Ukraine in Brief:

Day eightieth of Ukrainian people’s heroic struggle agains the russian military invasion goes on.

There has been no change in the north of Ukraine with no active enemy action reported.

In Kharkiv direction, the invaders have been focussing on the keeping of their objectives, controlling supply routes along auto roads to the north and east from Kharkiv as well as preventing our troops from advancing towards the national border.

In the direction of Donetsk, the enemy task force is continuing with its main efforts of preparing for an offensive towards Severodonetsk, Soledar and Bakhmut, re-stocking supplies and re-grouping its units. The enemy is storming along the line of contact supported by its air and artillery force, has some success in the area of Avdiyivka.

In Mariupol, the enemy continues blockading our units in and around Azovstal Mill area. It is dealing massive artillery and air strikes and launching storm attacks.

In the direction of Zaporizhzhya, the enemy has been focussing its efforts on shelling of our positions.

There have been no substantial changes of situation in the Mykolayiv Oblast. The aggressor has been concentrating on keeping the stated objectives, carrying out reconnaissance, re-stocking munitions and fuel and lubricant materials, engineering installation – and using artillery to shell the positions of our troops.

The enemy has been trying to amass military presence on the Zmiyinyi Island beefing up its air defence systems.

Russian troops continue destroying the civil infrastructure of Ukraine on purpose by launching missile and air bomb strikes and shelling population centres in the Donetsk, Odesa, Luhansk and Kharkiv Oblasts.

In the temporarily occupied territories in the east and south of Ukraine, the enemy attempts luring Ukraine nationals into work with occupation institutions and illegal enforcement formations thus violating their rights and freedoms.

Northern Oblasts

Kyiv

As of the beginning of russia’s full-scale aggression, some 400 buildings, a half of them residential, have been damaged in Kyiv. According to Kyiv City State Administration, the restoration of the infrastructure will cost about 80 million Euro.

The rescuers from the Kyiv Rescue Service continue dealing with aftermath of rf’s military aggression in the capital. Rescue and salvage operations have been carried out today on a residential building in the Darnitskyi Distric damaged by the downed missile fragments.

Kyiv is keeping its diplomatic efforts. Some 38 diplomatic missions have renewed their operation in the capital. President Zelenskyi has had a meeting with US Senate delegation with the Republican leader at its head today.

De-russification of the capital goes on. The Kyiv Civty Council has renamed the Arch of Friendship of People for the Arch of Freedom of the Ukrainian People. The local MPs have also approved a list of more than 40 monuments and plaques to be taken down from streets and buildings in the capital. These will be transferred to the Museum of Totalitarianism.

Kyiv Oblast

Mine-clearing operations in the Oblast continue. The professionals have rendered safe 482 explosive devices within the past 24 hours. Some 32,640 UXOs have been defused since the beginning of the works.

UkrZaliznytsia, a national railway operator, has transferred to Irpin its special sleeping cars to accommodate those who have lost their home.

There are huge lines at petrol pumping stations of the Oblast because of dire fuel deficit.

Zhytomyr Oblast

Some 84 IDPs have landed jobs in the Oblast via the employment service. They have become employed mostly with a clinic, garment factories, post offices, utility enterprises etc. A total of 513 IDPs have registered in the Oblast.

Chernihiv Oblast

Russians continue shelling the border areas of the Chernihiv Oblast. The border guards have registered mortar fires at 01.30 am and 06.30 am in the Semenivskyi Raion. The enemy fire is coming from the russian village of Lomakivka, Bryansk Oblast. No casualties to date. Russia is also relentless in continuing air reconnaissance missions over the Oblast.

Restoration works continue in the Oblast. The infrastructure ruined by invaders is being repaired on a daily basis.

A report on facilities ruined because of combat actions has been compiled by the Chernihiv Oblast Military Administration. The tally stands at around 3.5 thousand buildings, 80% them residential. The local government is currently looking for foreign nations and private companies ready to join the restoration of the city of Chernihiv.

Sumy Oblast

Russians dealt a missile strike of the border Shostka Raion yesterday. Five explosions were heard.

The mine-clearing activity continues in the Oblast. Seven UXOs, among them artillery and rocket projectiles, a hand grenade and a grenade launcher projectile, have been rendered safe by blast technicians in the past 24 hours.

