About us: The Active Community Initiative, launched by activists of the Respublika Institute after the Euromaidan (2014), focused on activating and involving Ukrainians in the decision-making process. The goal for 2025 is to activate and involve at least 1% of citizens in decision-making and promoting reforms in Ukraine on a systematic basis for the well-being of Ukrainian communities. Today we work in 30 communities in Ukraine.

Ukraine in brief:

The one hundred nineteenth (119) day of the heroic resistance of the Ukrainian people to a russian military invasion continues. 

In the Volyn and Polissya areas, the situation has not changed significantly.

In the Siversky direction, the enemy used artillery shelling to attack the areas of the settlements of Turya, Myropilske and Slavgorod in the Sumy region.

In the Slobozhansky direction, the enemy is trying to improve the tactical position of its units near the town of Slovyansk by storming. It used barrel and jet artillery in the areas of Bohorodychne, Nova Dmytrivka, Novopavlivka, Kurulka, Dolyna, Pryshyb, Krasnopillya, Vernopillya, Ridne, Chervone, Shnurky, Chervona Polyana, Karnaukhivka, Velyka Komyshuvakha, Nova Dmytrivka and Semylanne.

In the Kharkiv direction, the enemy is fighting to deter units of the Defense Forces and prevent them from entering the state border. It carried out artillery shelling in the areas of Kharkiv, Bayrak, Peremoha, Korobochkyne, Shevelivka, Rubizhne, Lebyazhe, Mospanove, Shestakove, Petrivka, Ruska Lozova, Khrestyshche, Kulynychi, Udy, Staryi Saltiv, Verkhniy Saltiv, Pytomnyk, Rtyshchivka and Pechenehy.

In the Donetsk direction, the occupying forces are trying to advance towards the city of Bakhmut and establish control over the city of Siverodonetsk.

In the Siverodonetsk direction, the enemy launched air strikes in the areas of Verkhnyokamyanka, Siverodonetsk and Syrotyne. Fighting continues for the city of Siverodonetsk.

In the Bakhmut direction, the enemy carried out air strikes in the areas of the settlements of Berestove, Yakovlivka, Klynove and Vershyna, and air and missile strikes near Chasiv Yar, Novoluhansk and Hirske.

The enemy did not conduct active offensive operations in the Kramatorsk direction. It fired at the positions of the Defense Forces with artillery in the Pryshyb, Sydorove, Donetske and Mayaky districts.

In the Avdiivka, Kurakhiv, Novopavliv and Zaporizhzhia directions, the enemy continues to systematically fire in order to prevent the transfer of units of the Defense Forces to other directions.

The enemy launched air strikes near Novobakhmutivka, Kamyanka, Avdiivka, Pavlivka, Vuhledar and Shevchenko.

In the area of ​​Novobakhmutivka, our soldiers repulsed the assault and forced the enemy to withdraw.

In the South Buh direction, the enemy, with the engineering equipment of the positions, fire from barrel and jet artillery, is trying to prevent the advance of units of our troops into the occupied territory.

Northern Oblasts

Kyiv

The capital is relatively calm, but the top military leadership does not deny the possibility of a repeat russian offensive. Lieutenant General of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Pavliuk believes that the occupiers plan to create strike groups in Kyiv and Chernihiv oblasts.

On the eve of the decision to grant Ukraine the status of a candidate for EU membership, official visits are taking place. The Prime Minister of Luxembourg Xavier Bethel arrived in Kyiv yesterday.

Ukrainians who have suffered from Russian aggression can receive compensation of up to 30,000 euros through the European Court of Human Rights.

Kyiv Oblast

The Prime Minister of Luxembourg Xavier Bethel visited Borodyanka, Bucha and Irpin.

Demining continues. Over the past 24hrs, pyrotechnics have neutralized 335 explosive devices. In all, that number has reached more than 44,000.

The organization “Reporters Without Borders” has investigated and alleges that photojournalist Max Levin and serviceman Alexei Chernyshov, who died on March 13 in the Kyiv region, were executed by the russian military. Investigators said they found a bullet in the ground where Levin’s body lay. The bullet was probably fired “when he was already on the ground”. A can of gasoline was found near the place where Chernyshov’s body was found burnt.

