Ukraine in Brief:

Day ninety-fourth of Ukrainian people’s heroic struggle against the russian military aggression goes on.

The situation in the north of Ukraine remains largely unchanged.

The enemy has been using UAVs for air reconnaissance to ascertain positions of our troops in the Chernihiv and Sumy Oblasts.

The enemy shelled four times with mortars the positions of the border guard service in the area of Seredyna Buda, Stari Vyrky and Znob-Trubichevsk. Besides, a tactical air force jet from above the Kursk Oblast launched a missile strike on a civilian industrial facility in the Sumy Oblast.

In the direction of Kharkiv, the enemy units have been focussing their efforts at keeping the taken objectives and preventing our troops from advancing further. Engineering reinforcement of enemy positions to the west from Kozacha Lopan continues.

In Slovyansk direction, the enemy task force has been taking measures to renew its offensive in certain directions. The enemy keeps bringing its military equipment, arms and other materiel by train from the territory of the russian federation to the vicinity of Kupiansk, Kharkiv Oblast.

Donetsk direction: the aggressor is carrying out active combat actions towards Lyman, Severodonetsk, Bakhmut, Kurakhovo and Avdiyivka. The main target is to encircle our troups in the areas of Lysychansk and Severodonetsk and to reach the administrative border of the Luhansk Oblast.

The enemy has been engaged in the counterbattery action firing at our troops in the directions of Kurakhovo, Novopavlivsk and Zaporizzhya.

In the Mykolayiv Oblast, the enemy has been focussing on the keeping of the taken objectives.

Due to offensive actions of Defence Force units, the enemy has sustained losses and has been forced on the defensive on unprofitable objectives near Avdiyivka, Lozove and Bilohirka in the Kherson Oblast. The hostilities continue. The russian invaders have shelled civil infrastructure in and around Prybuzke, Posad-Pokrovske, Blahodatne, Osokorivka, Novovorontsovka, Novooleksandrivka and other population centres. The enemy keeps upgrading its air-defence force with S-300 missile systems.

Northern Oblasts

Kyiv Oblast

Minister of Foreign Affairs of North Macedonia Bujar Osmani has arrived on official visit to the Oblast. The foreign delegation was able to see the residential quarters in Irpin and witnessed the local infrastructure destroyed and damaged by the russian military.

Mine-clearing works continue in the Oblast. Some 238 explosive devices have been cleared by blast technicians in the past 24 hours.

Zhytomyr Oblast

Wind gusts have left 26 residential centres in the five Oblast communities without power. Some roads in two more population centres have been blocked with fallen trees.

An individual has been called out by the residents of Zhytomyr for publicly denying the rf’s military aggression against Ukraine and publicly calling to support actions and decisions by the aggressor country.

A new obstetrics and gynaecology department fitted out with modern equipment and comfortable conditions for expecting mothers and newborns has opened in the Korosten City Hospital.

Chernihiv Oblast

There were air raid alerts in the evening and morning.

On the night of 28 May, the border areas of the Oblast were subjected to fire from the russian military. There were shellings of the Senkivka border crossing area.

A volunteer hub in Priluky is making ghillies and camo nets for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The volunteers started on the fifth day of the full-scale war.

Ukrzaliznytsia (national railroad operator) is preparing the launch of additional trains between Chernihiv and Nezhyn.

The Desna Football Club from Chernihiv will be absent from the coming season because of the ruined sports infrastructure. The management of the Ukrainian Premier League has confirmed the club’s place in the Ukrainian championship after they officially announced they would not play in the next draw of the tournament. The situation is identical for the Mariupol Football Club.

Sumy Oblast

On the night of May 28, the rf military fired on a poultry factory in Putyvl flattening its buildings and damaging the ventilation system. The registered hit probably was from an air-to-surface missile.

There also was a mortar shelling of the Znob-Novgorod community and a firing on the Esman community. The outskirts of Bachiv were fired about 30 times. No human casualties have been reported.

At about 10:20 in the morning there was a shelling from the territory of russia in the direction of Boyar-Lezhachiv in the Sumy Oblast. 10 explosions, probably, from a 120 mm mortar, were recorded. There have been no casualties among the personnel or damage to equipment, the North Operational Command reports.

Eastern Oblasts

Kharkiv Oblast

The Kyivskyi District in Kharkiv has been shelled by the invaders in the past 24 hours.

