Ukraine in Brief:

28th day of Ukrainian people’s heroic struggle against the russian military invasion.

In Kyiv Oblast, the invaders try to entrench their objectives and re-group following the sustained losses. The aggressors had tried to advance towards the Teterivske area but were repelled due to limited forces. The enemy continues with air reconnaissance missions, builds up its anti-aircraft defense, and lays mines on approaches to their troops’ positions.

After a failed attempt to blockade Chernihiv, the enemy tried to restore after considerable losses and set up logistical support of its units. The invaders continue operating checkpoints on logistical routes in the Chernihiv Oblast nearby Novyi Bykiv, Losynivka, Velyka Doroha, Monastyryshche, Berestovets, Prohory, Talalayivka, and Makiyivka.

Russian detachments continue focusing their efforts on besieging the cities of Kharkiv and Sumy and restoring their personnel losses.

Fights near Izyum, Kharkiv Oblast, resulted in Ukrainian Defense Forces destroying up to 60% of the personnel and military equipment of the russian invading troops.

Russian Federation armed forces’ objective in the direction of Donetsk remains unchanged: to establish control over Rubizhne, Severodonetsk, Popasna, Verkhnyotoretske, Maryinka, and Mariupol. The enemy fails to gain success, sustains losses, and attempts to beef up its task force with additional troops deployed.

Arrival and accumulation of personnel and military equipment of russia armed forces have been spotted nearby Jankoy on the temporarily occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.

The enemy does not engage in any active actions in the Mykolayiv Oblast but rather strengthens its positions’ engineering infrastructure.

Northern Oblasts

Kyiv

The invaders continue shelling the capital. The recent strikes hit private houses, tower blocks, and department stores in Svyatoshinsky and Shevchenkivskyi Districts.

Kyiv Oblast

The communities of Makariv, Bucha, Irpin, and Dmytrivka are under fire. There are fights along the Zhytomyr motorway, in and around Irpin and Gostomel. The Armed Forces of Ukraine have encircled the towns of Irpin and Bucha and Gostomel settlement. The national police have returned to work in Irpin.

Klavdiyevo-Tarasove, Severynivka, Berezivka, and Mykolayivka are on the verge of humanitarian catastrophe; there is one already developing in Ivankiv, Dymer, and Polissya communities. The invaders pillaged and plunded properties and residents on the temporarily occupied territories.

The russian military used the prohibited phosphorus munitions in the northwestern boroughs of Kyiv. The estimated impact area covers Gostomel and Irpin. The Irpin river has overflown its banks, complicating its force crossing.

The russian military has been presented with rape suspicion by the Ukrainian prosecutor’s office for the first time. The drunken invader burst into a private house in a village in the Brovary District, killed the owner, and, with his service mate, raped the owner’s wife several times.

Zhytomyr Oblast

Russian occupation troops fired on the northern districts of the Oblast – Korosten, Malyn, Narodytsia territorial communities. Buildings were partially destroyed, no one was injured.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces are holding back an offensive by russian troops near Malyn. A mobile hospital of Canadian and American volunteers will be set up in Zhytomyr Oblast.

Sumy Oblast

There was shelling and fire in Trostyanets all night. The occupiers do not allow putting out the fire at one of the enterprises. 73 settlements remain without electricity.

Chernihiv Oblast

In Chernihiv, the russian military bombed a road bridge across the Desna, which connected the city with Kyiv. Evacuation flights from Chernihiv used this bridge, delivering humanitarian aid to the city. However, the Oblast governor says that this will not prevent the delivery of humanitarian goods to the city.

Eastern Oblasts

Kharkiv Oblast

During the night, Kharkiv was fired at 32 times from tanks and artillery. Northern Saltivka suffered the most. The russians fired rockets at Lozova. They damaged 20 houses, a school, and a kindergarten.

The enemy continues to throw new troops at Izyum despite the losses. In the Kharkiv Oblast, the occupiers lose planes every day. Today, the military air defense shot down two russian planes.

12 tons of military aid were sent from Chernivtsi to Kharkiv Oblast. This is a load of medicines, food, and hygiene products.