Zhytomyr Oblast

A soldier from the Andrushivka community died defending Ukraine in battles with the occupiers.

People are massively discussing the ratified Istanbul Convention and its implementation in Ukraine.

In the Zhytomyr Oblast, almost 200 IDPs were employed from among those who registered with the employment service. A 55-year-old man who traded in ammunition was detained in Zhytomyr Oblast.

The coordinator of the AUI “Active Community” established contacts with representatives of the Zhytomyr City Council on holding an art therapy event for children on June 28.

Chernihiv Oblast

As a result of three missile strikes by the russian military on June 13 near Pryluky, a special commission recorded damage to 14 one-story buildings with outbuildings and one two-story dormitory with a garage. The degree of damage varies, but the blast mostly affected roofs and windows. 

On the Chernihiv bypass road, the dismantling of the rubble of the blown-up bridge across the Desna river on the Kyiv-Chernihiv-Novi Yarylovychi road near Shestovytsia is being completed. The contractor dismantled the reinforced concrete structures of the girder structure and supporting parts of the bridge.

Charitable aid in the form of 144 bicycles arrived in the Chernihiv Oblast from the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Soon they will be handed over to doctors, educators and critical infrastructure workers.

Due to heavy rain, wind and thunderstorms in Chernihiv Oblast, 27 settlements were left without electricity.

The volunteer initiative “Repair Together” calls on volunteers through social networks and takes them from Kyiv to the liberated villages of Ukraine for joint cleaning. In this way, they help locals put in order what is left of their destroyed homes. This time they went to Chernihiv Oblast, to the villages of Lukashivka and Yagidne, which were occupied by the russian military in the spring for about a month.

Sumy Oblast

At night and in the morning, the enemy fired mortars at the Esman and Novoslobodsk communities. 20 hits were recorded.

As a result of yesterday’s shelling of the Krasnopillia community, six people were injured. Two of them are in critical condition in hospital. There were 42 hits across the community. Houses, outbuildings, a school, a village council, and a park were damaged. The russians also attacked the community with kamikaze drones.

Eastern Oblasts

Kharkiv Oblast

Yesterday, shelling by russian troops killed 15 people in Kharkiv. Another 16 were injured.

In Kharkiv, Slobidsky and Industrial districts were hit by shelling at night. Commercial and industrial facilities were damaged, there were several large-scale fires. The shelling of the Nemyshlyany district of Kharkiv has been going on since the morning.

Also at night, the russians continued shelling Chuhuiv. Residential and farm buildings were destroyed.

An apartment building in the village of Zolochiv was damaged. The body of 1 victim was removed from the rubble. Rescue operations are currently underway, there is a possibility that 2 more people are under the rubble.

In the village of Shevchenkove, one person was injured in a russian shelling last night.

At the line of contact, the enemy fires from barrel and jet artillery. In the Kharkiv direction, the occupiers conduct air reconnaissance. In the area of Izium, the enemy continues to storm in the direction of Sloviansk. The Ukrainian military holds the defense. The russian occupiers suffer heavy losses. 

Donetsk Oblast

Since the beginning of the russian invasion of Ukraine, 516 civilians have been killed and 1,352 wounded in shelling and bombing in the Donetsk Oblast.

On June 21, the russians killed one civilian in the Donetsk Oblast – in Chasovyi Yar. Another 15 people were injured today.

Kramatorsk

No enemy action was recorded in the city.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine and the local Territorial Defense unite prepare to meet the enemy.

The local authorities have announced a temporary solution to the problem of water supply in some areas of the city by installing taps with technical water.

In general, the situation is alarming. Recently, Kramatorsk was singled out in official reports as a separate direction of the enemy’s offensive. This has significantly increased panic among the population.

The coordinator of the AUI “Active Community” organized a screening of a film for children with disabilities.

