Kyiv

Free screenings of patriotic films will be held in the capital’s cinemas throughout the week. As the Kyiv City Council reports, on the occasion of the 31st anniversary of Ukraine’s independence, the creative project “Kinoecho” will be held from August 20 to 27.

A memorial plaque dedicated to the russian writer Mikhail Bulgakov was removed from the facade of the yellow building of the Kyiv Taras Shevchenko National University.

Kyiv Oblast

Hollywood actor Liev Schreiber and football player Andriy Shevchenko visited Borodianka today.

As a result of the russian military aggression, more than 200 educational institutions were damaged in the Kyiv Oblast. Most of them have already been restored with funds allocated from the reserve fund of the state budget, work is still ongoing at some sites. The AV Metal Group company provided a batch of metal tiles for the repair of the roof for the Bucha School No. 3. In general, there are plans to deliver more than 11,500 square meters of roofing materials to the Dmytrivka, Bucha, Ivankiv, Borodianka, and Byshiv territorial communities. This will make it possible to repair roofs in 13 educational institutions.

In Makariv, Kyiv Oblast, they repaired a bridge over the Zdvyzh River, which was damaged by the russian military as a result of a direct hit by shells. Now the section across the bridge is fully open for car and truck traffic.

Almost half a thousand residents of Irpin, who lost their homes, are planned to be settled in the camp named after Yuri Gagarin. This will be the third location in Irpin for the temporary residence of victims of russian aggression.

In the children’s polyclinic in Irpin, windows that were damaged during the hostilities are being replaced. Also, the windows in the children’s hospital and in the newly built medical center will be replaced in a few days.

Today, two groups of schoolgirls brought 16 thousand hryvnias to the City Council. They collected money for the Ukrainian Army at improvised checkpoints in Irpin.

Zhytomyr Oblast

Two explosions as a result of a missile attack were confirmed in the Zhytomyr Raion. This was announced by the head of the Zhytomyr Oblast Military Administration Vitaliy Bunechko and the mayor Serhiy Sukhomlyn. As of 4:10 p.m., there were no victims after the explosions in the Zhytomyr Raion. Serhiy Sukhomlyn once again urged the residents of the oblast not to ignore the air raid alerts and to stay in shelters if they hear the sound of sirens. People in the community are much frightened by what they heard and saw. They discuss the explosions.

The Malyn police announced suspicion to a collaborator. In the course of the pre-trial investigation, it was established that this woman, a resident of the Ovruch community, while communicating with her fellow villagers, justified the actions of the aggressor state and stated that the shelling of civilians was carried out by the Ukrainian military, while russian soldiers had come to liberate the population of Ukraine.

The coordinator of the AUI “Active Community” communicated with internally displaced persons on the provision of humanitarian and psychological assistance.

Chernihiv Oblast

The Mayor of Chernihiv, Vladyslav Atroshenko, and a representative of the branch of the Czech humanitarian organization “Man in Trouble” in Ukraine signed a joint memorandum on cooperation and assistance to the residents of Chernihiv, whose apartments were damaged as a result of shelling by russians. The organization will help repair the apartments of Chernihiv residents. 

The French government is ready to assist in demining the Chernihiv Oblast with the involvement of its specialists and equipment, as well as to help train Ukrainian specialists, in particular, in demining water bodies.

Leonardo from Argentina and Sergi from Georgia came to Chernihiv a week ago to help residents of Chernihiv from the Bobrovytsia neighborhood to dismantle demolitions and remove the rubble of the houses damaged by russian shelling in March.

Today, near Shestovytsia, rescuers carried out disposal of explosive ordnance by detonation.

Sumy Oblast

Yesterday, the russians fired four times from their territory on the – Shalyhyne, Khotyn, and Znob-Novhorodske communities in the Sumy Oblast.

