55About us: The Active Community Initiative, launched by activists of the Respublika Institute after the Euromaidan (2014), focused on activating and involving Ukrainians in the decision-making process. The goal for 2025 is to activate and involve at least 1% of citizens in decision-making and promoting reforms in Ukraine on a systematic basis for the well-being of Ukrainian communities. Today we work in 30 communities in Ukraine.
Ukraine in brief:
The one hundred fourteenth (114) day of the heroic resistance of the Ukrainian people to a russian military invasion continues.
In the Volyn and Polissya areas, the main efforts of the Armed Forces of the republic of belarus are focused on conducting reconnaissance, engineering equipment positions and protection of the state border. The threat of missile and air strikes remains.
In the Siversky direction, the enemy continues to conduct demonstration actions. The aggressor fired artillery at a unit of the Defense Forces in the border areas of Sumy and Chernihiv oblasts.
In the Kharkiv direction, the enemy’s main efforts are focused on maintaining the occupied borders, preventing the Defense Forces from entering the state border and the rear of a group of troops operating in the Slovyansk direction. The enemy tried to conduct reconnaissance by fighting in the area of the settlement of Kochubiyivka. Our soldiers responded with accurate fire and the enemy retreated.
In the Slovyansk direction, the occupiers are concentrating their main efforts on continuing the offensive on Slovyansk. They are conducting reconnaissance in the area of Krasnopillya, the battle continues. The enemy tried to take full control of the village of Bohorodychne. Ukrainian soldiers successfully repulsed the assault.
Trying to create conditions for the development of the offensive on the city of Slovyansk, the enemy uses artillery in the areas of Dolyna, Krasnopillya, Dibrivny and Vernopilla.
The enemy did not take active action in the Lyman direction.
In the Siverodonetsk direction, the occupiers continue to fire from barrel and jet artillery on units of our troops. Inflicted an air strike on the settlement of Ustynivka. Fighting continues for complete control over the city of Siverodonetsk. The enemy moves in the direction of additional units of jet artillery.
In the Bakhmut direction, the defenders of Ukraine repulsed an enemy assault in the direction of the settlement of Zolote. The enemy retreated. The occupiers tried to advance in the direction of Vasylivka and Berestove. Our soldiers fired and forced the enemy to flee.
No active offensive actions of the enemy were recorded in the Avdiivka, Kurakhiv, Novopavlivka and Zaporizhzhia areas. The enemy launched air strikes near New York, Avdiivka and Pobeda.
In the South Buh direction, the enemy used barrel artillery and jet fire systems in areas of settlements Kulbakino, Mykolaivka, Stepova Dolyna, Murakhivka, Novopavlivske, Shevchenkove, Zorya, Partysanske, Kvitneve, Novohrygorivka, Kiselivka, Kniazivka, Osokorivka, Lupareve and Posad-Pokrovske. Ukrainian aircraft struck at enemy clusters in Kherson, Kakhovka and Beryslav districts of Kherson oblast.
The enemy continues to suffer losses in personnel, weapons and equipment. During the day, in the Donetsk region, soldiers of the Territorial Defense of the Armed Forces of Ukraine shot down a Mi-35M helicopter. There are successes in Zaporizhia as well. In the Kherson oblast, the enemy has significant losses in manpower.
Kyiv
The President of France Macron, the Chancellor of Germany Scholz, the Prime Minister of Italy Draghi and the President of Romania Johannis arrived in the capital. At a press conference with Volodymyr Zelensky, Emanuel Macron noted that all four countries support the urgent granting of Ukraine the status of a candidate for EU membership.
European leaders have also received a full list of sanctions that Ukraine insists on.
A procession of cars with the body of Kyiv activist Roman Ratushny, who died on June 9 in the battles near Izium, passed near Protasov Yar.
Kyiv Oblast
French President Macron, German Chancellor Scholz, Italian Prime Minister Draghi and Romanian President Johannis visited Irpen. This is their first visit to Ukraine since the full-scale invasion.
Demining in the Kyiv region continues. A total of 42,646 explosive devices have been detected and neutralized since the beginning of the works.
