Northern Oblasts

Kyiv

Sophia’s Cathedral presented the exhibition «Sofia’s Deisis» – a series of works by artists Oleksandr Klymenko and Sonia Atlantova from the project «Icons on Ammunition Boxes». The exhibition is dedicated to fallen soldiers from the 114th, 112th and 241st territorial defense brigades of the Kyiv Oblast and Kyiv. The artists presented 11 works written on boxes from under weapons, which remained after the battles during the defense of Kyiv Oblast in the spring of 2022.

Kyiv Oblast

In Irpin, a local resident found a loaded grenade launcher. According to the protocol, the police and the Municipal Guard were immediately called.

In Irpin, a house with a painting by the British artist Banksy, located at 158 ​​Severynivska Street, will be demolished. Preparatory work to dismantle the house has already begun. Several pieces of equipment and about a dozen construction workers are working on the site. The builders promise to preserve the author’s work. According to them, the painting will be dismantled separately.

Sumy Oblast

Yesterday, the russians shelled 5 border communities of Sumy Oblast – Esman, Bilopillia, Yunakivka, Myropillia and Nova Sloboda. A total of 64 hits from mortars and artillery were recorded.

The night from April 22 to 23 passed without shelling from the russian side.

Eastern Oblasts

Kharkiv Oblast

That night, the enemy launched rocket attacks on Kharkiv and the Kharkiv Oblast. One of the rockets hit the ground in Kharkiv. Another missile probably exploded in the air over the territory of the vegetable factory. Greenhouses and workshops were damaged.

As a result of a missile strike on the village of Kotlyari in the Kharkiv raion, 2 private houses were destroyed, 10 houses, 1 garage and 4 cars were damaged. There were fires. There were no casualties.

During the past day, the enemy shelled the settlements of Kharkiv, Kupyansk, Chuguyiv and Bogoduhiv raions. In particular, Kupyansk, Vovchansk, Timofiivka, Novomlynsk, Zapadne and other settlements were under enemy fire.

Demining continues. Over the past day, pyrotechnicians of the State Emergency Service inspected more than 14 hectares of territory and neutralized 132 explosive objects.

Donetsk Oblast

On April 22, the russian military bombarded six populated areas of Donetsk Oblast with air bombs, S-300s, Grads, Hurricanes, and artillery. 

On April 22, it became known about 4 more people injured by the russians: 3 in Bakhmut and 1 in Ocheretyne.

In total, since the day of the full-scale war, russian weapons have killed 1,479 civilians in Donetsk Oblast and injured another 3,421. It is still not possible to establish the number of victims in Mariupol and Volnovakha.

Kramatorsk and Kramatorsk raion

At night, the russian military shelled Slovyansk. There are no casualties or injuries. The S-300 missile hit a quarry in the Lisnyi microdistrict. Several private houses were damaged.

In the Sviatohirsk community, local residents held a spring cleanup for three days in a row. People cleaned garbage, dry vegetation, planted decorative bushes, trees and flowers, made stuffed dolls, dog feeders and wove a camouflage net.

Pokrovsk and Pokrovsk raion

In the Avdiyivka direction, the enemy carried out offensive actions in the areas of Novokalynove, Donetsk Oblast, without success. Fired at 6 settlements.

In the Donetsk direction, 1 person was injured in Ocheretyne. Maryinka and the surroundings of Kurakhove came under fire, isolated shelling was recorded in Avdiyivka.

During the past day, Ukrainian defenders repelled enemy attacks in the Maryinka area. In addition, Maryinka and the outskirts of Kurakhove, Krasnohorivka, Georgiivka, and Novomykhailivka of the Donetsk Oblast were subjected to enemy shelling.

Residents of Avdiyivka, who currently live in the Ocheretyne community, were provided with fresh bread from the military administration of their hometown, food kits and hygiene products from the Global Empowerment Mission (GEM) organization and the TIM4UA Charitable Foundation. So, about a hundred displaced people received everyday items, basic products for their daily diet.

Bakhmut and Bakhmut Raion

In the Horlivka sector, there are 20 damaged private houses in Bakhmut and 15 in the Toretsk community. The outskirts of Soledar and Chasovoyarsk communities came under fire.

Volnovakha and Volnovakha Raions

In the Volnovakha sector, on April 22, the russian military conducted six air strikes on Vuhledar. They are using the “scorched earth” tactics. As a result of the shelling, a 9-storey building was destroyed in the town.

A private house in Bohoyavlenka was also damaged.

Military chaplains evacuated two more residents from Vuhledar and brought humanitarian aid to people who remain in the town despite the shelling and air strikes.

Luhansk Oblast

The previous day was relatively calm. The occupants did not conduct any offensive actions in the Luhansk Oblast. However, this did not prevent them from shelling settlements where there are still civilians. The enemy directed artillery fire at Makiivka, Nevske, Bilohorivka, and Dibrova.

Southern Oblasts

Mykolaiv Oblast

Yesterday, an enemy artillery shelling of the water area of the Ochakiv community was recorded. There were no damages or casualties.

In Mykolaiv, Pervomaisk, Bashtanka, and Voznesensk Raions, the day and night were relatively calm.