Artillery shells landed at night in Mala Danylivka causing fires in two private homes. No casualties have been reported so far.

The shelling by the invaders of the Kharkiv Raion of the Oblast left one killed and two wounded.

Hostilities rage on in the Oblast. In Kharkiv direction, the enemy tries to keep the taken objectives and prevent Ukrainian troops from advancing.

The AFU strongly hold the line causing damage to the enemy. Airborne Assault Force troopers in the Oblast downed a Ka-52 attack helicopter.

Critical infrastructure restoration continues in Kharkiv and the Oblast. In particular, the works on mine-clearing and restoration of a gas supply line in Pivnichna Saltivka of Kharkiv go on.

Donetsk Oblast

Over the past 24hrs, eight enemy attacks have been repulsed in the Donetsk and Luhansk Oblasts, five tanks, ten units of armoured combat vehicles and four enemy vehicles have been destroyed. Air defence units destroyed Orlan-10 UAVs.

In the Donetsk direction, the enemy is conducting active offensive operations. Continues fire damage to our units along the line of contact, strikes missiles. Increased the intensity of operational-tactical and army aviation:

Today, the Russians killed 5 and wounded 4 more civilians in Donetsk. Since the beginning of the large-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, 442 civilians have been killed and 1,173 wounded in shelling and bombing in the Donetsk Oblast. The number of victims of the Russian military in Mariupol and Volnovakha is currently unknown.

Druzhkivka, Kostiantynivka and 9 other settlements were left without water due to damage to the Second Donetsk water supply system. Donbas water specialists left to determine the location and cause of the damage, but came under fire and were forced to take refuge in a safe place.

Kramatorsk

No enemy hostilities were recorded in the city.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine and Territorial Defence are preparing to meet the enemy.

The mayor of Kramatorsk and the head of the Donetsk VCA made statements refuting rumours about a possible power outage in the city and the Oblast. The launch of a new trolleybus route has also been announced, which will allow residents of remote neighbourhoods to reach the city. Residents are worried about the city’s electricity supply, as information has been released regarding the shutdown of the Slavyanskaya CHP.

The situation in the city remains alarming.

The coordinator of the Active Community AUI organized a mass distribution of humanitarian aid in one of the villages of the oblast. A total of 300 food kits were issued.

Pokrovsk and Pokrovsky Raion

The entire front line is under fire, the occupiers are most actively attacking Avdiivka, Maryinka, Krasnohorivka.

Soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine repel enemy attacks. Representatives of the local Territorial defence units are patrolling the community.

The last day in the Pokrov community was relatively calm. Requests from private homeowners to record the damage caused by the May 25 shelling continue to be received. Utilities operate on a full-time basis.

During a special city council session, local elected officials unanimously condemned russia’s aggression against Ukraine. In addition to condemning military aggression, in a joint statement, city council deputies called on international partners and decision-makers to stand firm against russian aggression, and to make wise, informed decisions for Ukraine’s territorial integrity and independence.

Myrnogradskaya TG of Pokrovsky District received almost 2,500 food kits from the Save Lives humanitarian project implemented by #Metinvest and the DTEK Group in coordination with the Rinat Akhmetov Foundation. Food kits were given to residents.

The next humanitarian cargo was delivered to the Lysiv Starostynsky District of the Pokrovsky TG. 1,200 food kits containing cereals, canned food, oil, vegetables and fruits have already been distributed to local residents. Lysivka Mayor Yulia Kabanets said that this time the help came from the international charity organization World Central Kitchen (abbreviated – WCK), which supports and feeds Ukrainians during the war. Every family living in Lysivka will receive food kits. People are willing to accept help because there is a real need for it today.

The head of the city council’s executive committee, Alevtina Zhuk, who is in charge of humanitarian issues, noted that the community’s leadership is making every effort to find partners who are willing to help.

Bakhmut

Residents of Stupok, Bakhmut district, are one of those who need special attention today. Most of them are elderly people who, for various reasons, cannot leave the community. During a meeting with Stupok residents, Bakhmut Mayor Oleksiy Reva once again stressed the need for evacuation. The regional coordinator provided advice on obtaining humanitarian assistance for internally displaced persons.

Luhansk Oblast

Ukrainian troops managed to push the russians to their former positions, damaging another bridge between Severodonetsk and Lysychansk. But the connection between the cities remains.

The russians suffered significant losses and were forced to retreat in the area of Severodonetsk, Toshkivka and Oskolonivka.