Zhytomyr Oblast
Today in the Zhytomyr Oblast enemy troops didn’t carry out military operations.
The military of the Armed Forces of Ukraine controls the north of Zhytomyr Oblast in order to prevent an enemy attack. Representatives of the local Territorial Defense units took part in strengthening the protection of the state border, protection and defense of important objects and communications, ensuring public safety and order in the settlements of Zhytomyr Oblast, guarding the shelters of the population.
At the session of the Zhytomyr Oblast’s Council, awards were presented to the families of two policemen who died in the first days of the full-scale war. The termination of the parliamentary faction of the “Oppositional platform for life” party has been announced. People are massively discussing the elimination by the authorities of the consequences of the missile and bomb strikes of the russia.
Today in Kyiv, orders were presented to rescuers of the Zhytomyr Oblast, who eliminated the consequences of the russian shelling.
The coordinator of AUI “Active Community” organized the collection of humanitarian aid under the project “Women of Poland-Women of Ukraine”.
Chernihiv Oblast
At night there was an air alarm.
A russian serviceman who killed two civilians in the village of Gaivoron has been notified of the suspicion. The russian committed the crime on April 1. One of the killed is a member of the anti-terrorist operation, the other is a local hunter. Before shooting civilians, the suspect kept them in the cellar.
The first modular town for Chernihiv residents left homeless is being set up in the region. All necessary communications will be held there soon. The houses are quite comfortable, but this is only temporary housing for almost 400 people. Rooms are designed for families.
Dobrobat volunteers dismantle the blockages and rebuild the cities and villages of Chernihiv Oblast. Local women feed them.
Sumy Oblast
The russians continue to insidiously shell Sumy Oblast at night. Today, russian troops fired missiles at Sadivska United Territorial Community. The blast was heard in Sumy and half of the district. Four people were killed and at least six were injured.
At about 5 a.m., the russians launched one missile strike on the Krasnopil community. Then the russians opened mortar fire from their territory. Recorded 26 hits. As a result of the shelling, an outbuilding and a car caught fire.
At about 1 p.m., the russian army fired on the Sumy Oblast from rocket-propelled grenade launchers from the Kursk Raion of the russia. The shelling damaged an agricultural facility.
Volunteers continue to dismantle the blockages in Trostyanets and Okhtyrka, which were attacked by russian troops. Now once cozy towns in ruins. Civilians hope to return to normal life. They are afraid of a repeat russian attack.
Eastern Oblasts
Kharkiv Oblast
During the past 24 hours, the russian occupiers continued shelling Kharkiv and settlements in the Kharkiv Oblast. At night, the enemy struck with MLRS on the infrastructure of the Industrial district of Kharkiv. In the Oblast, the occupiers fired on the settlements of Kharkiv, Chuhuiv, Bohodukhiv, Izyum and Loziv Raion.
In the village. Lebyazhe of Chuhuiv Raion , due to shelling, damaged houses and outbuildings. As a result of the russian ammunition, there were fires in Zolochev, as well as damaged farm buildings and cars.
In total, during the day as a result of russian terror against the civilian population of Kharkiv Oblast in Lozova Raion 1 person was injured, in Izyum – 5 civilians were injured.
Fighting continues on the line of contact. In the Kharkiv direction, the enemy is focused on defending the borders. In the Izyum area, the russian occupiers continue their attempts to launch an offensive in the direction of Slavyansk. Defenders hold positions and inflict significant losses on the enemy in manpower and equipment.
Donetsk Oblast
In the Donetsk direction, the enemy is fighting along the line of contact. The main efforts of the enemy are focused on the Bakhmut direction.
Russian missiles again hit the settlements of Donetsk Oblast. This time – Pokrovsk and the village of Grishine.
Two people were injured, at least 14 private houses, a meteorological station and a farm were destroyed and damaged – about three dozen animals died there.
On June 15, the russians killed one civilian in Kostiantynivka. Another 10 civilians in Donetsk Oblast were injured.
