Northern Oblasts
Kyiv
In Kyiv, part of energy-efficient projects will be implemented in residential buildings under the 70/30% program. The city is getting ready for the heating season: they carry out planned work, accumulate reserve fuel and install generators.
For the Independence Day of Ukraine, a flower garden dedicated to Bayraktar was created in Kyiv in Obolonskyi District.
On August 16, the Soviet star was removed from the Kyiv Polytechnic monument.
Kyiv Oblast
Today, the Head of the Kyiv Military Administration, Oleksiy Kuleba, together with Kelly Clements, Deputy UN High Commissioner for Refugees, visited Zabuyannia and talked with the residents of the damaged buildings. In total, during the hostilities, the invaders damaged 224 objects in the Zabuyannia district of the Makariv hromada, 44 of which were completely destroyed.
Tours to war-torn cities start in Kyiv region. The tourist portal Visit Ukraine initiates and implements the idea. They decided to start with the cities of Kyiv Oblast. Accompanied by a professional guide, tourists will be able to visit Bucha, Irpin, Borodianka and Hostomel.
Irpin residents have already submitted more than 700 applications for renaming streets. The question of naming streets after our fallen heroes was especially hotly debated.
The Partnership for a Strong Ukraine Foundation and Chemonics International Inc. will help repair the Irpin Academic Lyceum and set up shelters in several educational institutions of Irpin hromada. The company has already delivered building materials to the Academic Lyceum.
As of now, within the funding allocated by the oblast for people who have lost their homes, there is an opportunity to buy 72 apartments and build 70–75 houses for the entire Kyiv Oblast. Of these, 14 apartments and 15 houses were planned for the residents of Irpin.
In the forest between the villages of Zdvizhivka and Blystavytsia of the Bucha territorial hromada, police officers found the body of a 58-year-old man killed by russian invaders at the beginning of a full-scale invasion. On February 28, the man and his family tried to drive out into safe territory, but the car was shot by the russian military.
Zhytomyr Oblast
The head of Zhytomyr Oblast Military Administration, Vitaly Bunechko, took part in the opening of a new family-type orphanage in Hryshkivtsi hromada during his working trip to Berdychiv Raion.
Government officials from the Donetsk region visited institutions in Zhytomyr that are involved in the registration and reception of internally displaced persons in the hromada.
The Zhytomyr theater opens a charity exhibition and sale of art handicrafts, paintings, small-scale sculpture and creative variations presented by the craftsmen of Zhytomyr Oblast. All funds received will go to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The coordinator of the All-Ukrainian Initiative “Active Community” established relations with representatives of the authorities regarding internally displaced persons.
Chernihiv Oblast
On August 16, russian troops shelled the border of Chernihiv Oblast. In the vicinity of one of the settlements of the Novhorod-Siverskyi hromada, the russians fired with barrel artillery. Four explosions were registered. The shelling came from the russian village of Sluchovsk. Semenivka hromada was shelled by self-propelled artillery weapon – 16 explosions were registered. The shelling was from the russian settlement of Manev.
Today, near Shestovitsa, the rescuers of the State Emergency Service neutralized explosive objects via blasting.
Sumy Oblast
Yesterday the russians opened fire 12 times on the territories of Khotyn, Bilopilsk, Mykolaiv (rural), Shalygin and Krasnopilsk communities. About 130 hits were recorded. The enemy shelled the villages of Popivka, Pavlivka, Yastrubyne, Atynske, Stukalyvka of the Sumy raion; Vovkivka, Cherneve, Gudove of the Shostka raion. In total, there are 105 hits. The police are documenting the consequences of these attacks.
The village of Bilovody now has downed power lines, damaged gas infrastructure, and broken yards of civilians.
On August 17, the russian military shelled a village in the Esman community. Windows and fences were damaged in the private sector. Shell fragments damaged the walls in the houses. There is also destruction on the premises of the school and the cultural center of the village. A power transmission line has also been ruined. The fire came from barrel artillery, 17 rounds were counted.
Eastern Oblasts
Kharkiv Oblast
Throughout the day, the russian occupiers launched artillery and rocket attacks on the city and the region. The occupiers shelled the Saltivka district of Kharkiv several times with MLRS. Residential high-rise buildings, critical transport infrastructure were damaged. During the day, the occupiers shelled Kharkiv, Izyum, Chuguyiv, and Bogoduhiv raions. After the shelling of Saltivka, the transport infrastructure and garage cooperative were damaged.