More than 370 critical infrastructure facilities, residential houses and administrative buildings, which were damaged as a result of the russian aggression, have been restored in the Sumy Oblast. In particular, in the Konotop, Okhtyrka, and Shostka raions.

Eastern oblasts

Kharkiv Oblast

Around 10:30 p.m. yesterday, the enemy shelled the Kyivskyi district of Kharkiv with MLRS. Private houses were damaged, the road surface was hit. Ukrainian language teacher Alla lives with her mother in one of the damaged houses near the Selysche Zhukovskoho micro-district. A woman teaches students of one of Kharkiv’s higher educational institutions.

At approximately 2:30 a.m., the Defense Headquarters recorded 7 missile launches from Belgorod in the direction of Kharkiv. The Shevchenkivskyi, Kyivskyi, Saltivskyi, Industrialnyi, and Kholodnohirskyi districts of the city came under attack.

One of the missiles launched by the Russian army at Kharkiv on the night of August 16 hit the ground on Vesnina Street. The building of the Research Coal Chemical Institute was damaged.

Today, the russian army attacked Zolochiv, Kharkiv Oblast. The occupiers shelled the village with artillery around 11:30. Zolochiv Lyceum No. 2 was damaged.

Some of the rockets hit open-air areas, so they did not cause fires. The facades of the buildings were damaged by shrapnel and the blast wave; also, the road surface was partially ruined.

Over the past day, the enemy continued to attack civilian buildings and structures in the Kharkiv, Bohodukhiv, Chuhuiv, and Izium raions of the oblast. Private residential houses and outbuildings were damaged.

During the day, 9 people got wounded in Kharkiv, including a 75-year-old woman who died from her injuries.

Donetsk Oblast

In the Kramatorsk sector, the enemy continued shelling from artillery of various types near Kramatorsk, Spirne, and Ivano-Daryivka.

The russians are on the offensive in the direction of Lysychansk oil refinery – Ivano-Daryivka; hostilities continue.

In the Avdiivka sector, the enemy shelled the areas of Krasnohorivka, Spartak, and Nevelske with tube artillery. Russians lead an offensive in the direction of Staromykhailivka – Nevelske; hostilities continue. 

On August 15, the russians killed 1 civilian of the Donetsk Oblast — in Kostyantynivka. 2 more people were wounded.

Since February 24, the russians have killed 734 civilians of the Donetsk Oblast, and wounded another 1,905.

Kramatorsk

As a result of the shelling of Kramatorsk on the night of August 16, four private houses were destroyed. There were no casualties.

Also, an agricultural enterprise was hit. Only property was damaged.

In Sloviansk, several micro-districts were under fire, including Lisniy, where a dormitory of the Donbas State Pedagogical University was damaged. There were no casualties.

Evacuation of the population continues. Residents are increasingly registering to travel to safe regions. At the same time, the issue of delay in the relief payment to internally displaced persons is becoming acute.

The procedure for issuing humanitarian aid from the association “EVERYTHING WILL BE FINE” has been slightly changed. From now on, in order to prevent frauds with the sale of a place in the queue, flyers are introduced, which are issued by volunteers before the start of work.

Pokrovsk and Pokrovsk Raion

The enemy was most active last night in the Avdiivka, Ocheretyne, Maryinka, and Kurakhove communities.

In Avdiivka, chaotic and massive shelling almost did not stop throughout the night. The central and old parts of the city were under fire.

In the Ocheretyne community, the invaders used the Uragan MLRS with cluster munitions in the Karlivka area.

In the middle of the night, the village of Maksymilianivka of the Maryinka community was hit by a missile: the House of Culture and 4 shops were damaged. There were no casualties.

In Kurakhove, the russians launched a missile attack on the electricity supply infrastructure and several enterprises. One person was wounded. The enemy shells the suburbs and nearby settlements. 

The past day in the Pokrovsk community was relatively quiet. The facts about the casualties and the destruction were not reported.