In Kostiantynivka, 3 people who were injured in Luhansk Oblast received medical care:
Since the beginning of the russian invasion of Ukraine, 503 civilians have been killed and 1,299 wounded in shelling and bombing in the Donetsk Oblast.
Pokrovsk and Pokrovsk Raion
The occupiers fired on: the cities of Avdiivka, Pokrovsk, Zalizne, village Grishine, Novoselivka, Khrestyshche. Civilians were killed and wounded.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine repulsed the enemy. Representatives of the local Territorial Defense units protected the Pokrovsky community.
The past day in the Pokrov community was restless: shelling took place at night and in the evening. According to the dispatcher of the State Emergency Service, the shells fell in the city and in one of the villages of the community. Damage to 14 private houses (windows, doors, roof) was recorded in Pokrovsk. The building on the territory of one of the city enterprises was destroyed, the building of the meteorological station was damaged, medical care was provided to 2 victims (minor injuries).
On the territory of the farm from Grishino, Pokrovsky community, where the cruise missile hit, 30 animals died.
Two people were wounded in Pokrovsk as a result of enemy shelling on June 15. This was announced by the head of the Donetsk Oblast’s Military Administration Pavlo Kyrylenko.
The situation in the Pokrovsky community is tense – the mood is combative.
Bakhmut
In the Bakhmut direction, russian occupation troops are storming to improve the tactical situation. Artillery shelling was recorded in the areas of the settlements of Vesele, Soledar, Berestove, and Vovchoyarivka:

Mariupol
The occupiers are building fortification lines. The occupiers also began building a five-story building near the exit to Manhush. Some of the apartments will likely be given to the russian military and collaborators. Temporary concrete one-story buildings such as a hostel with rooms for eight people and tents are being prepared for civilians. However, this is not enough for so many people who have been left homeless by the russians.
The russian occupiers continue to demolish houses and destroy evidence of their crimes. People are warned about the eviction, but Mariupol residents continue to live even in entrances with the terrible consequences of the war. Make rounds on each apartment. Closed doors are knocked out for “inspection.” It is a new wave of looting under the auspices of the occupying power.
Luhansk Oblast
The russian army destroyed almost 11 300 houses in the Luhansk Oblast; 3188 of them were high-rise buildings. Popasna and Rubizhne were actually destroyed. The russians are destroying Severodonetsk, Lysychansk, Hirske, Zolote, and smaller settlements. 113 schools and 38 hospitals, 17 buildings of universities were damaged, 479 industrial enterprises were closed down.
Today, the russian military launched an air strike on Lysychansk. They hit one of the buildings where people were hiding. At least three people were killed, and seven were injured. Rescuers dismantle the debris. The night in Severodonetsk was spent in battles for every house. The russians are gathering even more weapons, attacking from several directions. About 500 people remain in the Azot Plant bomb shelters. Due to the density of shelling, communication with the company is unstable.
A reporter from Slovakia, who visited Lysychansk, described what he saw in the report. The city has no electricity, water, gas, gasoline, or cellular communications. Soldiers complain that residents refuse to leave, risking not only their own lives but the lives of the military. At the same time, there is only one relatively safe way to the city.
Southern oblasts
Zaporizhzhia Oblast
The situation in the Oblast remains alarming. Air alarms are often heard.
Last night, the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in the Zaporizhzhia direction destroyed seven 2c3 ACS “Acatsia” units, two enemy ammunition depots, one enemy position, and one enemy observation post.
On June 15th, the russian military fired on the civilian infrastructure of Orikhiv. As a result of the shelling, private homes of residents were destroyed.
On June 16th, russian invaders targeted civilian infrastructure in the village of Lukianivske (Vasylivsky Raion). As a result, administrative and warehouse premises and a farm hangar were destroyed. Agricultural machinery located on the territory of the enterprise was also damaged.
It became known that the russian shelling destroyed a unique institution for children with hearing impairments, located in the village of Kamyanske near Vasylivka. Kamyanka boarding school taught and rehabilitated children with special educational needs who did not have the opportunity to study in secondary schools (kindergartens, schools). There were groups for preschool children with hearing impairments and severe developmental disabilities. The history of the institution began in 1962. It employed unique specialists: deaf educators, speech therapists, and special education teachers.