A counselling centre to assist those under stress in the wartime is operating in Shostka. It offers free services to those suffering from panic attacks, anxiety and regular stress.

Eastern Oblasts

Kharkiv Oblast

Yesterday the situation in Kharkiv was relatively calm. The enemy focused their forces on the positions of the Ukrainian army and other communities in Oblast. Chuhuiv, Derhachi, Zolochiv and Lozova are under shelling.

In Kharkiv, “Ukrposhta” and “Nova Poshta” branches provide humanitarian aid to the locals. Also within the President’s program framework, residents of Kharkiv Oblast can receive a food package once a month after applying via a chatbot.

Donetsk Oblast

Ukrainian soldiers have repulsed 10 enemy attacks in Donetsk and Luhansk Oblasts over the past 24 hours. Five tanks, five artillery systems, six units of armored combat vehicles and seven enemy cars were destroyed.

Yesterday, May 13th, the occupiers killed another civilian in Donetsk Oblast. It happened in Avdiivka. Another 12 people were injured as a result of russian shelling.

Since the beginning of the aggressor’s invasion of Ukraine, 357 civilians have been killed and 1,050 wounded during shelling and bombing in Donetsk Oblast. The number of russian victims in Mariupol and Volnovakha is currently unknown.

Kramatorsk 

No hostilities have been reported in the city, but the situation remains alarming.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) and the Territorial Defense Forces are preparing to meet the enemy.

The food issue is getting worse in the villages. Even a small delay in the payment of pensions creates problems for the elderly.

The AUI “Active Community” coordinator took part in distribution of food kits in the villages. In total, about 700 kits were given to people.

Volnovakha

Today, as well as throughout the week, it is very loud in the city. The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) are advancing. There are active hostilities.

Pro-russian collaborators from the local authorities, or the so-called “henchmen” of the current occupation authorities, used to sing the Ukrainian anthem, and are now happily hanging out the flag of the invaders.

In general, the situation is tense. It is almost impossible for people to get to their homes, and it is unrealistic to leave the occupied territories. People are trying to survive, but the situation is getting even more difficult.

The AUI “Active Community” coordinator planted trees and flowers in Uman and found an opportunity for the kindergarten used as a settlement for IDPs to pay off the debt of 22,000 hryvnias for electricity with the help of the Caritas Charitable Foundation.

Mariupol

The russian troops continue to attack the Azovstal plant in Mariupol. They use aircraft, heavy artillery, tanks and infantry against the Ukrainian defenders. Despite the extremely critical situation, the Ukrainian soldiers repel enemy attacks.

Ukraine is currently negotiating the evacuation of 60 people from Azovstal. These are the seriously injured people and medics. In total, there are several hundred wounded on the territory of the plant. At the same time, russia has launched a campaign of psychological attacks on the families of Mariupol defenders. Data and contacts of soldiers’ wives were published on social networks.

The humanitarian situation in Mariupol is still difficult. It is not easy to find drinking water. People are forced to buy food for rubles at a higher rate.

About 170,000 civilians remain hostages of the russian occupation troops.

Luhansk Oblast

Ukrainian soldiers have repulsed 10 enemy attacks in Donetsk and Luhansk Oblasts over the past 24 hours. Five tanks, five artillery systems, six units of armored combat vehicles and seven enemy cars were destroyed. Ukrainian air defense units shot down three unmanned aerial vehicles “Orlan-10”.

The russians are attacking in the directions of Zolote and Komyshuvakha and actively firing on Rubizhne.

The situation in Vrubivka is extremely acute. Every day, the russians destroy houses, use multiple launch rocket systems and intensify aircraft attacks. There is significant damage on almost every street.

For the first time in a long period, several dozen civilians have been evacuated from Severodonetsk. Also, 8 people, including 3 children, were evacuated from Vrubivka.

Ukrainian citizens are being deported from Popasna, occupied by the russians from May 8th. The russian soldiers inspect the ruins and look for survivors. Then they take them at gunpoint to Pervomaisk and Stakhanov. People are being held against their will.