The enemy is mass-attacking Maryinka, Pokrovsk Raion, using missiles and artillery. Now the road to the city is under direct fire, so it is extremely dangerous to use it. Police units “White Angels” evacuated the wounded and their families from Maryinka.

The Selydove community of the Pokrovsk Raion has prepared 16 wells of drinking and technical water for life under stressful conditions.

Bakhmut

Bakhmut remains one of the hottest spots in the Donetsk oblast. Russians beat civilians every day. The city is under constant shelling. More than 20 houses were damaged in the previous night alone. This is only a small part of the disaster that the russians brought there.

On the night of August 14-15, dozens of projectiles from various types of weapons were fired into the city.

In the direction of Bakhmut, the enemy shelled the areas of Bakhmut, Bakhmutske, Soledar, Shumy, Bilogorivka, Kostyantynivka, Yakovlivka and Zaytseve from tanks, barrel and rocket artillery.

Enemy units conducted offensive and assault operations in the directions of Volodymyrivka – Bakhmutske and Stryapivka – Soledar. Here Ukrainian soldiers stopped and pushed the invaders back. Fighting continues in the Pokrovske – Bakhmutske and Horlivka – Zalizne directions.

Mariupol

Residents of russian-occupied Mariupol are still without water and electricity. Despite all the promises of the russians, it is impossible to do this now. Large-scale works with all the necessary complex of actions are constantly postponed, and deadlines are postponed.

Propaganda leaflets are actively distributed in the city at every step. It is almost impossible to get humanitarian aid.

Luhansk Oblast

The russians are conducting a massive offensive from the side of the Lysychansk Oil Refinery. They use every opportunity to create favourable conditions for a further offensive in individual areas. They are attacking in different directions to push the Armed Forces of Ukraine out of the defensive fortifications. Six times yesterday, the Ukrainian defenders forced them to retreat.

In various ways, the russians force residents of the occupied territories to obtain a passport of the so-called “LNR”, and then immediately mobilize the men.

Southern Oblasts

Kherson Oblast

The troops of the Russian Federation are shelling peaceful settlements around the clock. The villages of Osokorivka, Ivanivka, Olhyne, Mykolaivka and the village of Arkhangelske are under fire. Private houses were damaged, local residents were injured. In the morning, the russian military shelled Novopavlivka with cluster shells, and livestock died. A fire broke out at the railway station in Henicheskyi district as a result of the hostilities, as a result of which wagons burned out.

On the night of August 16th, a diversionary reconnaissance group of russian troops tried to get behind the units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine near Osokorivka, Kherson oblast. As a result of the shooting battle, it retreated. This was reported by the spokesman of the Operational Command “South” Vladyslav Nazarov. 

In Kherson, the russian military set up a torture chamber in the Kherson reception distributor for children. About 60-70 Kherson people are kept there. People are kept in terrible conditions.

Mykolayiv Oblast

Yesterday afternoon, at 12 o’clock, enemy shelling of the Pervomaysk community of Pervomaisk was recorded. As a result, educational institution, private houses and homesteads were damaged.

Yesterday, from 15:00 to 18:00, the enemy struck the village of Lyman of the Halytsynov community. The power grid is damaged.

Also yesterday afternoon at approximately 14:00 the russians shelled the village of Shiroke of the Shirokiv community. One residential building was destroyed, and the already destroyed school and road were hit.

Around 21:00, the russians shelled the village of Chervona Dolyna and hits on open areas were recorded. Also after midnight, there were shellings of Krasnaya Dolyna.

The shelling of the territory and nearby settlements of the Berezneguvat community continues. Thus, on August 15, the occupiers shelled the villages of Lepetykha and Kavkaz. At night, approximately at 02:40, Berezneguvate came under fire. As a result, one person died and one person was injured. Residential buildings were destroyed .

Central Oblasts

Kirovohrad Oblast

The day in the community passed calmly, without air worries. The situation in the communities of the oblast is calm and under control.