Pokrovsk and Pokrovsk Raion

During the day the enemy fired on settlements. Avdiivka suffered 8 blows. Kurakhove, Krasnohorivka, and Ocheretyne also came under fire.

The past day in the Pokrovsk community was relatively calm. No casualties or damage were reported.

Vulnerable segments of the population of the Lysiv starostynsky district of the Pokrovsk community received food from a charity organization.

Novogrodivka community (Pokrovsk Raion) received humanitarian aid from Spain.

Humanitarian cargo, which includes baby food, clothing and toys, has already been assigned for further distribution.

Leaders of the Pokrovsk community met with representatives of the Norwegian Refugee Council and briefed them on the current situation in the community. Issues of cooperation in providing humanitarian aid to people affected by the war and internally displaced persons were also discussed.

Bakhmut

In the Donetsk direction, the enemy continues to focus its efforts on the Severodonetsk and Bakhmut directions in order to reach the administrative borders of Luhansk Oblast. In order to strengthen, in the Bakhmut direction, the enemy regrouped troops.

Six injured children are the result of yesterday’s shelling of Chasov Yar (Bakhmut Raion ). The russians struck a beach on Lake Zolota Rybka, which is within the city limits. According to preliminary information, cluster shells were used.

In total as a result of shelling 1 person (mother of two children) was lost, 11 were wounded.

Ukrainian soldiers in the direction of Myronivka – Semigirya repulsed the assault on Uglehirskaya Territorial Community. They also stopped the offensive in the direction of Molodizhne – Katerynivka. The enemy retreated.

The AUI Active Community Coordinator provided advice to citizens on obtaining humanitarian assistance.

Mariupol

The occupiers continue to demolish houses. The russians are building fortifications next to the modular buildings. In this way, they create a “living shield” of civilians.

The russians are renaming city facilities. Peace Avenue is now Lenin Avenue. Kuindzhi Street is Artema Street. Mangush village (historical name is associated with the Greeks deported from the Crimea) – Pervomaiskoe.

During the invasion, the occupiers burned hundreds of public transport vehicles, and now they are celebrating the delivery of several russian buses to Mariupol.

Luhansk Oblast

The russians are transporting equipment and personnel from other destinations to the Luhansk Oblast. In the battles for Toshkivka, the occupiers used 30 armored personnel carriers, 10 tanks and other equipment. The russians are already gaining ground in Ustynivka, Pidlisne and Myrna Dolyna, and are attacking Bila Hora.

The industrial zone of Severodonetsk is under Ukrainian control. There are 7-8 thousand locals left in the city. The russians deported other people to the temporarily occupied territories of Luhansk Oblast. The enemy opened fire again on the villages of Synetsky and Pavlograd, on the already destroyed bridges and twice on “Azot”.

The russians are approaching Lysychansk, gaining a foothold in nearby settlements. The city is shelled by aircraft.

It is difficult in the mountain direction. Over the past 24hrs, nine houses were destroyed in Hirsky, seven in Zolotyi, and 12 in Novoivanivka.

Southern Oblast

Zaporizhzhia Oblast

During the day in the Zaporizhzhia Oblast, shelling of civilian infrastructure by the eussian military was recorded in the areas of the settlements of Gulyaipole, Orikhiv, Tavriyske, and Novoyakovlivka.

Russian invaders destroyed a medical clinic in the village of Kamyanske, Vasylivka district. The building is not subject to restoration.

Near the occupied Tokmak, the russian military dismantled and removed the largest solar power plant in Ukraine. According to local residents, the methodical robbery of the solar power plant lasted for several months.

To steal grain, the russian occupiers drove a train to Melitopol and cleared the waters of the Berdyansk port. In addition, local residents report that numerous explosions continue to be heard in Berdyansk.

During the day, on June 21, the civilian population was evacuated from the temporarily occupied territory. 1,362 people were evacuated, 349 of them children. In total, about 75,000 IDPs remained in Zaporizhia. For children from such families, as well as for young Cossacks who find themselves in difficult life circumstances, a free summer vacation will be organized.

The AUI Active Community team held an art therapy event for children of internally displaced persons. During the event, girls and boys made Japanese paper dolls in colorful kimonos.

