About us: The “Active Community” initiative was launched by activists of the “Republika” Institute after the Euromaidan (2014), which focused on the activation and involvement of Ukrainians in the decision-making process. The goal for 2025: to activate and involve at least 1% of citizens in making decisions and promoting reforms in Ukraine on a systematic basis for the well-being of Ukrainian communities. Northern Oblasts
Kyiv
The Czech Republic is planning a major government visit to Kyiv. The main topics will be the consequences of russian aggression and post-war reconstruction.
They want to build a protective dome against drones over Kyiv. The Canadian technology concern DraganFly will help create the Muromets tactical air defense system. At the National Defense Hackathon, the creation of the “Muromets” drone dome over the capital with a powerful network of anti-drone direction finders-interceptors will be worked out.
A mural is being created in Podil, on which a сossack kills a bear, symbolizing the victory of Ukrainians over the enemy. The opening of the mural will take place on October 12 before the Feast of the Intercession, the Day of the Cossacks and the Day of Defenders of Ukraine.
Kyiv Oblast
In the Kyiv Oblast, pyrotechnicians of the State Emergency Service have neutralized more than 70,000 units of explosive objects. During the previous day, explosive objects were discovered in 14 settlements of Bucha, Vyshhorod, Fastiv and Obukhiv raions.
In the village of Buzova, the first modular houses were installed on the private estates of residents who lost their homes due to the war.
The International Committee of the Red Cross handed over two cars, a truck and a car for going to the places of gusts and their liquidation to the Irpin utility company “Teploenergopostach”.
Zhytomyr Oblast
In Zhytomyr, law enforcement officers are checking information about bomb threat in schools. In a number of educational institutions of the regional center, investigative and operational groups and police units work.
Oleksandr Shvetsov, a veteran of the ATO from Zhytomyr, who after being injured moves on a prosthesis, organized a walk from Odesa to the Carpathians, during which he collects money for two pickup trucks and a minibus for his brothers-in-arms. People who donate help not only to raise money for transport for the military, but also to shorten the section of the road that Oleksandr has to travel.
More than 150 trench candles were made and sent to the front by the students of the Chudniv Lyceum. Currently, the institution is running a charity event called “Warmth of Faith in Victory”, which was attended by students, their parents and teachers.
The team of young foresters from Zhytomyr Oblast won first place at the All-Ukrainian competition of student foresters of general secondary and out-of-school education institutions. Zhytomyr Oblast was represented by children from Levkiv and Baranivka school forestry.
Chernihiv Oblast
On October 7, the russians shelled the border of the Chernihiv Oblast. The fire was probably fired from mortars. The military observed six hits in the direction of Mykolaivka village. Later, four more attacks were recorded in the direction of the village of Senkivka.
On the morning of October 8, the russian army shelled Chernihiv Oblast with artillery. 15 hits have been recorded in the area of Mykolaivka village. Also, 2 hits were recorded near the Hrynivka.
Sumy Oblast
On October 7, a 51-year-old local resident was killed in the Krasnopillya community of the Sumy Oblast during a morning missile strike from the russian side. Also, in the Krasnopilllya community, houses and railway tracks were damaged due to shelling by the russians.
Eastern Oblasts
Kharkiv Oblast
In Kharkiv, after midnight, the occupiers launched rocket attacks on the Saltivskyi and Osnovyanskyi districts. A 45-year-old man received shrapnel wounds, his condition is average. The sports complex, non-residential premises, farm buildings, cars, garages were damaged, and there were hits in open areas. Rescuers extinguished several fires.
In the Oblast, the occupiers struck the Kupyansk, Bogodukhiv, Kharkiv, and Izyum raions.
During the day, 6 people were hospitalized: 1 man in Kharkiv, 1 injured in Kharkiv raion, 4 – in Izyum raion as a result of mine explosions.
During the day, the pyrotechnic units of the State Emergency Service removed and neutralized 695 explosive objects.
Donetsk Oblast
On October 7, the russians killed 6 civilians of Donetsk Oblast: two in Zarichne, two in Ocheretyne, one in Bakhmut and one in Pavlivka.
In addition, 9 more civilians killed by the russians during the occupation were found in the liberated communities: 6 in Lyman, 2 in Sviatohirsk, and 1 in Yarova. Another 17 people were injured yesterday.
Since the day of russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, 961 peaceful residents of Donetsk Oblast have been killed by the weapons of the invaders, and another 2,347 people have been injured. The number of victims in Mariupol and Volnovaha is currently unknown.