The enemy fired at Severodonetsk several times. At least three times the shelling was very powerful. Street fights broke out in some places. As a result, 14 high-rise buildings were damaged. The nearby village of Synetsky, which locals often call a hamlet, was also severely shelled.

In addition, destruction was recorded in other cities of Luhansk oblast: 9 houses were damaged in Girske, 4 each – in Zolote and Lysychansk. There is also ruining in the villages: 2 houses – in Vrubivka, 2 – in Orikhove.

In all, 8 enemy attacks have been repulsed in the past 24 hours. 5 tanks, 10 armored vehicles and 4 enemy vehicles have been destroyed.

Southern Oblasts

Zaporizhzhia Oblast

The situation in the oblast is difficult and unstable. Most of the territory is under russian occupation.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that the enemy used mortars, jet and barrel artillery along the front line in the Zaporizhzhia direction. The russians launched airstrikes from attack aircraft “Su-25” in the areas of Mala Tokmachka and Orikhiv.

During the past 24hrs, the Armed Forces of Ukraine destroyed 3 combat armored vehicles, an unmanned aerial vehicle “Orlan-10”, 2 units of motor vehicles and 3 enemy ammunition depots in the Zaporizhzhia direction. In addition, Ukrainian artillery fired on a russian column of tanks in the Nesteryanka area.

As a result of the Ukrainian defenders actions in the Zaporizhzhia and Novopavlovsk directions, russian troops suffered losses and retreated in the areas of the settlements of Novopil and Novodarivka.

In the Melitopol raion, the Priazovsky police department sided with the russian occupiers and called itself the “people’s militia.” More than 35 employees of the department, headed by the chief and his deputy, agreed to cooperate with the enemy.

A long curfew with a reinforced regime has been established in Orikhiv. It started at 14:00 on May 28 (Saturday) and will last until 5:00 on May 30 (Monday).

In Zaporizhzhia, the oblast humanitarian headquarters suspended its work. It cannot issue food kits due to desynchronization with the Dnipro packing center where the kits are formed.

Kherson Oblast

Skadovsk

The occupiers completely blocked all exits from the Kherson oblast to any region of Ukraine. Russia is carrying out compulsory passportization in the Kherson oblast, the russian president has signed a decree on a simplified system for issuing russian passports. The invaders continue to export grain, some farmers have cooperated with the enemy. In the Kherson region, the occupiers have launched cement plants and are making concrete fortifications. The russians continue to fire on the temporarily occupied settlements and claim that this was done by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine launched a successful counterattack, which was supported by aircraft.

The mayor has not published any news for more than a week, but continues his activities remotely.

People are united, try not to panic, but get very exhausted.

Stable critical situation in the oblast. Everything is being russified, although it hurts for Ukrainians… Food and other things are imported from the Crimea. Only the exchange of medicines works. Banking institutions do not work.

Central Oblasts

Kirovohrad Oblast

An air alarm was sounded – there was a threat of a missile strike.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine guarded the region’s borders and military facilities. Soldiers of the local Territorial Defense unit were on duty at checkpoints and patrolled the city together with police.

The situation in the community is under control.

Today is the Community Police Officer’s Day. In the Kirovohrad oblast, the project “Community Police Officer” has been successfully implemented for the third year. The head of the Kirovohrad Oblast State Administration Andriy Raikovych congratulated the police, and also noted that if people know that there is a police station in the neighborhood or in the village, there are community officers, – then civilians will be protected in peacetime. And now, when the country is at war with a fierce enemy, when many police officers are in the combat zone, the role of each unit has increased many times over.

Employees of the Emergency Medical Center in Kropyvnytskyi will transfer money to the military for the second time. On April 19, workers sent almost UAH 400,000 to the needs of the third separate special regiment named after Prince Svyatoslav the Brave. The money will be transferred on May 31 this month after receiving the salary.

Ukrainian soldiers Viktor Nesterenko and Oleksandr Sukhov were paid their last respects in Kropyvnytskyi. Farewell to the Heroes who died defending Ukraine from russian invaders took place. Relatives, friends, compatriots and comrades-in-arms paid tribute to them and took them to eternity.