Kherson Oblast 

The Ukrainian army has tactical successes and is advancing in the Kherson Oblast. Inflicts accurate blows on the enemy.

In the temporarily occupied Chornobayivka, Turulyov’s collaborator, who “headed” the city, was blown up. He received minor injuries.

The humanitarian situation in the temporarily occupied territories is difficult. There is an extreme lack of medicine. The occupiers are pressuring educators and doctors to cooperate with the occupiers. Activists and journalists are being abducted.

The occupying “power” continues to promote propaganda about the entry of the Kherson region into russia. But every day more and more Ukrainian flags and inscriptions appear in the region that Kherson is Ukraine.

Mykolayiv Oblast

As a result of yesterday’s shelling in the region, 18 people were injured.

This afternoon the russian occupiers launched across Mykolaiv seven rockets. 5 high-rise buildings were damaged. They had windows blown away by debris and a blast wave, and some had damaged the front door to the entrance. 8 private houses were destroyed.

As a result of the shelling, dry grass was burning in two areas. Fire on a total area of ​​260 square meters were extinguished by rescuers of the SES. Another fire broke out on the territory of a private enterprise where sunflower oil was stored. It is currently known about 4 wounded.

Pyrotechnics work in the l Mykolaiv area. Over the past 24hrs, 18 explosive devices have been neutralized. Most of the ammunition was collected in wheat and barley fields.

Central Oblasts 

Dnipropetrovsk Oblast

The enemy fired at various communities in the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast several times with various weapons. Apostolic and Zelenodolsk communities were affected.

As a result of today’s arrivals in Velyka Kostroma, the house of culture, the village council and the territory of the central square of the city, four shops, a garage, power lines and a gas pipeline were damaged. There is no light or gas in the village. 

Last night, the occupiers fired on the village of Shesternya in the Shirokiv community. They aimed at residential buildings, on the roof of one of which a cluster munition was found after the shelling. A fire, approximately 3.5 hectares, occurred near the settlement as a result of the shelling. The fire was neutralized. Instructors of the Dnip Hospitallers utility company continue to conduct tactical medicine trainings for civilians. Dnipropetrovsk Oblast has already sheltered more than 300,000 migrants.

Of these, 268,000 officially have the status of internally displaced persons. In May alone, about 450 million UAH were allocated for the region’s migrants. From the first day of the war, IDP support centers were established in each community. There, the evacuees are provided with humanitarian aid, treatment, children are placed in school and offered jobs. At the same time, ordinary residents of the region also sheltered almost 22,000 IDPs. They accommodated people from “hot” regions at home for free.

The AUI Active Community Regional Coordinator helped the elderly and disseminated news useful to Kyiv Oblast residents.

Kirovohrad Oblast

An air raid was announced – there was a threat of a missile strike.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine guarded the region’s borders and military facilities.

Local Territorial Defense units conducted tactical exercises. The situation in the community is calm and controlled.

Serhiy Shulha, the chairman of the Kirovohrad Regional Council, has become the head of the coordination council, which will be involved in the formation of volunteer forces in the Kirovohrad Oblast. A fourth-year student of the Kropyvnytskyi Engineering Vocational College of the Central Ukrainian National Technical University defended his dissertation at the forefront to the sounds of explosions.

The regional center of folk art invites the people of Kropyvnytskyi to a charity photo shoot on June 24. Maksym Vlasenko, a member of the Union of Photo Artists of Ukraine, will hold a photo session, after which a slide film will be created and presented from his works. Everyone will have the opportunity to take a photo in national costume in a specially created ethnophoto zone. Immigrant families are also invited to participate.

 The AUI Active Community Coordinator provided advice to IDP on obtaining documents on the status of internally displaced persons, as well as information on the available resources of employers of the regional center and surrounding communities.

Poltava Oblast

Everything is calm in the oblast. Volunteers and citizens continue to help the Armed Forces and war-affected citizens.