Zaporizhzhia Oblast

Over the past day, on April 22, russian troops shelled 18 settlements in Zaporizhzhia Oblast. In particular, they fired 70 artillery shells, and carried out 4 attacks with multiple rocket launchers and 4 attacks with the use of drones. A man was injured as a result of the shelling.

A development center for children with special educational needs was opened in Zaporizhzhia. It was opened in the Inclusive Resource Center in the Voznesenivskyi district of the city. The center was opened with the support of the UNICEF Foundation and the Association of Ukrainian Cities.

Odesa Oblast

On April 23, 2023, a russian reconnaissance drone of the “Merlin” type was shot down by the soldiers of the anti-aircraft missile brigade of the Odesa Air Command “South” in Mykolaiv Oblast.

Kherson Oblast

On April 22, the russian army fired 54 times at Kherson Oblast, including twice at Kherson. The shells hit residential areas of the settlements. One person was killed and two wounded.

During the day, the russian army shelled the settlements of Beryslav, Novooleksandrivka, Mylivka, and Tiahynka territorial communities. In Beryslav, the building of the House of Arts and a shop were damaged. One person was killed near the village of Davydiv Brid as a result of a mine explosion.

This afternoon russian troops shelled the village of Kizomys in Kherson Oblast. They hit the local school building, a law enforcement vehicle, and about 25 residential buildings. Two women were wounded and hospitalized.

The russian army shelled a cemetery in the village of Havrylivka, Beryslav Raion, with artillery. No one was killed or injured.

Russian occupants seized nature reserves and national parks located on the left bank of the Kherson Oblast. They re-issued documents according to russian regulations, appointed their own “leaders” and changed the status of the institutions. Now they will mainly be engaged in so-called “tourist activities”.

Over the past day, rocket and artillery units of the Defense Forces struck at the concentration of russian military manpower and equipment in the Skadovsk Raion of Kherson Oblast. They eliminated two Lancet-type kamikaze drones and an anti-drone gun, two T-62/72 tanks, and destroyed an observation post and a field supply point of the russian army.

Central Oblasts

Dnipropetrovsk Oblast

On the night of April 23, russian troops struck the Nikopol raion of the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast. A drone was used on the territory of the Marganets community. An explosive projectile was dropped from it. Three people were injured: one person was injured, two others were injured. A communal building, two houses, two garages and a car were damaged. 

A 33-year-old man was wounded by shrapnel in Nikopol, Dnipropetrovsk Oblast in the morning of April 23 due to a drone attack. Two more – with mine-explosive injuries and contusions.

Four hundred cows from the Bakhmut farm moved to the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast. The Bakhmut dairy farm, where they lived before the full-scale invasion, was completely destroyed. About a hundred people died from shelling. A farmer from the Dnipro region provided free of charge a place at his enterprise and transport for the transportation of livestock.

A support center for displaced persons from Bakhmut was opened in Kryvyi Rih. Humanitarian aid is provided here and various activities for children, including educational ones, are held. Currently, 940 migrants have registered in the hub.

Cherkasy Oblast

More than 2,000 hectares of forests were flooded in Cherkasy Oblast. Experts warn: if this level of water remains for more than 20 days, young plantations up to 10 years old will begin to die. For example, such an amount of water is harmful for a common pine.

A resident of Los Angeles bought a picture of a schoolgirl from Zolotonysia at a charity auction in Kyiv. On the canvas is a world-famous image illustrated on a Ukrainian stamp with a phrase for a russian ship. Daria Fedorets drew it in two days. The painting was bought for almost UAH 30,000 by a former resident of Luhansk, who has been living in the United States for a long time. Proceeds will go to help temporarily displaced persons.

In Cherkasy, the photo project “Immigrants. Children of war”. 69 children from a few months to 16 years old joined the event. The author of the initiative, photographer Svitlana Korablyova, wanted to support the families of immigrants in this way and present them with several black-and-white photos.

Khmelnytsk Oblast

Kamianets-Podilskyi

Today, at the city cemetery, representatives of all religious denominations, except for the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate, held a prayer service at the graves of Ukrainian soldiers who died since the beginning of russia’s war against Ukraine.

The Kamianets-Podilskyi city hospital received humanitarian aid from abroad. Friends from “Kolbuszowa Bez Granic” in Poland donated 5 electric functional beds with mattresses and tools to restore the patient’s motor functions. Patients of various categories, military personnel, displaced persons will be able to use them.

Chernivtsi Oblast

A three-day psychological rehabilitation seminar for leaders of public organizations of persons with disabilities on the topic “Activities of public organizations of people with disabilities in wartime conditions” has started in Bukovina. Participants are expected to strengthen their organizational capacity, share experiences and seek ways to support organizations.

In Horbivtsi, Chernivtsi Oblast, local volunteers make reusable heating pads for the military, which can produce heat for up to five hours. The idea was borrowed from a volunteer from Sumy Oblast. Heaters are made in the school gym. During the winter, more than 1,200 pieces were made – they were handed over to the soldiers on the front lines.

I-Mariupol Support Center for IDPs conducts tours of Chernivtsi for Mariupol residents.

AUI “Active Community” in Chernivtsi held an online consultation meeting with public activists as part of the project to build consensus between internally displaced persons, local residents and government officials in the capital of Bukovyna. Its purpose is to identify conflict issues and find ways to resolve them.