Donetsk Oblast

Kramatorsk

The situation in the city is tense. The air alarm sounded several times. Explosions were heard, but there were no official statements about the destruction or casualties. The Armed Forces of Ukraine are preparing to meet the enemy. Territorial Defense Forces prepare to meet the enemy and patrols the city. The city is operating normally. The Department of Humanitarian Affairs has published a series of motivational posters “Kramatorsk is Ukraine” https://t.me/kram_cultura. Volunteering continues: volunteers help evacuate the population, weave nets, prepare for the military, collect and distribute humanitarian aid, etc.

The situation with medicines is improving – a network of pharmacies has been able to deliver much-needed cargo to the city, and the sale of medicines to residents will begin tomorrow.

Pokrovsk and Pokrovsk District

The enemy tried to advance and gain a foothold in Marinka but could not. Russian occupation troops suffered heavy losses and retreated. The Armed Forces of Ukraine are holding back the enemy’s advance, both in the direction of the city of Kurakhove and near Avdiivka. The Territorial Defense Forces, together with the police, was on duty in the cities of the Pokrovsk District.

In Pokrovsk, work on the detection of explosive objects proceeds. Thus, according to the dispatcher of the State Emergency Service, rescuers received 2 applications for the detection of explosives over the past 24 hours. Two pyrotechnic teams found and disposed of 38 explosive devices.

In Pokrovsk, the list of bomb shelters and simpler shelters was updated, adding new shelters. Today an evacuation train left Pokrovsk for Dnipro. The situation is relatively calm. There is fuel at the gas station.

Bakhmut

The situation in the city is tense. Volunteers collect the necessary things for the military. Internally displaced persons (IDPs) continue to arrive in the city. They are registered and provided with shelter. City infrastructure, utilities operate normally. Private trade facilities and the market continue to work. From March 1st, 2022, the Bakhmut City Council organized and transported 2050 people to the railway stations of Kramatorsk and Slovyansk for further departure by Ukrzaliznytsia evacuation trains to safe oblasts of the country.

Mariupol

24th day of the blockade of Mariupol. Doctors continue to rescue people in basements. The dead are buried in the yards. Russian occupation troops destroyed the Art Museum, which housed the original paintings by world-famous artists.

Southern Oblasts

Zaporizhzhia Oblast

The situation in Zaporizhzhia Oblast remains tense. The Armed Forces of Ukraine inflicted significant losses on russian military formations. Over the past day and as of the morning of March 23rd, an infantry fighting vehicle and five armored personnel carriers were destroyed; another one was seized.

Russian invaders continue to detain and abduct residents, pro-Ukrainian activists, and civil servants.

On March 22nd, during the movement of a humanitarian convoy, the russian invaders detained two employees of the State Emergency Service. Their current whereabouts are unknown. During the day, the abduction of Iosif Zalizetskyi, the father of the director of the Melitopol website, and Oleksandr Ponomaryov, a people’s deputy from the city of Berdyansk, was reported.

A humanitarian catastrophe is observed on the territory of the occupied communities. There is no electricity, water, or food. The Russian invaders terrorize the civilian population.

Zaporizhzhia

Air raid alerts were heard in the city during the day. Zaporizhzhia continues to accept IDPs from occupied settlements. 35,572 IDPs, including 9,073 children, arrived in this oblast center within eight days. Today the humanitarian convoy left Zaporizhzhia in three directions: heading for Polohy, Huliaipolie, and Berdyansk.

Zaporizhzhia will host the Free Sky art event in support of closing the skies over Ukraine. The event is organized by the Academic Symphony Orchestra musicians of the Zaporizhzhia Oblast Philharmonic. They will perform the National Anthem of Ukraine, “Palladio” by Karl Jenkins, and the March of Cossack Glory.

Enerhodar (Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant)

The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) and the city of Enerhodar are under the control of the invaders. The number of russian troops has increased in the city, including the forces used to quell peaceful gatherings and protests. The invaders removed the flags of Ukraine from almost all administrative institutions. Residents of Enerhodar toppled the flagpole with the flag of the USSR, which the occupation troops hung out the day before, and burned this flag.

The russian invaders use the information and psychological pressure and carry out propaganda work.