The Department of Agrarian Development of the Zaporizhzhia Oblast Military Administration announced that up to 300 000 tons of wheat are planned to be harvested in the territory of the Zaporizhzhia Oblast controlled by Ukraine. Instead, the russian occupiers continue to export grain from the occupied territories. In addition, they steal sunflower seeds from elevators and harvest cherries and seasonal vegetables from farmers.
Illegal actions against the local population continue in the occupied territories. In particular, the russians continue to commit war crimes: kidnapping people, raping women and looting houses.
Mykolaiv Oblast
As of June 16th, since the start of the full-scale war, on February 24th, russian occupation troops have damaged and completely destroyed 4941 civilian objects in the Mykolaiv Oblast.
During the day on June 15th, the armed forces of russian partially damaged or completely destroyed 54 non-military objects in the territory of Mykolaiv Oblast.
On the night of June 16th, the russian occupation troops fired one of the residential quarters of Mykolaiv with cluster shells.
Odesa Oblast
The day in the community was peaceful.
The danger of rocket fire remains. The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) are conducting exercises. Local Territorial Defense units equip fortifications to defend the Oblast.
People are united and active; they volunteer. Mayor Gennadiy Trukhanov, in an interview with National Public Radio, predicted that according to preliminary estimates, due to russia’s military aggression, the city budget of Odesa will receive about 1 billion 800 million hryvnias.
The coordinator of the AUI “Active Community” provided information to citizens on receiving psychological, informational, and humanitarian assistance.
Central oblasts
Kirovohrad Oblast
An air raid was announced – there was a missile strike threat.
The AFU guarded the borders of the Oblast. Local Territorial Defense units conducted tactical exercises.
The Head of Kirovohrad Oblast State Administration, Andriy Raikovych, emphasizes that it is necessary to increase the pace of economic growth and prepare the entire infrastructure of housing and communal services for work in the autumn-winter period. Educational institutions must be prepared to work in the new school year.
People in the community work, helping the AFU and IDPs.
In general, the situation is calm and controlled. Two families of internally displaced doctors were recently provided official housing in Kropyvnytskyi.
The AUI “Active Community” coordinator took part in weaving camouflage nets.
Poltava Oblast
Air alarms were heard in Poltava at night.
In Poltava Oblast, a system of notifications using Cell broadcast technology will be tested. Such an alert will promptly inform the public about the threat of emergencies.
Four traitors from Donetsk Oblast were convicted in Poltava Oblast. At the end of February this year, the men joined the so-called “people’s militia” of the self-proclaimed DNR and served in one platoon as a platoon commander, grenade launcher, grenade launcher assistant, and sniper. Later, as part of an illegal armed group, the criminals fought in the Sumy Oblast. The traitors were sentenced to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.
The Head of the Poltava Oblast Military Administration, Dmytro Lunin, said that a meeting was held with the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Kharkiv Afghan Salmanov. Valery Parkhomenko, First Deputy Mayor, Tetyana Tatarina, Director of the Institute for Urban Development, and Mykola Shevelyov, Chief Architect of the City, met with experts of the Council of Europe project “Strengthening Public Participation in the Democratic Decision-Making Process in Ukraine.” The participants of the meeting discussed the issue of renaming streets, squares, boulevards, and alleys of the Poltava community with the involvement of the public.
Athletes from Poltava Oblast won another medal at the World Paragliding Championships in Portugal: Denys Ostapchenko won the bronze medal in the 50-meter freestyle; Oleksiy Virchenko won a bronze medal in the 100-meter backstroke.
Today, the AUI “Active Community” team is holding an art-therapeutic event for the IDPs’ families who moved to Poltava during the war.
Vinnytsia
Khmilnyk
An air-raid siren sounded constantly throughout the day.
The situation on the territory of Khmilnyk community is under control. Urban infrastructure companies operate on a full-time basis.
The pyrotechnic team of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Vinnytsia Oblast carried out work to destroy 29 munitions.