On October 7, the power engineers of Donetsk Oblast restored electricity supply to more than 8,000 families. Due to constant shelling, 79 settlements in the Donetsk Oblast are currently without electricity.
Kramatorsk and Kramatorsk Raion
In the Kramatorsk direction from artillery of various types the enemy fired such settlements as Spirne, Bilogorivka, Verkhnokamianske, Rozdolivka, Serebryanka, Hryhorivka, Dronivka, Vesele.
In Lyman and Sviatohirsk, the exhumation and reburial of those who died during the occupation began. Two burials are currently known in Lyman. One of them has about two hundred graves. According to preliminary information, these are single graves where civilians are buried.
In another area, there is a mass grave, in which, according to operational data, there may be both military and civilians.
And in Sviatohirsk, 21 bodies were reburied at the city cemetery – these are civilians who died during the occupation of the city. Pokrovsk and Pokrovsk Raion
During the day, the enemy carried out shelling in the Avdiyivka direction. Avdiivka, Krasnohorivka, Pervomaiske and Novomykhailivka were affected by fire. At night there were isolated flights over the old part of Avdiyivka, and in the morning there was massive artillery shelling of the city center. There was no information about the victims.
Occupants targeted the same building twice in the city of Kurakhovo, Pokrovsk Raion. After the first flight, the police called on the residents to evacuate, but they refused. A few months later, a second enemy rocket completely destroyed the house, killing one person and injuring four more, including a child.
Bakhmut
During the last day, in the direction of Bakhmut, the enemy shelled the areas of Yakovlivka, Soledar, Bakhmut, Bakhmutske, Ivangrad, Opytne, Mayorsk, New York, Vyimka, Rozdolivka, Vesele and Odradivka.
The russians showed the greatest activity that night in the Horlivka direction: the communities of Bakhmutsk, Toretsk, and Soledarsk were set on fire.
In Bakhmut, 1 person died, 7 were injured. In the city, 6 private houses and 3 high-rise buildings, kindergartens, a sports complex, an entertainment facility and an administrative building were damaged.
Toretsk and Soledar communities were shelled, but without casualties.
Mariupol
The occupiers continue to issue transport purchased by Ukrainian Mariupol as a “gift” from russia. For example, the inscription “russia of Donbas” was pasted on the equipment of the communal enterprise “Komunalnyk”, which was purchased with the funds of the city and the Raion. Russian occupiers from the first days of the war purposefully destroyed the equipment and transport of Mariupol communal enterprises. And now several surviving garbage trucks are being passed off as “gifts” from russia.
Luhansk Oblast
Today, the plan for life support of de-occupied settlements in the Luhansk Oblast was approved. It provides measures for the examination, detection and disposal of explosive objects at the objects of critical infrastructure and life support of settlements, administrative objects and buildings, territories (lands) of various types of ownership and purpose adjacent to settlements. Restoration of the functioning of communal enterprises and electricity, gas, heat, water supply and drainage networks. As well as ensuring the operation of 24-hour stationary and temporary population heating points regardless of a significant drop in air temperature and humanitarian headquarters to provide the population with food and hygiene kits, warm clothes and blankets, building materials, etc.
Southern Oblasts
Zaporizhzhia Oblast
On the night of the 8th of October, the russian military shelled and damaged the last communication line of the Zaporizhzhia NPP with the Ukrainian power system. The station works on diesel generators, the available fuel reserves are enough for 10 days.
As of the morning of 8th of October, the number of people killed as a result of rocket attacks on residential buildings in Zaporizhzhia increased to 17 people, including one child. Debris clearing works are ongoing.
On the 30th of September, another wounded person died in the hospital as a result of a rocket attack on a humanitarian convoy in Zaporizhzhia. The total number of victims of the terrorist act of the russian military is currently 32 people.
Near the settlements of Pologa and Tokmak of the Zaporizhzhia Oblast, as a result of shelling by units of the Defense Forces in areas where the enemy’s manpower is concentrated, the russian military lost about 85 people wounded. Information about the dead is being clarified.
Kherson Oblast
In Kherson oblast, russian troops are arranging a new fortified defense line in the form of trenches and radar protection in the direction of Beryslav – Nova Kakhovka.
Due to the attack of the russian army, some residents of the villages of Beryslav raion were left without electricity supply, repair works are ongoing where it is possible. Due to an enemy shell hitting, sunflower seeds caught fire in the warehouses of a farm.