Southern Oblasts

Kherson Oblast

According to the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) Lyudmila Denisova, the russian occupation troops plan to conduct a “census” of the population in Kherson Oblast. They did the same in 2014 during the occupation of Ukrainian Crimea. The so-called “census” is scheduled to begin on May 16th and be completed by the end of the month.

A group of “recruiters” arrived in temporarily occupied Kherson. They are trying to find people who will agree to work in the “special services” of the occupied districts in Donetsk Oblast.

Forests have been burning in Oblast since mid-April. Extinguishing fires is difficult due to the temporary russian occupation of Oblast. The unique Kinburn Spit has been on fire for more than a week. The fire covered almost 4,000 hectares of forests on the border of Kherson and Mykolayiv Oblasts. The whole plant world is under threat of extinction, in particular, the largest field of wild Red Book orchids in Europe, perennial trees, pink lakes, and animals.

Mykolayiv Oblast

Yesterday, as a result of shelling by russian troops, houses, cars and civilian infrastructure were damaged. Three fires broke out due to the attacks. For the past 24hrs in the Mykolaiv oblast 5 people were wounded.

This morning the russian troops struck the next blow across Mykolaiv.

Because of the dangerous situation in Mykolaiv drivers of public transport will go on a run in bulletproof vests.

Volunteers from Odesa delivered to the Mykolayiv Oblast Children’s Hospital medical supplies for emergency care and bulletproof vests for emergency medical teams.

Odesa

The night passed quietly. Russia is bringing equipment and weapons to Snake Island.

Central Oblasts

Dnipropetrovsk Oblast

At dawn, the enemy fired on the Shirokiv community from the Hurricanes. Windows are broken in several houses. There are cluster munitions in several yards. There are no victims. Pyrotechnics work.

In the oblast, more than 8 tons of humanitarian goods were received by children and their parents from internally displaced families.

Kyrovohrad Oblast

The day passed calmly, there were no air alarms. In general, the situation in the oblast is under control.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine guarded the oblast’s borders and military facilities. Territorial Defence fighters were on duty at checkpoints and patrolled the city along with the police.

Today Kyrovohrad oblast is saying goodbye to two more faithful sons who died in battle defending their native land from the occupiers.

Resettlement and assistance headquarters continue to operate around the clock in the oblast. They may be approached by internally displaced persons who are in the Kyrovohrad oblast and who need to stay temporarily. Humanitarian headquarters will assist with resettlement and coordinate other humanitarian assistance.

The coordinator of the Active Community AUI assisted the IDPs in finding housing for permanent residence and work.

Poltava Oblast

Two air raids sounded in the morning.

The regional military administration continues to work on the issuance of food kits to migrants in the Poltava oblast. Since April 19th, more than 121,000 packages have been distributed in 53 communities.

There is a shortage of trolleybus drivers in Poltava. Training for new drivers has not been conducted for a long time. At the same time, the heads of the utility company promise that the idea of ​​resuming training for drivers will still be implemented and a corresponding group will be recruited by the end of the year.

Meanwhile, due to problems with public transport, the Poltava community of drivers revived the #Pidvez initiative (https://zmist.pl.ua/news/poltavski-vodiyi-z-radar-poltava-vidnovlyuyut-inicziatyvu-z-pidvezennya-poputnykiv). Drivers of private cars who want to join the initiative need to attach a sheet with the tag #Drive on the glass and take passengers at public transport stops so that citizens can get to work.

A few weeks ago, the Poltava Battalion of the Indifferent handed over an armoured car to the 110th Brigade. This car came under fire and saved the lives of defenders. Now they need a new car. Volunteers raise funds for the purchase and repair.

Western oblasts

Lviv Oblast

There were no reports of air raids.

Another 96 people from other oblasts were sheltered in the oblast. More than 238,000 IDPs have already registered as internally displaced persons in the Unified Information Database on Internally Displaced Persons. 75,000 of them are children.

Today, the mayor of Drohobych conducted an excursion to the tower of Drohobych City Hall, and the funds raised will be donated to repair the destroyed National Museum of Hryhoriy Skovoroda in Kharkiv oblast.

Rivne Oblast

The general situation is relatively calm, there were no air alarms.

Soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine patrol the border with Belarus. Territorial Defense is patrolling and on duty at checkpoints.

In the Rivne oblast, members of the Security Service of Ukraine exposed supporters of the ideology of pro-Russian blogger and propagandist Anatoliy Shari. The Sharia Party branch has been shut down.

Every day the oblast military administration provides information on the availability of fuel at gas stations in the oblast.

In the Rivne Oblast, activists call for planting gardens and orchards. In particular, for this purpose, the project “Local Agro Woman” is being implemented, which is implemented by the public organisation “Association of Women of Ukraine” Diya-Rivne “. They distributed seeds so that local communities, as well as IDPs, could grow onions, carrots and more.

Citizens are united and help financially and non-materially to volunteer headquarters.

Zdovbytsa

Today, representatives of the Caritas Charitable Foundation in the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church of Saints Peter and Paul provided humanitarian aid in the form of food kits and personal care products for internally displaced persons.

Khmelnytskyi Oblast

Khmelnytskyi

The situation in the city and the community is under control.

Volunteer Vitaliy Polishchuk was last seen off in Khmelnytsky. The hero died on May 9 in eastern Ukraine. He was a well-known public activist in the city, worked on the development of cycling infrastructure, and promoted a healthy lifestyle. Hundreds of Khmelnytsky residents came to say goodbye to Vitaliy. A coffin with his body was accompanied to the cemetery by a bicycle column.

According to the mayor, the number of people who stayed in the city for more than 3 days is more than 40 thousand. In total, during the period of full-scale invasion, the community received more than 175,000 people. During all this time, internally displaced citizens have used lunch vouchers 33,513 times. More than 60,000 people received various kits, including food, household chemicals and hygiene products. In addition, 350 people took courses in the History of Ukraine, another 1,500 people took Ukrainian language courses.

Khmelnytsky dancers, teachers of the dance studio Broadway dance academy recorded a video with choreography for the song “Red Viburnum”. Since the beginning of the full-scale war, choreographers continue to teach dance, at the same time holding charitable master classes, and part of the money is given to dancers – migrants who have lost their homes.

Regional coordinators continue to work with internally displaced persons, provide them with informational support and help them find housing.

Chernivtsi Oblast

It is currently safe in Chernivtsi Oblast. Representatives of law enforcement agencies are guarding around the clock. Bukovyna said goodbye to three other heroes who gave their lives for Ukraine’s independence.

Viktor Todosiychuk from Bukovyna re-profiled his company in Nedoboivtsi and set up the production of alarm devices in just three days. The man is an experienced inventor, so constructing a siren was not a problem for him. Now sirens produced by Bukovinians warn of danger in more than 200 settlements of Ukraine.

Chernivtsi National University named after Yuryi Fedkovych handed over humanitarian aid to workers and students of Karazin University who remained in the combat zone in Kharkiv. In particular, food and personal hygiene products were sent there.

In the Chernivtsi Music and Drama Theater. Olga Kobylyanska hosted the national art project “Fight for Ukraine”. During this time, they raised funds, which were transferred to the assistance of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The budget of the Chernivtsi city community received more than 130,000 hryvnias in tourist tax, which is more than last year. This is due to the arrival of IDPs, who occupied all the institutions of the hotel industry.

Inna Pashanyuk, coordinator of the AUI Active Community in Chernivtsi, was looking for volunteers who were ready to help prepare free lunches for the needy over the weekend.

Transcarpathian Oblast

The Center for Legal Support of Victims of the Military Invasion of the National Academy of Legal Sciences of Ukraine and Uzhhorod National University have been operating in Uzhhorod for over a month. Here, internally displaced persons will be able to get a professional answer to all questions.

From May 16 for two weeks Uzhgorod residents and IDPs will be able to quickly and free of charge fluorographic examination of the lungs. The city will have a mobile X-ray room provided by the Center for Pulmonary Diseases.

35 pupils of Uzhhorod Music School №1 named after Tchaikovsky organized a concert in support of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. All the funds raised during the concert were donated to the Transcarpathian Military Support Movement.

The team of AUI “Active Community” wove camouflage nets and together with the public organization “Happy Children” held an art-therapeutic master class for children of internally displaced persons.
