohrad Oblast

A summer military-patriotic tent camp «Kazavchynska Sich named after Ivan Sirko» was held on the territory of the Hayvoron community of the Golovanivsk raion, where 40 children aged 13 to 18 deepened their knowledge of the history of Ukraine, learned to defend themselves, and attended trainings on pre-medical, military and tactical training.

Poltava Oblast

Poltava received 62 generators from international partners. Equipment with power from 4 to 15 kW. It will be transferred to medical and educational institutions, to places of compact settlement.

In Poltava, a street named after the russian physicist Igor Kurchatov will be renamed. Under his leadership, the world’s first thermonuclear bomb and nuclear power plant were created. He was also the organizer and head of the work that led to the creation of the first nuclear weapon in the ussr.

Cherkasy Oblast

In Cherkasy, a «day of support and beauty» was organized for women who lost relatives in the russian-Ukrainian war. Specialists advised how to take better care of themselves, and afterwards each of the participants could use beauty services.

Western Oblasts

Rivne Oblast

Shelters are being built and equipped in nine educational institutions in the Rivne Oblast. For this, money in the amount of 50.5 million hryvnias was allocated from the educational subvention and co-financed by territorial communities in the amount of almost 39.2 million.

Khmelnytskyi Oblast

Teachers of the Khmelnytskyi community were taught how to fly drones. The three-day courses were held on the basis of the Khmelnytskyi Institute of Social Technologies of the University «Ukraine». Classes were organized after the Ministry of Education and Science announced an update of the school curriculum on the subject «Defense of Ukraine». They plan to add more practice to the lessons, in particular, studying the operation of drones. To do this, teachers are currently being trained so that they can pass on their knowledge to children in the future.

The towel of unity was handed over from Khmelnytskyi to Vinnytsia. The artistic and patriotic project to create the International embroidered towel of the Embroidery flower association was launched in 2013. One towel, 12.5 meters long, combines the ornaments of 24 Oblasts of Ukraine, Crimea, and the city of Kyiv, as well as 26 patterns that are most common in Ukrainian diasporas of other countries. The embroidery of the Khmelnytskyi ornament on the unity towel was performed by Nadiya Demchuk, a graduate of national education of Ukraine, a member of the National Union of Masters of Folk Art of Ukraine from the village of Hrytsiv, Shepetivka raion.

Chernivtsi Oblast

A meeting of the Oblast Coordination Council on Internally Displaced Persons was held. It considered a number of issues, in particular, regarding preferential travel for immigrants and other vulnerable categories of the population.

The Chernivtsi Oblast Military Administration held a working meeting with the Deputy Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine, Taras Shevchenko. During the meeting, the main vectors of development, European integration in the field of culture, and the general situation in the media and cultural environment in Ukraine and Bukovyna were discussed.

Mykhailo Rymlyansky from Bukovyna received the award of the President of Ukraine «For the Defense of Ukraine». Artur Radomskyi, a resident of the village of Striletskyi Kut, in the Mamayivtsi community, was also awarded the honorary badge «For Valorous Service».

Bukovyna volunteers from Nedoboyivtsi, Hlyboka, Vashkivtsi, and Selyatyn territorial communities continue their work in the Kherson Oblast: as part of the «Side by Side» initiative, they plan to restore 35 houses at the first stage.

Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast

Residents of the village of Tysmenychany, in Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast, collected money and bought two cars for the soldiers of the 68th separate hunting brigade named after Oleksa Dovbush. Another one was repaired free of charge by masters for the soldiers of the Armed Forces. They have been volunteering in the village since 2014 — they buy cars and hand them over to military personnel. During 2023, people bought four cars and one drone for the needs of fighters.

Zakarpattia Oblast

In Uzhhorod, mini-sculptures were decorated in blue and yellow colors for Flag Day.