Among the detected: artillery shells caliber 122, 88, 76, 45 mm in the amount of 19 pieces and 8 mortar mines caliber 82 and 120 mm in Plyakhova Glukhovetskaya territorial community of Khmilnyk district.
Western regions
Rivne
The general situation is relatively calm, one air alert has been announced.
Soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine patrol the border with Belarus. Representatives of the Terror Defense are patrolling and on duty at checkpoints.
Rivne Regional Military Administration informs daily about the availability of fuel at gas stations in Rivne region.
Yuriy Kubay, who died in the Luhansk region, paid his last respects in Rivne. A 37-year-old man served as a sniper. His life ended on June 10 near the village of Komyshuvakha.
In the Rivne region, 965 new enterprises and sole proprietors started business under martial law.
Public utilities of Rivne community work as usual.
13-year-old Victoria from Rivne makes “khvyriks” – toys from fur, polymer clay and pastels. And part of the proceeds from the sale of such “furry” transfers to the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Zdovbytsia
The general situation in the community is calm.
Today, more than 350 internally displaced persons live in the community.
Representatives of the local defense forces continue to stand guard at checkpoints.
Deputies from one of the parties sent a car for soldiers to the hot spot. They handed over power banks, tactical gloves, chocolates, canned food, medicines, hygiene products, water systems, cigarettes, karate, sleeping bag, and backpack. The village council provided food kits to internally displaced persons.
Local volunteers prepare snacks for the soldiers. The school also weaves nets for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The coordinator of the Active Community VI held a master class together with a local cafe to prepare pizza for children of internally displaced persons.
Khmelnytsky
Kamianets-Podilskyi
There was one air alarm.
The Khmelnytsky Regional Council has introduced a moratorium on the public use of Russian-language cultural products in any form in the Khmelnytsky region.
Kamianets-Podilskyi City Council has announced a tourist photo contest, which will result in the release of a photo album to present the city at the national and international levels.
People who came to Kamianets-Podilskyi during the war decided to thank the residents of the city through a billboard with the words: “Thank you for the open doors and hearts.” However, the city’s entrepreneurs made and installed billboards for free.
Today, the coordinators of AUI “Active Community” were able to find the owner of another painting from the exhibition “Buy a picture – support the Armed Forces.” Now 4,500 hryvnias are directed to the improvement of the medical machine for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and the painting will go to Munich.
Chernivtsi
Currently, active hostilities are not taking place in the region, the situation is calm.
In Bukovyna, 1,769 internally displaced persons applied to the Chernivtsi Regional Employment Service. As of June 16, 2022, 578 migrants have the status of unemployed, 239 – employed.
Immigrants from three dormitories in Chernivtsi received help from the charity HelpAge International. Half a thousand IDPs, including the elderly, distributed food.
Another cargo from Bukovyna has arrived at the positions of units of two military units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine defending Ukrainian land in various regions of our state. Volunteer drivers Myroslav Babiy and Konstantin Yarmiychuk delivered fresh fruits, vegetables, canned food, military equipment, medicines, personal hygiene items to the boys and girls.
In Chernivtsi, instead of various clothes and dresses, military ammunition – chevrons, first aid kits, raincoats, burdens – is sewn instead of various clothes and dresses. According to the director of the school Olesya Nikishina, everyone was involved in the work – teachers, students, even their parents.
In Novodnistrovsk the conversational club “With Ukraine in the heart” started working. The native language is taught here by IDPs from different regions of Ukraine – Kharkiv, Kherson, Mykolayiv, Luhansk, Mariupol, etc. Locals are also improving their skills.
Zakarpattia oblast
The day passed calmly. There was no military action in the region.
In Zakarpattia, since the beginning of martial law, 53 couples of servicemen have married under a simplified procedure.
Transcarpathia has chosen 305 companies from other regions to restart their capacities, which is almost half of all those relocated across Ukraine.
A vaccination campaign for the immunization of internally displaced persons has started in Uzhhorod. The mobile team started from the medical center of one of the dormitories where migrants live.