Due to the blockade in Enerhodar, there is a shortage of fuel. The supply of food and essential medicines is significantly complicated. For four days now, the invaders held the abducted deputy mayor, Ivan Samoidyuk, who took care of humanitarian aid and refused to collaborate with the enemy.

Berdyansk

As of 5:30 p.m., a convoy of buses that was supposed to deliver the evacuated residents of Mariupol to Zaporizhzhia was located near the village of Azovske. Russian occupation troops do not let the convoy through. Farmers have started the sowing campaign in the temporarily occupied Berdyansk district territory. They plan to sow peas and barley there.

Melitopol

In Melitopol, the military base near the city was almost destroyed. About 50 residential houses and administrative buildings were damaged.

Orikhiv

Russian troops temporarily occupy the villages of Kopani, Mirne, and Nesteryanka near Orikhiv. There is a humanitarian catastrophe in these settlements. The occupiers do not allow humanitarian aid, including food supplies, into the villages.

There is no electricity and water supply. Gas lines are damaged. The russians continue to terrorize the civilian population, destroying and occupying the homes of civilians.

Hulyaypole

The gas service is engaged in the restoration of the gas supply. It was partially restored. It is impossible to restore the electricity supply completely, as power lines have been damaged in the occupied territories. The russian military does not allow specialists to repair. Water and humanitarian aid are partially distributed throughout the community.

Kherson Oblast

Kherson Oblast is occupied. Russians kidnap volunteers, people who take part in rallies.

The Ukrainian military has once again smashed the occupiers’ equipment at the airport in Chornobayivka. In this way, the plan of russia to use the airfield in the offensive on the Mykolaiv oblast and further on Odesa is thwarted.

Skadovsk

In Skadovsk, the russian occupiers set up checkpoints everywhere and came to people’s homes. The Armed Forces of Ukraine control the situation.

The Territorial Defense Forces patrol cities and villages. The mayor stressed that the community needs humanitarian aid. People behave calmly without panic. The issue of food and medicine delivery is still being resolved. The city is not calm.

Odesa Oblast

There was the shelling of the oblast from the sea, and there are damaged houses. The air defense is constantly working, the Armed Forces of Ukraine are resisting the enemy. Preparations for the protection of the Oblast are underway. The Territorial Defense Forces are engaged in strengthening the coast and checkpoints. Local authorities speak of their readiness to resist the enemy. People are united and actively help the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Territorial Defense Forces. Volunteers deal with humanitarian issues. Everyone is preparing to defend the Oblast.

Central Oblasts

Dnipropetrovsk Oblast

The russians fired missiles at the Pavlograd-2 railway station. The railway station, rails, and railway line were destroyed. Also, 15 freight cars were broken. One person died. In the morning, near the city of Apostolovo, the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Territorial Defense Forces fought with the russians from the Kherson Oblast.

The Head of the Territorial Defense of Dnipro called on the oblast residents to hand over trucks and jeeps-pickups for defense needs.

Almost all large enterprises and almost 80% of small and medium-sized businesses operate in the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast. Entrepreneurs resume work.

All communal services of Dnipro city continue to work fully. So, the municipal enterprise “Zelenbud” began to work in the city and repair roads. Mayor Borys Filatov stated this. He also negotiates with famous people abroad and asks them to inform the world about events in Ukraine and help. An American businessman from Dnipro, Max Polyakov, donated $ 1 million in humanitarian aid to the people of Ukraine.

There were 80 fires in the Oblast yesterday, which distracted the emergency services and caused panic among the population. Some of the fires were due to burning dry grass.

Kirovohrad Oblast

Kropyvnytskyi

The situation in the city is under control. The sirens did not die down during the day. There was a threat of missile strikes. The Armed Forces of Ukraine are defending the Oblast and guarding military facilities. The Territorial Defense is on duty at checkpoints, and the patrol police patrol the city. More than 10 000 refugees were sheltered in one day. 3 000 of them are children. The State Food and Consumer Service is monitoring rising prices for socially significant goods.