In the Izyum district, critical infrastructure was damaged by shelling, and grass burned in open areas.
Yesterday, after 9 p.m., garages and farm equipment were on fire in the Chuguyiv raion as a result of shelling. The enemy is trying to advance near the villages of Lebyazhye and Bazaliivka of the Chuguyiv raion. The occupiers are remotely mining the area near Lebyazhye.
After 11 p.m., a garage and cars were on fire in Zolochiv hromada, Bogoduhiv raion, as a result of shelling.
At around 5 am today, the Defense Headquarters recorded the launch of more than 5 rockets from Belgorod. One of the rockets hit within the Slobidskyi raion of Kharkiv. Rocket strikes damaged residential buildings, and several fires broke out in the Zolochiv community. Earlier in the day in Zolochiv, the occupiers shelled the territory of the lyceum, damaged the football field, destroyed one residential building, and damaged two.
Donetsk Oblast
On the evening of August 16, the occupiers shelled Toretsk with artillery – they hit a private house and injured a whole family of three people, including a 6-year-old child.
Also, during the night, the russians attacked Novodmytrivka in Kostyantynivka hromada — there they damaged the building of the lyceum and 8 private houses, without any casualties.
In the morning, Druzhkivka came under shelling – about 10 private houses were destroyed, there is currently no information about the victims.
In the Donetsk direction, the occupiers continue to focus their efforts on the Bakhmut and Novopavlivka directions. On the Kramatorsk and Avdiivka directions, the enemy is trying to improve the tactical position of the troops.
In the Kramatorsk direction, artillery shelling was recorded near Mykolayivka, Sloviansk, Kramatorsk, Spirne, Verkhnyokamyanske, Ivano-Daryivka, Hryhorivka, and Zvanivka. The enemy was conducting aerial reconnaissance in the Kramatorsk area. Near Spirny, the occupiers decided to go on the offensive, suffered losses and retreated.
The enemy carried out airstrikes in the areas of Maryinka, Krasnohorivka and Yasynuvata, conducted aerial reconnaissance of the BpLA near Krasnohorivka and Opytne. Attempts are being made to carry out assaults in the Opytne area, fighting continues.
On August 16, the russians killed 2 civilians of Donetsk oblast: in Avdiivka and Zaitsevo. 7 more people were injured.
Since February 24, the russians have killed 736 civilians of Donetsk region, injured another 1,912.
Pokrovsk and Pokrovsk Raion
In Avdiivka, there were isolated hits in the old town at night, and in the morning — in the center and in the chemical-recovery plant.
In the Ocheretyne community, Pisky and Nevelske are under fire. The consequences of shelling are being established.
In the Kurakhivka community, the russians targeted an infrastructure object and a private house in Kurakhivka. A man was found under the rubble, a rescue operation is underway.
The past day in the Pokrovsk community was relatively calm. There are no facts about the victims and the destruction for the past 24 hours.
Medical institutions of the Pokrovsk community received generators from the “New Way” charitable foundation.
How Pokrovsk residents live outside the community in Khmelnytsky, Ternopil, Sokal, Chervonohrad, and Lviv. The deputy mayor of Pokrovsk, Oleg Frolov, told about it.
Bahmut
In the direction of Bakhmut, the enemy shelled the districts of Bakhmut, Soledar, Zaytseve, Bilogorivka and Mayorsk. Airstrikes were conducted on civilian infrastructure near Soledar. The russians led offensive and assault actions near Zalizne, Shumy and Zaitseve, had no success, and withdrew their forces. Fighting continues in the Soledar and Bakhmut raion.

Mariupol
The occupiers are providing less and less humanitarian aid to the people of Mariupol. The purpose of such actions is to force residents to go to dangerous work on rubble removal and demining. And also start a covert mobilization.
Now in the city, it is allowed to place “on a special account” cars for which, due to the war, the registration documents were lost, missing or stolen. Thus, the occupiers and collaborators can now appropriate, or in fact simply steal, any car of Mariupol residents who have left.
Luhansk Oblast
In Siverodonetsk, the occupiers do not pay pensions allegedly due to a lack of documents from the applicants.