Local music groups “EFIR” and “Cardio” performed at the Kropyvnytskyi Arboretum, raising money for the volunteer organization “Heart of Mothers” during the concert to donate to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Poltava Oblast

About forty streets of Poltava are planned to be renamed within two months, First Deputy Mayor Valery Parkhomenko said. We are talking about the names of streets that come from russism, such as “Cozy”. In addition, these are streets named after Soviet figures. Variants of the new names promise to be submitted for public discussion.

On May 27, the Poltava City Council decided to terminate the contracts with private route carriers and since May 13 they have not left for the routes. The City Council stated that the monopolists-carriers do not comply with the conditions of passenger transportation, blackmail the government and city residents. However, tariff increases are still planned.

In Poltava, UAH 10,200 was raised from the Black Square Theater during a comedy improvisation. All funds were transferred to the NGO “Defense of Poltava”, for which batteries for drones of the Armed Forces of Ukraine will be purchased.

Ivan Samsonov, a 10-year-old Kharkiv resident, raised 7,000 hryvnias in Poltava for the military. The boy moved with his family from Kharkiv to Poltava because of the war. For almost three months he has been making bracelets and selling them every Saturday on the streets of the city, and he also has orders online. Vinnytsia Oblast

Zhmerynka

There are no enemy soldiers on the territory of the community.

The local Territorial Defense units patrols the community. The general situation in the community is stable.

The mayor called for security measures due to the fact that private institutions, some government agencies and citizens ignore air alarm signals.

In general, people react calmly to the situation, most are accustomed to martial law.

Khmilnyk 

In the morning there were air alarms.The situation remains stable and under control. Utilities work in a regular mode. Representatives of the local Territorial Defense units conducted patrols in the community

On May 27, two trucks of international aid from the humanitarian organization People in Need, Czech Republic, arrived in the Khmelnytsky community. The team of the organization brought cots (200 pieces), mattresses (200 pieces), blankets (200 pieces), pillows (400 pieces), bedding sets (307 pieces), sets of pots (20 pieces), electric kettles (20 pieces), adult diapers 30 packages), baby diapers (30 packages), baby cream (100 pieces), as well as water tanks (200 pieces) and washing machines (2 pieces).

Coordinators of the AUI Active Community of Khmilnyk and Khmilnytskyi district are preparing for the next event with local residents and migrants.

Western Oblasts 

Rivne Oblast

The general situation is relatively calm, there were no air alarms.

Soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine patrol the border with belarus.

Representatives of the local Territorial Defense units are patrolling and on duty at checkpoints.

They provided the necessary equipment for the defense.

The coordinator of AUI “Active Community” helped in the youth space where the event took place.

Chernivtsi Oblast

At present, it is safe in Chernivtsi Oblast : representatives of law enforcement agencies are guarding the peace of Bukovynians and guests of the region around the clock. Bukovyna said goodbye to the brave soldiers Maksym Fedoryuk and Andriy Bodnaryuk, who died in fierce battles for the independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine.

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Moldova to Ukraine Valeriu Kiver brought equipment to strengthen the protection of the state border, as well as humanitarian cargo for internally displaced persons.

During the three months of full-scale war in the Chernivtsi region, almost two thousand newlyweds got married.

The team of AUI “Active Community” of Chernivtsi together with the Bukovynian Center of Culture and Arts organized a master class on vytynanka for families who found refuge in Bukovyna. People’s Master of Ukraine Vasyl Ilyich Bezhenar acquainted the participants with the history of the origin of vytynankas and taught the audience to create the “Tree of Life”. Such art-therapeutic activities are aimed at overcoming stress through practicing a certain art form. In the future, several more joint master classes are planned.


Transcarpathian Oblast

A regional office of the European Union Advisory Mission will open in Transcarpathia. This was discussed today at a meeting between the Deputy Head of the Territory Petro Dobromilsky and the Head of the EU Advisory Mission to Ukraine Antti Hartikainen. The EUMC regional unit will operate in Uzhhorod. The office and staffing are planned to be completed within three months.

The Defense Council of the Zakarpattia Oblast lifted the ban on the entry of vehicles, other self-propelled vehicles (except for transit routes) and visits to forests by the population.

In Uzhhorod, the Taras Shevchenko Linguistic Gymnasium organized a charity event in support of the military on the Independence Embankment. They conducted master classes with origami, weaving bracelets, making a doll-motanka, aqua make-up for kids, a fair with students ‘works and delicious desserts, selling T-shirts with prints of high school students’ drawings. The most anticipated event of the day was the traditional screening of the film under the linden trees from the production center “Spring will win”.