Poltava Oblast

The city authorities appealed to entrepreneurs to resume manufacturing, provide services and pay taxes. Poltava Oblast became a rear, support for defenders, and a shelter for IDPs. Oblast vocational education institutions have united. Sewists make camouflage nets, load-bearing vests, balaclavas, and national flags. Electricians and locksmiths make anti-tank hedgehogs, plates, bulletproof vests, and field stoves. Chefs prepare food for soldiers and IDPs, and teachers and artisans help unload the humanitarian aid. IDPs are provided with shelter. The distribution center of baby food and formulas, opened in the Center for Culture and Leisure premises, was replenished with 180 boxes of baby formulas. Communal establishments and contractors have launched Clean Week in Poltava. All roadways will be cleaned.

Vinnytsia Oblast

Zhremynka

There are no hostilities on the territory of the community. Air-raid sirens can be heard more frequently, and people are more confused. Local authorities report the amount of aid provided to Kharkiv and Kyiv. In general, the situation is stable. Volunteer corps, critical infrastructure, business establishments function.

Western Oblasts

Lviv Oblast

Drohobych

The situation in the city and Lviv Oblast is calm. Units of the 103rd Separate Territorial Defence Force Brigade in Lviv Oblast master a training course in various combat disciplines. Drohobych continues to host IDPs and improve the city’s infrastructure. Another 6 600 IDPs were hosted and settled in Lviv Oblast. Since the beginning of the full-scale russian military invasion into Ukraine, 223 000 people have found shelter in Lviv Oblast.

23 000 Ukrainians crossed the checkpoints in Lviv Oblast during one day. The flow of people has decreased. As of February 24th, 1 179 000 people have gone abroad through checkpoints. More than 15 000 Ukrainians have returned to Ukraine over the past 24 hours. Over the past week, more than 11 000 people from the war zone have received medical treatment in hospitals. Almost 2 700 people, including 640 children, were hospitalized.

Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast

Approximately 19,5 thousand IDPs have registered in the city. 1 500 evacuated children registered for online lessons at schools. The flow of people is slowly declining. The number of people who use the services of social canteens has decreased.

There are several medical headquarters in the city. Their priority is the Armed Forces of Ukraine. They also help civilians who are on the territories with no active hostilities.

Rivne Oblast

Rivne

The city was calm, and there were no air alarms. The Armed Forces of Ukraine patrol the border with Belarus. Territorial Defense Forces continue to patrol and duty at checkpoints. Khmelnytsky

Kamianets-Podilskyi

There were several air raids. The city authorities addressed all landowners with a proposal to completely plant land plots to provide themselves and their families with vegetables. Agrarians gathered for a meeting to plan what to sow to meet the needs of Ukrainians.

The employment service provides services for employment, vocational training, retraining and cooperates with employers throughout Ukraine. The Department of Education and Science is studying the organization of Ukrainian language courses for everyone. The Center for Children and Youth Creativity, out-of-school educational association, and sports schools continue to work with internally displaced children.

Another 870 IDPs arrived in the city yesterday. All of them were officially registered. The city has already helped more than 16 000 citizens who fled the war.

Due to the direct participation of migrant volunteers, an institution with humanitarian aid was opened. Here you can choose for yourself and your children essentials – clothes, blankets, hygiene products, and for children – baby food, toys. Most of the things on the shelves are humanitarian aid from abroad from partner cities of Kamianets-Podilskyi.

Chernivtsi Oblast (Bukovyna)

The area is calm. Bukovyna will receive new loud sirens of its production. Police officers, representatives of the Terrorist Defense Forces, and the National Guard are on duty around the clock, ensuring the legal regime of martial law. Recruitment to the Armed Forces of Ukraine continues.

Bukovyna says goodbye to the heroes who died in the war. 14 companies specializing in innovative technologies, production of electric motors, reagents, and food have already moved to Chernivtsi. The regional authorities ask to return to their jobs and involve IDPs living in the Oblast. Chernivtsi Oblast has already sheltered more than 60 000 people, including more than 19 000 children.

Chernivtsi received 5,6 tons of humanitarian aid from Macedonia. At the same time, aid was sent to the military in Kharkiv Oblast.

Zakarpattia Oblast

The situation in the region is calm. Sirens did not sound. A center for displaced migrants is being set up on the territory of the regional humanitarian hub. This will provide housing for about one and a half thousand people. All rooms and special tents on the territory of “Eurocar” will be air-conditioned, lighting, and equipped with beds, partitions, showers, and toilets.