Over the past night, the enemy launched six artillery barrages and four mortars, and a rocket attack, tried to hit the positions of our troops from tanks and used aviation twice.
In Lysychansk, the former building of the Security Service of Ukraine, where the occupiers organized their headquarters, was destroyed.
A map of humanitarian hubs has been developed for the residents of the Luhansk oblast. You can immediately fill out a Google form to receive humanitarian aid.
Southern regions
Zaporizhzhia Oblast
On August 16th, the occupiers shelled civilian infrastructure in the area of Preobrazhenka, Novoandriivka, Orikhov and Gulyaipole settlements. 18 reports were received about the destruction of civil infrastructure objects. In Orichov, one local woman died. Six people were injured, among them three employees of the energy company who were carrying out repair work.
The Zaporizhia NPP continues to operate with the risk of violating radiation and fire safety standards, the situation remains alarming.
Mykolayiv Oblast
On August 16th, the enemy hit the port infrastructure of Mykolaiv with rockets from the Smerch salvo fire system.
Around 02:00 am.m. on August 17th, the russian invaders fired at Mykolaiv with S-300 missiles. It is known that civilian objects were hit, in particular, the Black Sea National University named after Petro Mohyla and one of the city’s enterprises. Private houses were also damaged.
Yesterday, August 16th, approximately at 9:30 a.m., as a result of enemy shelling of the Pervomaysk community, a public catering facility was destroyed. There are no casualties.
Also, on August 16th at 5:45 p.m., enemy shelling was recorded in the village of Dmytrivka of the Kutsurub community. The hits were mostly in open territory.
Yesterday, approximately at 4:30 p.m., 5:30 p.m. and at night, the village Shiroke of the Shirokiv community came under enemy fire. Hits were on agricultural buildings and the road.
Shelling of the territory and nearby settlements of the Berezneguvat community continues.
Central regions
Kirovohrad Oblast
In the region, air-raid sirens sounded one after the other because of the threat of a missile attack. Currently, the situation in the communities is calm and under control.
High jumper Oleg Doroshchuk from Kirovohrad Oblast made it to the finals of the European Championship.
Kirovohrad Oblast continues to welcome migrants from Donetsk Oblast. Today there were the most of them, since the beginning of mandatory evacuation – more than 200. Large families, mothers with babies, and children brought their pets with them.
Two children – Varvara Khlevytska and Matvii Rozinko, who, with the beginning of Russia’s military aggression, collected funds for body armor for Ukrainian defenders, painted pictures for the “Together to Victory” charity auction organized by the Museum of Art in Kropyvnytskyi. Varvara drew a flowered trident, and Matvii – a savior in the form of a shepherd.
In Adzhamka, Kropyvnytskyi district, volunteers announced the campaign “From the garden to the wounded defenders of Ukraine!”. They collect food for wounded soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine who are being treated in Kropyvnytskyi. You can bring products to the Adzhamka cultural center.

Vinnytsa Oblast
Zhmerinka
In general, the situation in the community is stable. The infrastructure works, and so do the volunteers. Immigrant children were given stationery and backpacks for studying.
Currently, the situation is tense due to the discussion of the expediency and form of training during the war. Parents were divided into “for” and “against” camps. Among other things, Independence Day is being discussed, the majority of citizens believe that on this particular day there will be a special density of enemy shelling.

Khmilnyk and Khmilnytskyi district
Air raid sirens sounded throughout the day. The last day was relatively calm in the Khmelnytskyi community.
720,000 hryvnias were once again directed by the members of the executive committee of the Kalyniv City Council to help military units and law enforcement agencies stationed on the territory of the community. This decision was taken at the regular meeting of the executive committee, which took place on August 16th.
As part of the preparation for the new academic year, special commissions continue to inspect all educational institutions. The regional commission inspected the educational institutions of the Khmelnytskyi district. Readiness at 80%.
In Kozyatyn, children check drivers and sing a popular song, so they want to collect 10,000 hryvnias for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Western Oblasts
Lviv Oblast
Another 315 people arrived in Lviv by two evacuation trains. 747 people were sent from Lviv Oblast to Przemyśl (Poland) by four trains.
Another 14 patients from the Donetsk and Dnipropetrovsk Oblasts were transported to Lviv Oblast by evacuation train for treatment. Among them is one child. The condition of people is assessed as medium and severe.