Olena Tsuber from Poltava makes eco-bags. With the proceeds from the sale, she buys fabric for camouflage nets, which she then weaves for the defenders of Ukraine. In total, she has already sewn more than 30 bags.

Poltava resident Bohdan Oleksienko won a bronze medal at the European Under-17 Wrestling Championships.

Team AUI “Active Community” Poltava is preparing for an art therapy event for families of internally displaced persons who came to Poltava.

Vinnytsia Oblast

Khmilnyk and Khmilnyk Raion

Air alarm signals were heard in Khmilnyk and Khmilnyk raion during the day.

The day in the Khmilnyk community passed quietly.

Kalinov community of Khmilnyk raion received the necessary equipment from “U-LEAD with Europe” for comfortable living of migrants.

Another kindergarten will resume work in one of the settlements of the Kalinov community in the Vinnytsia oblast. One of the conditions for opening a preschool was the availability of shelter, where preschoolers will be during the air alarm.

Western Oblasts

Rivne Oblast

The general situation is relatively calm, as of 16:30 there were no air alarms.

Soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine patrol the border with Belarus. Representatives of the Territorial Defense patrol and are on duty at checkpoints.

Today, the head of the Rivne Oblast Military Administration together with the Chairman of the Board of PJSC “Rivneoblenergo” Serhiy Nevmerzhytsky handed over 45 bulletproof vests of the fourth class of protection and 45 Kevlar helmets to the defence units of the Sarny raion. All uniforms are certified and tested.

Today in the Sarny raion the assault actions and the maintenance of the defence of the settlement were practised. This was announced by the head of the Rivne Oblast Military Administration Vitaliy Koval during a working visit to the oblast’s border. 

Streets in the Vara community in the Rivne oblast are being renamed. They do this as part of the de-russification process. Six new names have already been chosen and must be approved by the city council. There are six more in line. Residents of the community offer their names as public discussions continue.

AUI Active Community coordinators prepared for future events – negotiated with partners, talked to and invited citizens who currently live in Rivne to participate in the events.

Khmelnytsky Oblast

Kamianets-Podilskyi

Today, during the day, the people of Kamyanets-Podilskyi lay flowers at memorials and monuments in honour of all the victims of the war in Ukraine.

Yesterday, 36 residents of Luhansk, Zaporizhia, Mykolaiv oblasts and Slovyansk found shelter in the community.

Together with the Kamyanets-Podilsky Diocese of the Roman Catholic Church and the Red Cross Society of Ukraine, local authorities are working on a project for the Center for Medical and Social Rehabilitation in the Old Town. Namely – in a theological seminary, which is a monument of the 18th century. The project provides medical, rehabilitation and social services, including to war veterans and people affected by the war.

Payments of about 7 million hryvnias “suspended” in the treasury. Although they are funded by the budget. This is mainly the payment for various services, including food for IDPs.

The Department of Education and Science works with the preparation of shelters in educational institutions for the launch of the educational process in the fall. And also with the heads of other institutions – on the possibility of using their storage.

The mayor gave the task to analyze the responsible structural units of the issue of summer rehabilitation of children, and whether such actions are possible at all now. AUI Active Community coordinators held an art therapy session with children and parents in the Euromaidan Heroes Park. Balloons were glued today, as Kamyanets-Podilsky is one of the centres of aeronautics in Ukraine.

Zakarpattia Oblast

The Zakarpattia Oblast Employment Service currently has more than 800 current vacancies. In Zakarpattia, the demand for manufacturing professions has grown. The most popular are seamstresses, cooks, plait knitters and drivers.

The All-Ukrainian mobile philatelic exhibition “The Unbreakable, Unconquered Cossack Spirit of the Ukrainian People” was opened in Uzhhorod on June 21.

As of June 22, 2022, 84 employers received a positive decision from the Zakarpattia Oblast Employment Center to employ more than 190 internally displaced persons. The number of migrants living in budget institutions of Zakarpattia free of charge has almost halved. As of mid-June, almost 7,000 internally displaced persons live in budget institutions in the Zakarpattia oblast. At the end of April, 13.2 thousand people were accommodated in institutions.