A resident of the Novovorontsovka community hit a tripwire installed by the russian military on the coast of the Kakhovka reservoir. The 31-year-old man died immediately.
During the day, the Ukrainian Armed Forces carried out 15 airstrikes, 360 missile and artillery strikes on air defense facilities, three areas of concentration of russian troops, and a stronghold in the raion of Beryslav. Russian troops lost 110 people, 28 units of weapons and equipment, and another 9 units of weapons were severely damaged.
To date, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have liberated over 2,400 square kilometers in the south of Ukraine. Six settlements have been liberated in Kherson raion, and 61 in Beryslav raion, said Kyrylo Tymoshenko, who is the Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine.
Valentina Ponomarenko, who is the coordinator of “Active Community” in Skadovsk, continues to volunteer. There are still many elderly people in the city who need medical care and medicines. The volunteers packed the remains of medicines and distributed them to the homes.
Mykolaiv Oblast
Yesterday the enemy struck the water area of the Ochakiv community. There were no casualties.
Over the past day, the settlements of the Berezneguvate community were under fire from the enemy.
In addition, on October 7, the occupants shelled at the community of Shyroke. They hit the stadium, open areas, and roads. Also today, on October 8, shelling was recorded in two settlements of the community. The agricultural enterprise, warehouses, and equipment were significantly damaged. There were no casualties.
Also yesterday around 23:00 a residential building was damaged as a result of shelling in the Halytsynove community. There were no casualties.
At night, on October 8, at approximately 02:00, the Bashtanka community was shelled. As a result, the administrative building, kindergarten, school, and outpatient clinic were damaged. Also, three residential buildings were damaged, and windows, roofs, and ceilings were damaged. There were no casualties.
Odesa Oblast
Today, another Russian drone at the operational and tactical levels was neutralized by the forces and means of air defense of the ‘Pivden’ Air Command in Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi raion of Odesa oblast. The type is being specified.
7 vessels with 172.6 thousand tons of agricultural goods are heading from the ports of Velyka Odesa to Asia and Europe. The bulk carrier CORNELIA M left the port “Yuzhny” to Vietnam. It transports 60 thousand tons of Ukrainian wheat. The SHAMAN WISDOM, LADY EVA, and ORIS SOFI vessels left the berths of the port of Odesa. Kirovohrad Oblast

The Lviv 103rd Brigade of the Territorial Defense Forces received Valkyria drones. They were provided by the “Army SOS” team and the Serhiy Prytula Charitable Foundation. “Valkyria” is a complex designed for monitoring, aerial reconnaissance, video surveillance, and adjustment of artillery fire. Its features are a long flight range and stable connection. The defenders of the brigade have already passed special training for the operators.
Ivan Vakarchuk Street was opened solemnly in Lviv. The street is named after the long-time Rector of the Ivan Franko University of Lviv. Previously, the street was named after Kindrat Ryleev.
Rivne Oblast
The schoolchildren have raised more than 30 thousand hryvnias during a charity fair in Dubno raion. The event was attended by teachers, parents, and graduates of the Smordva Lyceum, as well as community entrepreneurs. At the fair, people could taste home cooking – bograch and pilaf were cooked on the fire. A variety of handicrafts were sold. On the proceeds, the organizers plan to purchase the necessary military equipment for their fellow soldiers.
Zakarpattia Oblast
The fallen defender, Mykhailo Hryha was said goodbye to in the village of Verkhni Vorota in Mukachevo raio,. The 31-year-old soldier was killed in Kherson oblast. Soldier Mykhailo Chomolyak was buried in the village of Polyanska Huta in Uzhgorod raion. Serhiy Gabor from the village of Trosnyk in the Vynogradiv city territorial community received life-threatening injuries during the war. Eternal memory to the Heroes. More than 1400 places for medium-term accommodation of IDPs have been arranged in Zakarpattia, but the need for reconstruction of additional locations remains. Currently, there are about 390 thousand Ukrainians in Zakarpattia oblast, who were forced to leave their homes because of the war. The local authorities have engaged communities, partner organizations, and charitable foundations to address the issue. The open mountain bike tournament “Velolider” took place in Uzhhorod. The tournament is already a tradition and is held to promote active recreation, a healthy lifestyle, and the popularization of cycling. The event brought together more than 50 participants from Uzhhorod and Mukachevo, as well as internally displaced children from Kharkiv.