20,332 people left the country through checkpoints in Lviv Oblast. Instead, 17,923 Ukrainians returned.
Drohobych
In the community, an air alarm siren announced the threat of a missile strike from the territory of belarus. Currently, everything is calm in the region, the danger has not materialized.
An official government delegation from the Czech Republic headed by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic Jaroslav Kurfürst visited Drohobych. The purpose of the visit is to attract investment funds from the Czech Republic for the construction of residential facilities for internally displaced persons living in the Drohobych community. In total, more than 35,000 internally displaced persons are officially registered in Drohobych region, 10,000 of them are children.
The coordinators of AUI “Active Community” continue to prepare the performance and help in the organization of a charity concert to raise funds for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Rivne Oblast
The general situation is relatively calm, as of 17:15 there was one air alarm.
In the Rivne Oblast, internally displaced persons will be able to receive additional payments thanks to the cooperation of the authorities and the non-governmental organization “ACTED”. It is about monetary assistance that can be received by the IDPs who have moved to the Rivne Oblast. The amount of the payment is 2,200 hryvnias for each family member for three months.
In the city of Ostrog in the Rivne Oblast, volunteers prepare goodies for the military. Since February, almost 19,000 cans of stew, cereals, condensed milk and approximately four thousand kilograms of cookies have been sent to the front.
Kamianets-Podilskyi
At night and during the day, air raid alarms were sounded.
Today, members of a special working group discussed the idea of creating an industrial park in the community. The meeting was attended by the mayor, representatives of responsible structural divisions, public activists and businesses, including those relocated. Currently, the direction of work is focused on the selection of a land plot, its intended purpose, the possibility of connecting communications and planning the general concept.
The Center for Social Services for Family, Children and Youth has launched the annual charity event “Getting Children Ready for School”. The action consists in collecting school and sports uniforms, backpacks, stationery and other school supplies. Warm clothes and shoes are also being collected for delivery to children from families in difficult life circumstances and financial complications.
Yesterday, in cooperation with the city organization of the Red Cross Society of Ukraine, 50 children received psychosocial support backpacks. Thanks to the sets of soft and anti-stress toys, educational games contained in the backpack, children will be able to play and spend time with friends and their family.
The coordinator of AUI “Active Community” provided assistance to the local history department of the Central Library System in removing russian-language literature from the soviet period from the assortment.
Chernivtsi Oblast
During the day, an air alert signal sounded in the Chernivtsi oblast but currently, the situation is calm and under control.
Bukovyna conducted the last journey of Heroes who gave their lives for the will and freedom of Ukraine: senior police lieutenant Iryna Gordievich was led to the last journey at the Central Cemetery in Chernivtsi, soldier Anatoly Malorodov in the village of Ivanivka, Dnistrovsky District.
Soldiers from the Klishkovets community received awards for high achievements in military affairs: Vasyl Pernai – Order “For Courage” III degree, Anatoliy Lobodynskyi – badge “Badge of Honor”.
Since the beginning of the war, 2,160 forced migrants have applied to the Chernivtsi regional employment service, of which 344 have already found work.
Preparations for the new school year are underway in Bukovyna. In educational institutions in the region, 847 objects were inspected, which is 98.3% of the total number. According to experts’ conclusions, 670 shelters are ready for operation or are in a state of improvement.
A costume performance festival “PlayForUA” was held in Chernivtsi. During the event, money was collected for quadcopters for the Ukrainian military. In total, more than 135 thousand hryvnias were collected.
In the Kamian community, they started buying winter clothes, boots, and thermal clothing for their compatriots who are currently defending Ukraine.
10-year-old Diana from Zastavna raises money for the Ukrainian army by selling baked goods and jewelry that she makes herself. The girl is helping the Armed Forces of Ukraine so that the war ends as soon as possible and her grandfather, who went missing in the Kyiv region back in March of this year, returns.
Zakarpatska Oblast (Zakarpattia)
Every fifth family that turns to mobile teams in Zakarpattia for help needs psychological support.
Over 14,000 citizens used the help of the employment service in Zakarpattia during martial law.
The salt deposit in Zakarpattia reaches almost 76 hectares. In the near future, the region will become a center for the extraction of rock salt of the second grade.