On September 16th, residents of Kropivnytsky paid their respects to their compatriots who heroically died while stopping the russian aggressors in the Donetsk oblast. Senior soldier Mykola Kipichenko and junior sergeant Sephiy Danilov were escorted to the Alley of Honorable Military Burials of the Far East Cemetery by friends, comrades, and comrades.

The head of the Kirovohrad Oblast Military Administration, Andriy Raikovych, said that the Kirovohrad oblast has already finished harvesting the early crops. 2 million tons were collected.

A “Free Ukraine” mural was created in the Dmytriv community of the Kropyvnytskyi raion. A symbolic image appeared on the facade of the building of the basic village centre of culture. The author and performer of the mural is Volodymyr Polyakov. This work of art will become the business card of the Dmitri community, its new brand, a symbol of its identity, and a location for photo shoots. 

At the end of August, a bicycle race will be held in Kropyvnytskyi, during which you can win an electric bicycle worth 60,000 hryvnias in the charity lottery #Я_доповываю_ЗСУ. The cost of participation is 100 hryvnias – the minimum contribution. 

The coordinator of AUI “Active Community” provided advice to the displaced people on obtaining documents on the status of an internally displaced person, as well as information on the available resources of employers in the regional centre and surrounding communities.

Poltava Oblast

A faithful son of the Poltava oblast – Bohdan Syvets, a junior sergeant of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, died.

Volunteers from Poltava, who fought under Bakhmut in the Donetsk oblast, returned home. These are the soldiers of the Poltava assault company, which was formed to perform combat missions directly at ground zero. Most of the volunteers had no prior combat experience. Despite this, all tasks were performed perfectly. They are exhausted, but indomitable. 

Today, First Deputy Mayor Valery Parkhomenko held a meeting with representatives of the International Organization UNICEF. Together, they discussed three key areas of cooperation: preparing the community for the heating season and responding to crisis situations; readiness of educational institutions for the new academic year; preparation of health care facilities and heating centres for the autumn-winter period and providing them with all the necessary materials.

There are 533 schools in Poltava Oblast. Of them, 160 have ready-made shelters, and another 130 are in the process of preparation. The region and communities are now doing everything to ensure that shelters in schools have everything they need. 

Migrants study the Ukrainian language in Poltava. More people who moved from Kharkiv and Chuguyev came to the second class. They overcome the fear and language barrier that prevents them from starting to speak Ukrainian at free classes.

The team of AUI “Active Community” of Poltava helped the displaced people to get the necessary information about the provision of financial assistance from the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. The address of the registration of immigrants has changed. Information was provided to 7 families today.

Khmilnyk and Khmilnyk raion

Air raid sirens sounded throughout the day.

Western Oblasts

Drohobych

Yesterday evening, an air alert began due to the threat of a missile strike from the Black Sea. In the afternoon, the air alarm sounded once more. The danger did not materialize. Currently, everything is calm in Lviv Oblast.

Another 412 people arrived in Lviv from the epicenters of hostilities on two evacuation trains.

758 people left for Przemyśl from Lviv Oblast.

17,701 people left Ukraine through checkpoints in the Lviv region. 22 thousand 309 citizens of Ukraine returned.

Ivano-Frankivsk

Today, the mayor of Ivano-Frankivsk gave an order to work out the issue of creating so-called heating points. First, he proposed to work out the issue of creating such points at educational institutions. He also instructed me to check the voltage of the power grids and buy generators if there are still problems with gas. “It is necessary to calculate the load so that the electric network can withstand the work of electric heaters. We must think about it in advance so that we are ready. In the neighborhoods, we need to identify places where people could come to warm themselves,” said the mayor.

In general, the situation in the region is stable and under control.

Rivne Oblast

The general situation is relatively calm, as of 18:00 there was one air alarm.

Eighteen young authors from different cities of Ukraine wrote their own stories about war and victory. Children who were forced to leave their homes in Avdiivka, Popasnaya, Mariupol, Bucha, Chernihiv, Kherson and other cities and villages of Ukraine found shelter today in the Rivne region. The collection ” Pereseleni sonechka (Moved Ladybugs)” is unique because there are no analogues either in Ukraine or in the world. After the full-scale invasion, the heads of local public organizations Olena Medvedeva “Creative Center” and Oksana Hrytsyut “Bearers of Peace” united and began to provide psychological help not only to children, but also to adults fleeing the war in the volunteer center. The total circulation of the publication is 6,000 copies. The children-authors dedicated this book to every soldier of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. A charity sale of books and “magic wands” of children’s work took place at the presentation of the publication “Pereseleni sonechka”. The young authors collected 4,190.00 hryvnias and handed them over as intended – for the needs of the military.

The coordinator of the All-Ukrainian Initiative “Active Community” held an art therapy master class on making amulet angels. Residents of the Rivne community and internally displaced persons took part in it.

Zdovbytsia

The general situation in the region is calm. Today there was an air alert that lasted about an hour. Currently, more than 200 internally displaced people live in the community. Today they were provided with food kits from the village council.

Local deputies from European Solidarity handed over stretchers for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and with the support of residents, they handed over canned goods, coffee, tea, shower gels, sweets, eggs, tomatoes, and dry rations.

The Sunflower Seeds Ukraine organization provided local volunteers with night vision devices, knee pads, water filters and drinking systems (camelbags) of 2 liters for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Local volunteers weave nets for the needs of the military at the Zdovbytsky Lyceum.

The coordinator of the All-Ukrainian Initiative “Active Community” organized art therapy in the walls of the museum of the history of the village of Kunyn, where residents got acquainted with the history of their native land and studied folk songs. Both locals and displaced people took part in the event.

Kamianets-Podilskyi

At night and during the day, air raid signals were on.

There are 5 multidisciplinary mobile teams of socio-psychological assistance to war victims operating in Khmelnytskyi region. One of them is in Kamianets. It provides psychological first aid, legal advice, social support, medical aid, humanitarian kits and informational materials.

Monitoring of the preparation of educational institutions for the new school year continues in the community. Yesterday, the commission inspected 11 institutions – schools and kindergartens.

The annual charity event “Getting children ready for school” has started for families who find themselves in difficult life circumstances. Today, employees of the Center for Social Services for Family, Children and Youth, with the support of the Red Cross Society, distributed school backpacks to 50 community children.

Over the past week, the Department of Social Protection has assigned 250 types of benefits, of which 128 are for internally displaced persons, 82 are for families with children, and 40 are subsidies for housing and communal services. Also, the Department of Social Protection accepts applications for a tourist trip for children of privileged categories to the city of Ukmerge in Lithuania.

Chernivtsi Oblast

During the day, an air warning signal sounded twice in the Chernivtsi oblast, currently the situation is calm and under control.

Bukovyna bid farewell to the soldiers who fought for the freedom and independence of Ukraine: Lieutenant Ivan Goncharov, soldiers Yuri Tsaryk and Oleg Deda.

The first days of the large-scale invasion were met by a military officer from Chernivtsi, border service lieutenant colonel Oleksandr Tsymbal, in Volyn.

He could not believe that russia would attack Ukraine until that really happened. 

32 psychologists from Bukovyna successfully completed the “Crisis Psychological Assistance” course. Experts from the Israeli Trauma Coalition shared with them effective techniques that are necessary when working with internally displaced persons of various age categories during war.

Zakarpattia Oblast

In Uzhhorod, the public organization “Ekosphere” is also holding “Green Holidays” for migrant children.

On the occasion of Youth Day, young people in Mukachevo organized a literary party called: “Oh, don’t teach the young! Let them be young.”

“22 forced migrants were employed in the Mukachevo hospital,” – reported Yevhen Meshko, director of the medical facility.
